If you want more Zim-like material, I suggest Jhonen Vasquez's comic book "Squee". Dib and Zim are definately reworked versions of the comic's two main characters, Todd (Squee) and Pepito the Antichrist. By the way, the alien that abduct Zim in "Abducted" are the aliens the that contantly try to abdsuct Squee in the comic.

So let me get this straight. The one show I like on Nickelodeon is getting cancelled. I'm glad that Cartoon Network is beating them.

They aren't. But CN is catching up.

Uhm, it got cancelled before the second season episodes even started airing. Nick seriously cheezed off Vasquez when they went back and edited the episodes featuring the Swollen Eyeball Network and the FBI Warnings on tapes after part of his contract said there would be no censoring done to the series whatsoever. The agreement was that Nick would go ahead and air all of the episodes that had been finished, but there would be no new ones made, and the series was canned.

Good ol' Nick. Canceling the few shows on the Network with any real promise in favor of some more rugrats clones. Brilliant plan Nick.

Nick USA doesnt know how to treat Zim IMO.. Nick UK & AUS both aired FBI Warning & Door to Door way before Nick USA aired them (plus many more Nicktoons have had new episodes aired on Nick UK way before Nick USA aired them, including Spongebob & Rocket Power) ;)

From what I heard, it was WAY too expensve per episode and when the rating came in, the Nick people thought it was too low. They should have given it time.

It was cancelled for a number of reasons. It cost a ton, with all the special effects and cel-shading used. It was getting low ratings. After 9/11, they were getting a lot of heat from sensitive viewers. In the end, ZIM was just too much hassle. Yeah, NICK knew the show would make a lot of money in time, but at the time, it was just a white elephant for them, and sweeps month was nearing.

Of course they cancelled Zim. It's a law that all good shows are to be cancelled. Like Freakazoid!,Clerks,MissionHill,FamilyGuy, the Oblongs,Downtown, and Undergrads, just to name a few.....It's the way of the universe.

Hmm, weird, I was glad all of those were canceled. :D

Zim was getting low ratings so it was canned.

But see that is working for them. That is what the kiddies like. Television is all about the ratings. Ratings = ads = $$$ for Viacom.

It wasn't canned because of ratings. Vasquez walked when Nickelodeon messed with a clause in his contract.

Yes and Freakazoid! still airs on CN around 5:00am....but it's still cancelled. Means no more new episodes. There's a rumor TNN may buy ZiM to show in their 2003/2004 adult cartoon block thing they're going to have...but they can't make new episodes. Eez saaaaad.

Yeah, it's a sad thing. The one show that could pull Nickelodeon from the hole they dug themselves into and they cancel it. Morons! Okay, here's a question: If ZIM were to be bought by another network and new episodes were ordered, would Vasquez come back to make new ones?

Vasquez said that the treatment he got from Nick made him decide to not be involved in animation anymore(from what I heard). Nick is way to greedy to let Zim turn into another Doug though. If Zim is ever picked up by Nick again, don't expect half of the original workers there.

I think that Jhoen said that he wouldn't work with a kids network anymore. He might work with animators who arn't kids orented though. I'll look for an interwiew.

Jhonen Vasquez:
The idea of another network picking it up is unlikely. Anything's possible but I have no say in any of that as the network owns the show completely. In just such a magical world where ZIM starts up production again, it would not be with my supervision.
Steve Ressel:
. . . if Nick ever wants more episodes they will get less then 50 percent of the original crew and the show will look like CatDog. Who knows if Jhonen would return? Who knows if I would return, or [i] or anyone else....one thing is for sure- the show will not ever be the same after episode 27. Better or worse.

After Nick made the decision to cancel Zim I doubt they would go back on their word that easily, especially since the money alocated for Zim has most likely been passed onto 'Danny Fantom' or a development property.http://roomwithamoose.com/zim/vbulletin/images/smilies/tongue.gif~B+:

And it sounds like the reason those episodes got edited was because Vasquez cheezed off the MIO's (Men In Orange) parent company, Viacom. (The "Swollen Eyeball Network" sounds like a crude reference to CBS.)

Actually, that episode was edited because it's about an underground secretive group that people thought was a parody of the CIA. The episode "FBI Warning" got edited because it (obviously) poked a little fun at the FBI's expense. Even though these episodes were finished before 9/11, Nick thought it was inappropriate to joke about those organizations after that. Nevermind that a clause in Vasquez's project left him with the final decision on issues like that, they decided to cut things from them anyway.

Umm... hello? This is Nickelodeon. They have absolutely NO interest in what we want. They're here to saturate the media world with EASY MONEY. That involves making cheap cartoons and getting kids to like them. They do NOT want ZIM to be popular. Ever read "The Giver"? Nickelodeon is the world, and ZIM is the color red. We're the, umm... Giver-guy. (Haven't read it in a while...)

Who would back the Invader Zim DVD? Jhoen? That'll work.

from c21 media :) (press release from 10 Apr 2002)

Nick sci-fi animation takes a trip down to Cannes

MTV Networks International will be at MipTV next week armed with Nickelodeon's first foray into sci-fi animation - Invader Zim.

The creation of Jhonen Vasquez, the 26x30' animation Invader Zim (pictured) will get its first outing down in Cannes next week. The show's protagonist is Zim, a paranoid alien from planet Irk who believes he must conquer Earth with the help of his deranged robot sidekick, Gir.

btw, new Invader Zim episodes should start airing this Saturday morning at 7.30am on Nick UK :)

Hello, have you been reading the posts in this thread at all? Vasquez is no longer on the project. He is gone, he has walked from Nick, he has no interest in ever doing a children's show again. If ZIM is renewed, it won't be him doing it.

It looks like I joined another party way too late......... Ditto..I just started to get into this show and it gets canceled. I haven't seen many episodes, but what I have seen was beyond impressive. The animation of a cartoon is always a key factor that helps determine whether I like it or not. If I don't like the style of a cartoon and the way it's drawn...then I don't like the cartoon. It's that simple. Invader Zim went WAY beyond my standards. It's painfully obvious how much effort was put into the show. The episodes I saw were pretty damn funny as well. Awesome writing and animation...this show was one of a kind. It will be sorely missed. Invader Zim, I hardly knew ye.

Show's I like seem to always get canceled. *kills Nickelodeon*

Eh, no offense, but how is it stealing from the company if the company doesn't air the product? It's not like they're still trying to make profit on it, replacing it with The Fairly Oddparents or Spongebob every other week.

That's a pretty bad analogy...I fail to see the comparison.

I agree with Mackenzie Rainelle and spamspam2. It's not like Nick is selling the episodes on DVD/VHS...so they aren't loosing any money from it. It's not effecting their profits at all. Why should they even care?

Becasue they still get money from the commercials they air during it. And since Nick is one greedy bastard of a heartless corporation, they want to squeeze all of the money out of Zim that they can while it's still airing. Just because the series isn't being sold by the company that owns it doesn't mean that DLing the episodes is any less illegal. That's why Fucinet was closed. And it's the same reason Video Game ROM sites are being hounded by Sega/Nintendo/Sony lawyers.

I`ll probably take a lot of "heat" myself for this, but sensitivity like this actually outright angers me.

99% of people offended by something never have anything to do with that something in the first place. African Americans use the "n word" among eachother all the time, the mentally handicapped could care less about what others think of them (they seem to just enjoy life no matter what. Good people.) and I somehow doubt anyone actually involved in the wtc is watching zim and saying "OMG! Alien invasion reminds me of terrorism! *CRY!* "

It should be noted that this post was originally a long, cruel rant, but I toned it down considerably. I`m not THAT insensitive.
