View Full Version : Board overload?

Does anyone else feel that, perhaps, we're getting too many boards around here at Toonzone?

On one hand, yes I understand that this might be much easier for Mods. I once asked a Mod awhile back, when Anitainment & Cafe were first created, & he simply told me "It's just getting to difficult to keep track of everything". So, from a Mod's POV, I understand that dividing up the boards like this gives them a much easier time keeping track of everything, as well as making sure the riff-raffs are under control.
And, I also need to say, a 'General Anime' board might be necessary, as the Adult Swim & Toonami boards are 'plagued' by off-topic posts about random anime. Sure, they may start out as "would this be a good anime for....", but eventually they all degenerate into something about any random anime. I know the Mods at AS & Toonami have all seen this, and I know that at least the AS board is cracking down on it. And, I also understand that a lot of people around here, who enjoy discussing anime, simply don't feel the WBC-General Discussion board is the right place for Anime discussion, or it's just not an appropriet place. Either way, I will say, it seems a General Anime Board might be necessary in the future, but I'll leave that up to TZ.

BUT, on the other hand, we have had several board additions, and board 'splits' in the past several months. Perhaps this has caused a slow-down in discussion in various places? Honestly, I will say that It was easier to just have that "Misc.-General Discussion" board, where I could talk about movies, cartoons, anime, politics, and random stuff, all in one place. BUT, of course that's a LOT of stuff for Mods to manage. That is something we all NEED to understand. So, I understand why they split everything up. But, sometimes it seems things are expanding so much, that other things are being left behind? We had the Anitainment board, but eventually, Movie/music stuff grew so much, it needed it's own board. So, animation got added with WBC, and I understand many people feel less comfortable, because the general animation discussion is draining out the classic Warner Bros discussion, which that board was created for in the first place. And video game discussion has suddenly burst out so much in the Cafe, that it seems it needs its own board soon. Also, as I mentioned before, Anime topics are getting various boards way off topic. I do understand the importance of these extra boards, and the possible addition of various others, but, does anyone else feel there might be to many?

Are we having a Board Overload?

If it's any consolation, I'd venture to say that the Vid Game board addition was the last board expansion we're gonna do for a while. The Vid Game board was actually in plans for a while, even before the explosion in discussion in the Cafe. I think TZ is also adding a vid game section to it's main site, although I don't know when that's supposed to happen.

I think Anime fits on the WBC - General Animation board, just because it's foreign doesn't mean it's special. It's still animation. But I understand the initial weirdness of it, especially if you accustomed to the WBC's original MO.

Yes, the board splits have made things more manageable for mods, but also look at it this way. It's a specialization of interests. It allows you to go to a board that fits your interests better, which means you'll spend less time skipping over posts that don't interest you. Of course, you don't want to departmentalize too much, but I think we've found a pretty good medium right now.

I think with all these boards...TOONZONE is no longer a valid name.

toonzone is ment for toons, but these threads are a nice way to get to know people that you talk about toons with. i think it's nice, and the name is still valid.

Actually I like all the boards. I wouldn't mind if there was more either.

Maybe if Toon Zone was nothing but a message board you'd be right, but the site content of TZ is still and will always be strictly cartoon related.

I don't think there are too many boards. While there are a lot, that makes topics easier to find.

I really like having a variety of boards - that way I don't have to sift through a lot of stuff that I'm not interested in.

Well, the boards have certainly increased in numbers, which means a lot more for me to check out, but I'm getting used to it. I guess it does make it easier for the mods, which is a good thing. :)
