I downloaded it from that website that is dedicated to the history of the cartoon.(sorry can't remember what the website is called).
I thought it was very good, the music was great and the characters were very funny plus I didn't see anything that could be seen as "Racist" because black people didn't have any problem with playing the characters.
I think its a great shame that this cartoon isn't getting seen anymore because if you what the disney film of snow white then watch this cartoon its such a funny contrast.
Long live "Coal black"-a true master piece.

"... dedicated to the history of the cartoon"?? I hope this wasn't the *lousy* 1 MB version from the "Toon Tracker" web site.
Anyway, since Goopy Geer's I-drive has gone, I recommend anyone interested in "Coal Black" have a look at this link (use "Save as" option): http://www.rblords.com/coalblack.mpg . Caution: It's about 80 MB in size (took me eight hours to download) but it's worth it. Great stuff!

Goopy Geer's website no longer has 10-11megabyte versions of Censored 11 and Wartime cartoons. You can only get smaller versions, if any.
On a seperate note, I once downloaded a 2megabyte cartoon. It was painful to watch the quality was so bad!

The Rblords link changed. It's now http://rblords.com/download/CoalBlack.mpg
[QUOTE]I didn't see anything that could be seen as "Racist" because black people didn't have any problem with playing the characters.QUOTE]
Aside from the stereotypes (gold-capped dice front teeth), ethnic caricatures (jet black skin, drooping "lazy" posture, and grotesque exaggerated lips), and black dialect used for comic purposes, I agree that there's nothing racist about this cartoon. Just because black performers took part in it does not mean it does not contain hurtful, racist images. We're talking about a time when black performers often had to work in blackface, and Duke Ellington could have an all-black band but not one black audience member in the audience. I work in an elementary school with a majority black population, and I would not want any kids I know to watch this without a heaping shovelful of context and lengthy discussion before and afterwards.
It is a great cartoon for a variety of self-evident reasons, but I don't want to see this as a part of the "Kids WB" anytime soon.

Good thing I got Goopy Geer's version! AOL would disconnect me before that download finished:o

I love "Coal Black", one of the best WB cartoons ever produced! The animation is great, the music is awesome, plus it is extremely funny! Why people are denied seeing this is beyond belief! I only wish that AOL/Time-Warner will someday release a pristine print of this film for serious animation collectors!
By the way, this is my 100th post!!:D

Just get a resumable downloads manager like GoZilla or NetVampire. You can download them at sites like downloads.com. So when AwOL disconnects you, just reconnect and resume the download!
