Check out this story, and then give your thoughts on it here. I for one found it funny and a great examination of certain comic book heroes ( and Jedi Knights) problems.
go to slate.msn.com and click on their "Spiderman's vow of celibacy" or just go to the specific thread below:

Well, I guess the article wasn't of that great an interest after all. At least the thread shows 40 something people viewed it...I guess it wasn't worth commenting on. Whatever. I'll just discuss it among myself...
Wonderfly: Well, I liked how they pointed out that most superhero's do seem to choose a celibate lifestyle, (unless of course you marry a fellow superhero...).
Wonderfly: Ah, but the movie differed from the comic book! In the comic, Spidey got married...but now he's getting divorced. So can superhero's marry average people and live a happy life? It is a good question...
Wonderfly: Don't forget Jedi Knights! The article showed that Anakin marrying Amydala is the start of his fall towards the Dark Side. So is Lucas saying that marriage leads to evil?
Wonderfly: Hmmm...I'll have to think about that one for a while. I'll get back to you on that.

Jedi Knights aren't celibate per se.

Which is why I think the whole Anakin and "concieved by midichlorians" thing in Phantom Menace is a crock. I mean, I theorize there must be millions of illegitimate half-Jedis scattered all across the galaxy from the indiscretions of wayward Knights. It's only marriage that is forbidden. And in that vein, has anyone considered that Jango--and Boba, by extention--could be the byproduct of one of these flings? Maybe that's why Dooku kept tabs on him? Which would be ironic: a half-Jedi Jedi-killer.
Celibate Spidey? It's just as well--imagine a mother's horror to walk into the nursery one day and seeing the baby crawling on the ceiling (esp. with a full diaper)....

That may be the case, but I think the circumstances of Anakin's birth are part of the whole "Chosen One" bit. Shmi doesn't seem wild, probably didn't stay far from the shop as a slave, and who else could daddy Skywalker be? Watto? :p

Any committed relationship. And I think that's one of the Council's follies. Attachment may have brought Anakin to the dark side(won't know 'til Ep3), but it produced two children who helped him come back.

Dooku does seem upset/unnerved when Jango bites it.. I caught that 2nd/3rd time I saw Episode 2.
I'm hoping Aurra Sing's in Episode 3. She's an ex-Jedi Jedi-killing bounty hunter. She was in Episode 1, checking out the podrace.

Watto was the Gonzo/bug hybrid who owned Ani and Schmi, right? Has he been her only master, or did he buy her from someone else? For some reason I've got it in my head she may have been a prostitute around nine years ago, either for Watto or a previous owner. Ani's birth queered things with the johns, plus maybe she got a little long in the tooth, so the ugly little bugger retired her to the shop in the desert. Sounds far-fetched and FanFicky, I know, but...eh.
As for Dooku and Jango....
I don't know his age, but could he be the bounty hunter's father? Or, if not old enough, maybe they are (half-)brothers? Which coupled with the knowledge that the Count is Yoda's former pupil, would serve to only make the Lucas family tree's branches even more twisted....

I imagine he at least bought her from slave traders. Beyond that, one of the novels might have more info but you can take or leave that .

Christopher Lee's 80, which given the fact that Jedi live long and that Dooku's humanOID.... it could go either way. Jango's got a comic showing him to be an orphaned farmboy raised by a group of warriors, but like I just said- not canon. Age-wise, the father possibility works- suppose the 1/2 bro thing does as well. But that's not the possibility I've gotten fond of. :bosko:

Here's some more. Shmi wakes up pregnant, totally unaware of her encounter with a mister Solo the night before. Captain Panaka is stripped of his title after getting Padme pregnant. To avoid political scandal, little Lando is raised in a mining colony.

Actually, some of the Jedi have kids (Ki-Adi-Mundi, one of the Jedi Council in Episode One, is depicted as having two daughters in some stories).
As for superheroes, it's only really the big ones that stay "celibate" - the ones that most of the little kids read. Green Arrow's not celibate. Neither is Daredevil, Green Lantern, Savage Dragon, and a bunch of others.

Aquaman is married with a son, most/all of the Flashes are married men, and J'ohnn Jonnz was once married to a Martian woman, although preumably he's been celibate since her death.

He's in Ep 2's Council as well (man, I love the look on his face when Dooku corners him.... Still think he's just a political idealist? :p)
As for children, the stories may have been written before Episode 2's details were known... I suspect that the Jedi do have children amongst themselves, but not families. So the order is not entirely dependant on looking for new trainees throughout the galaxy all the time.

Hey now, wait a minute! Spiderman's not celibate, (at least not in comic), and that's a comic for both kids and adults. I would argue the same for Daredevil and Green Lantern. I think you may be confusing celibate with "having only one partner". The three examples you pointed out, especially Daredevil and the Dragon, they really know how to "play the field", if you catch my drift...
I'd venture to say that Batman and Supes are the ones that impose this chastity on themselves the most...though Bats breaks down from time to time...

Uh...Superman's married in the comics, and I don't think that Lois would buy the whole chastity thing, ;).
I don't think any superhero is really celibate - it's just a stupid plot device to emphasize how a superhero has to keep his secret identity a secret in the movies. They need the ending scene to show the hero crouched on a rooftop grimmly surveying the city, not in bed with a supermodel, in order to sell Happy Meals and sequel rights.

Well, that just goes to show how long it's been since I read the Superman comicbook...only thing I know of what's going on over at DC is that Lex Luthor is President for some reason.
Lots of movies end with the hero in bed with a superhero...it works for James Bond, and he keeps getting sequels. But yeah, I think Spidey didn't end up with the girl at the end of the movie because they needed to segway into the sequel. But I could see where they could have ended it on a happy note...but then again, happy endings are sometimes rare for Spidey.
