It's here again! We can't let the tradition die, so I now have a new Chilly Willy avatar. What do you all think?

Hey, Jack! I also have a Walter Lantz Cartune star for an avatar this week... Andy Panda. :)

Great Avatar, Jon! Is it from a cartoon, or from a piece of publicity art?

It's from the cartoon "Dog Tax Dodgers". Where did that picture of Chilly and the polar bear come from?

I don't know the specific cartoon (I hates Universal for keeping them off TV:mad: ) I found it at the following site: Chilly Willy's Sub Arctic World (http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/6545/) on the picture page: Picture Page (http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/6545/thumbs9.html)

Great avatars, Jack and Jon! "Guess who?" My new avatar is Woody from his very first appearance "Knock, Knock".

Hey, Jack...

In case you were wondering, the cartoon your avatar is taken from is "Polar Fright" (1966).

Hope this helps (I'm somewhat of a Walter Lantz nut).

That's Woody Woodpecker's first cartoon appearance? Man, talk about UGLY...Glad they redesigned him a little over time.I like his late 1940's look, before the 1950's and 60's when they turned him into the Road Runner.

You mean that in the 1950s Woody Woodpecker became a Roadrunner ripoff? I never knew anyone ripped off the Roadrunner except those rhyming guys much later

Thanks Matt for telling me the cartoon title, it's a shame that so many classic cartoons are kept off of TV.

I like Matthew's Sylvester avatar, from a comic book, eh? Also, I think the ugly early Woody used by Thad is kind of cute, I don't know why I like the way he looks, but I do. I'll agree that the late 40s design is the best, the later design just looks too stiff.

The reason I joined in on this thread is because it was straying off the topic of avatars.

I'll say this again: If it's a classic cartoon that is not WB, MGM, or POPEYE, it is fine that it is not on TV. Having to think about those three is enough.

Woody looks much better in the actual cartune, this image came from a limited edition that used REALLY cheap designs of the early Woody and Andy Panda. The cartune is very funny, especially lines like Woody's "BETRAYED!! BETRAYED!!!!" (after the decoy female bird explodes) and "Last one down is a rotten egg!" (when Woody and Andy's dad are falling from the sky)

Seven, what are you talking about? You're saying classics like Woody, the Fox and Crow, and Herman & Katnip should stay off TV, because they're not by those three studios? That's crazy talk! I'd certainly rather see one of these, rather than the same Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry cartoon over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!

If CN DID buy the TOTALLY TOONED IN series, they could show the cartoons on the ACME HOUR. If Disney would be kind and give them rights to their cartoons, we'd have one great network. I'd love to see this kind of an ACME HOUR on Saturday nights, and posted on the WAT? board(though it could NEVER happen):

"Bowery Bugs"
"Jerry's Cousin" (MGM, Tom & Jerry)
"Woody Dines Out" (Lantz, Woody Woodpecker)
"Goonland" (Fleischer, Popeye)
"Grape Nutty" (Columbia, Fox and Crow)
"Meatless Flyday"
"Flying South" (Terrytoons, Heckle & Jeckle)
"Mickey's Birthday Party" (Disney, Mickey Mouse)
"King-Size Canary" (MGM, Tex Avery)
"I'm Cold" (Lantz, Chilly Willy)
"Zipping Along"
"Milk and Money"

What do you guys think?

So if they were on TV you would to worry about them? Like Thad said, that is crazy talk. If you don't care for Lantz Cartunes, then don't concern yourself with taping and documenting them, keep your focus on WB, MGM, and Popeye.

That's too confusing. I wouldn't mind having seperate series that I would choose not to watch, but having 7 studios in the same show would get extremely confusing.

Having an Acme Hour for those four other series seperate from an Acme Hour with the three "normal" series might be a fine idea.

--"The Legend of Rockabye Point" somewhere, Thad, and I'm sold.
I also like the old-school Woody the best. He looks more like a real woodpecker, and he could rival the old-school Daffy in the whacky department.

My avatar continues with the classic rock album theme I've been going with for the past two weeks. I'll let someone else reveal what albums or songs my avatar, title, and signature come from.

That would be the cover of Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin, and the signature would be lyrics from Going to California from Led Zeppelin IV.

I'm sorry, but I can't help but to copy your avatar idea. :)

My new avatar is one of Daffy from "Daffy Duck's Quackbusters."

Thank you!

Was beginnig to doubt - yes, it is the Nazi flagship Hindenburg, burning so nicely because it was filled with hydrogen, not helium (helium was avail. in quantities only from the US, and was embargoed as war material)

and (I really hope this is news to no one) the Hindenberg was a zeppelin...
