Superherohype.com just reported that Sam Raimi is interested in doing only one sequel. The 3rd movie will most likely not be directed by him.
Personally, I'm very disspointed with this. I don't want Spiderman's movie franchise to follow the same fate as Batman & Robin. I really REALLY hope Sony puts some careful thoughts on choosing a new director. :(

I'd like to see this movie be a trilogy - but only if Riami directs all three parts. But we know Sony is gonna keep greenlighting sequel after sequel which will eventually go down the path much known to Batman fans. At least we'll get two good movies for sure.

I'd love to see Raimi continue directing Spiderman film after Spiderman film, but if he want's to move on and explore other possibilities I'd respect that. No actor, or director, or writer really ever wants to be typecast and thus held back.
Besides there are a good two or three years before they even start work on Spiderman 3. So he's got at least that long to change his mind. :D

Sure they're going to want to milk the franchise for all it's worth, but as long as Stan Lee's still on-board I'll have faith that the movies won't head in the same awful realm as "Batman & Robin". But when Tobby wants out then they should stop. For better or worse he IS Spiderman now. I don't want to see another actor in that costume.

I agree he should do a third movie like Bryan Singer is doing with X-Men, this way he can say goodbye to the characters his way. Do what he wants with the vision he created, and pass it on later. Most directors don't want to be tied down to sequels because it feels repetetive. But, if they love it, they would do it again and again.

Considering that it will probably take about 7 years to go from working on Spiderman 1 to finishing Spiderman 3... I can see why he'd want to move on to other things in life.

I can see why this might bother people, but I don't really care- I mean, it's not like he's such a brilliant director- I think the franchise can do better. By the way, with a $114 dollar openin weekend gross, I'd expect a Spider-Man X within twenty years.

I think the reason why their was so much hype about this film Spider-Man was because Raimi was very qualified to make this movie. Unfortunately in my opinion he let the hype get to him, trying to please critics and audiences at once, while he made a good movie, it wasn't the best he could do.
When I watch films like Army of Darkness and Quick and the Dead I see what his Spider-Man character could be. A quick-talking kid with a punch and a film with a lot of speedy action like the end of Evil Dead. Add the already successful Darkman with Superhero origin of a character made for film, he was very well qualified, which is why we feel he needs to make a trilogy to complete this franchise. But hey, two films is fine by me, but please let Cameron get on board for Spidey 3. If he does with it, what he did for sequels such as Aliens and Terminator, we can't lose.
