In a perfect world, the great cartoon studios would have left the original titles of the classic cartoons alone, but this isn't a perfect world. So, does anyone have a favorite reissue title?

This poll only counts theatrical reissues, BTW, not titles changed for TV. I'll gladly add more options if anyone knows of other big studios who reissued cartoons by removing title art.

Also, if you need examples of some of the options, visit Jerry becks original titles page: http://www.cartoonresearch.com/titles.html

Based upon the choices given in this poll, it would easily be the "Blue Ribbon Merrie Melodies" title card hands down. However, for some strange reason even today, I still get a "wake-up" charge any time I see that reissue title card, plus also for the Associated Artists Productions A.A.P. logo card as well (but that's a basically for television addition then however).

Were the Disney titles ever changed for reissue? I've heard they replaced RKO and Columbia titles with Buena Vista titles, but I can't remember hearing if it was for theatrical re-release.

I voted for the MGM title reissues... at least they seem reasonable.

The Disney titles were reissued for television and video release. The old VHS tape of The Three Caballaros has the Buena Vista titles, while the new DVD and VHS have the original RKO opening! They also redid "Mickey's Opera" to have an RKO opening (from "Symphony Hour") instead of the United Artists one!

While I'm talking about Disney titles, were there TWO versions of the title card for "Symphony Hour" (1942/Mickey Mouse)? The one version I taped of I&PC had a title with just a yellow background, and a bunch of music notes, and the words "Symphony Hour". However, the VHS release Mickey has a version with the sillouette of Mickey constructing his orchestra, with the exact writing of "Symphony Hour" on the other version. The screen would than dissolve to a regular Mickey constructing. But both versions have the original RKO opening.

Could somebody help me?

I think you just answered your question! Even though it's been ages since I've seen the original title card, Disney had to have redone theirs not too long ago.

Who voted for the "The End" WB reissue title? It doesn't even fit with the music!

According to the book Cartoon Movie Posters, the United Artists Silly Symphonies were re-released to theatres by RKO in the early 1950's.

OK, OK!! It was me. I voted for the THE END closing because I thought it was simply different. It's odd to see a WB Cartoon close with that, but I thought it was simply peculiar.

Some cartoons don't match...such as Daffy Doodles and The Bashful Buzzard. The end music in those films start too quickly.

I saw A Feud There Was (1938) which supposedly had the THE END at the end of the film...which of course was redone for no obvious reason.

I just had to vote for the MGM reissue titles! You can't tell that these were re-issue prints unless you visit Jerry Beck's website! MGM really put some effort into making these title cards.

I was going to vote for "The End" title card on some of the Merrie Melodie re-issues, but I didn't want to get verbally trounced by the rest of you guys!:D

I noticed that neither of those got any votes, yet. I have never even seen them. How many of you have actually seen those titles? (probably most of you:()

I had said that if you needed to see an example, go to Beck's page, here is his Columbia title's page: http://www.cartoonresearch.com/columbia.html, with some examples. Granted, you can't hear the music (I wonder what Columbia's theme music was?), but you can see what they look like.

The end music probably starts quickly in those cartoons because there was probably a fast cut from the end titles into the Porky-drum endings of their original Looney Tunes releases.
