I wonder if anybody can help me out with this little question....
What I'm looking for are very rare UPA Cartoons on video, I'm hoping someone has these classics on video.
Here are some of the UPA characters I'm searching for:

GERALD McBOING BOING

THE FOX AND CROW (UPA verison)

JOLLY FROLICS

MR.MAGOO

And the very first UPA cartoon, HELL BENT FOR ELECTION
E-mail if me you have such UPA classics on video, and hopfully we can make out a trade.

BTW:Also looking for certain Terrytoons characters, on video too :DEPUTY DAWG, POSSIBLE POSSUM, DINKY DUCK, GANDY GOOSE/SOURPUSS, HASHIMOTO, SAD CAT, JAMES SHOUND,
and MIGHTY MOUSE...

You can get Hell Bent For Election from the Cartoon Crazys Go To War tape which shouldn't be too hard to get if you check a few sites or ebay. I'd recommend owning it, anway, because some of the prints on it are rather impressive after you've been handling other PD videos for awhile

I recently discovered that "Robin Hoodlum," a Fox and Crow cartoon, can be found on the video, "Columbia Cartoon Classics Vol. 9: UPA Classics," but I think it's out of print, I haven't started looking for it yet. I hear it's the only Fox and Crow cartoon released on video, ever. Personally, I'd like to see "The Magic Fluke" and see how well it matches up to Tex Avery's remake, "Magical Meistro" (but I'll bet Avery's cartoon is better, I can't see how any cartoon can top that one).

Also, if you really do want "Hell Bent For Election," I also recommend the Cartoon Crazys video/DVD, unless you are the sort who cannot stand the modified soundtracks Cartoon Crazys releases are infamous for. It's a great little Pro-Roosevelt cartoon with a catchy theme.

I thought "Hell Bent for Election" was a Chuck Jones cartoon. Did he direct at UPA (Unprotected Punk Association) at the time of its release?

Jones directed it, and several WB employees (alongf with employees from other studios) worked on it at night. Jones was still working at WB by day, though.

They didn't use Schlesinger's facilities, because Schlesinger thought the cartoon was too political (unlike other war films, such as "Point Rationing Of Foods" which he allowed the use of his cartoon studio at night and on weekends and such). Jones supposedly worked on it for free.

There is a Gerald McBoing Boing video currently in-print. I've seen copies at K-Mart stores and it is available from Amazon.com for $11.99. It's called Sounds Like Fun With Gerald McBoing Boing and includes 4 cartoons.

Whole Toon has Magoo and Gerald McBoing Boing tapes, if you have a catalog look under C for Columbia, also Mr. Magoo Collector's Edition under M (for Mister, not Magoo). The tape Cartoongate has Hell Bent For Election. If you don't have a catalog go to www.facets.org and just search for Magoo, Gerald McBoing Boing and Cartoongate.
