View Full Version : Poll: What cartoons would you want to see in a theater?
If you could see classic cartoons on the big screen, what ones would you want to see? They can be from any studio. Giving a reason for your pick/s is recommended.

A Wild Hare- Why? It's Bugs Bunny's foist cartoon! And I think it should be shown theatrically every year on July 27th. And, in it's original titles/credits version preferably.
Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers- One of the Bugs cartoons never released in theaters. It's so funny this one deserves to be on the big screen.
I can't think of any others. BUT If and when, Little Go Beep does by some chance come to theaters, you bet I'll be there to see it.

Personaly, I'd like to see the Cinemascope MGM Tom & Jerry 'toons (Droopy also). Plus I think I'd get a kick out of seeing the widescreen Terrytoons that were made during that period.

I would like to see Lickety Splat in a theater. How would those missiles look on the big screen?
I would also like to see either Crockett-Doodle-Do or Run Run Sweet Roadrunner. The Indian rain dance would be very funny if I saw it the way it was meant to be seen.

All my favorite cartoons by my favorite directors! For the big screen and an audience laughing at the bedt moments.
Kitty Cornered, Book Revue, Corny Concerto, and many more by Clampett
Jones: Any mid-40s through early 50s, especially Duck Amuck.
Tex: Any '40s, especially wartime ones. Quintescential Avery!
They actually did this a few years ago, and I got to see "Beanstalk Bunny" up on the big screen in the early 90s (I could be mistaken, but I think it was in front of "A Few Good Men"). Everyone clapped when it started playing and when it was over.
I wondered why the re-releases were never continued at the time. Maybe cartoons are seen as too "kiddy" now. I also see possible incongruity issues between cartoons made fifty years ago and more modern movies. What kind of cartoon would you put in front of "Goodfellas" or "Scarface?"
That was the only one I saw (didn't go to the movies much at the time). Does anyone else remember any others?
And, yes, a thirty foot Elmer giant was something to see.

"Racketeer Rabbit" would be a good choice...
I think a large package of post 1948 Bugs Bunny cartoons were reissued to theaters in honor of Bugs' 50th birthday.

How come this guy "Matt" has an avatar with only 4 posts? Excuse me if I'm being too nosey, but this seems weird.

Yep "Racketeer Rabbit" or even "Thugs With Dirty Mugs" would fit nicely before "Goodfellas" or the like.
As discussed once on the old board, an entire package (I believe 1 1/2 plus hours long) was released to honor Bugsy's 50th boithday. Twas a great selection of toons, and in pristine shape.
The theatrical feature "Bugs Bunny Superstar" contained both "THE Wild Hare" and "Corny Concerto". And the superb "Old Gray Hare" All are unbelievable on the big screen!
Believe it or not, in the early 1980's Jerry Beck oversaw the compilation and theatrical release by United Artists of a feature-package of cartoons called (*I'm not kidding) "Uncensored Cartoons". This contained THE great forbidden "racial" toons. Called United Artists back then to see if they were going to release it on tape... And they got VERY nervous on the phone and finally said NO they definitely weren't going to do that...
For my own choice of things I'd crave seeing big-screen wise... That would be "Horton Hatches The Egg" and "Bugs Bunny Nips The Nips".

I agree, any of Friz Freleng's shorts with Rocky and Mugsy would do...or maybe the one with Peter Lorre and Edward G. Robinson as gangsters. ("It's coitans fer ya...coytains!")
I'd like to see one of Jones' more recent pieces, like "Pullet Surprise" or "Chariots of Fur"--theatrically or on TV. Imagine Tex Avery's "King-Size Canary" on the silver screen, though, with all those giant animals running about....

How about "Magical Maestro"? Who wouldn't love to see the hair-in-the-projector gag on the big screen!? :)

I saw that as part of a series of Avery cartoons in New York back in the late 1970s, before the MGM cartoons were hevily into syndication. The hair gag got a big laugh, but it was overshadowed by all the transformation gags Tex did on Spike.
Of all the cartoons I've seen theatrically, none have ever sustained the consistant high level of laughter that "Magical Maestro" did that night.

The cartoon would be severely edited to remove any stereotypes, but I'm sure you knew that already.
