View Full Version : Hype: Gotham Girls in Previews!

Hey folks,
Just a little heads up to remind you that the first issue of Gotham Girls is in this month's Previews catalog (along with a feature article with a bit more info than the solicitation). Here's what DC had to say:
Just a quick heads up to mention a couple projects of mine that are in the latest issue of Previews.
The first, from DC, is the first issue of my Gotham Girls mini-series, inspired by the webtoons at gothamgirls.com. As DC describes it:
Gotham Girls #1
Written by Paul Storrie;
Art by Jennifer Graves and J. Bone;
Cover by Shane Glines
In stores August 14th. The women of the hit WB Online webtoon burst into the animated DC Universe in an action-packed mini-series!
Unable to resist a golden opportunity to fun her beloved lion preserve, Catwoman heists a vial of a mysterious formula for a shady company -- only to discover she's actually working for Poison Ivy and mallet-weilding sidekick Harley Quinn. That sets off an every-villain-for-herself chase across Gotham's rooftops -- and attracts the attention of both Batgirl and officer Renee Montoya, who reluctantly team up to join in the fray!
FC, 32 pg. (1 of 5) $2.25
Oh, and for those of you who are interested in following my other work as well, I've got a six page story in the Captain America: Red, White and Blue anthology that's also in Previews now. I had the great good fortune to have my tale illustrated by the exceedingly talented David Lloyd (of V for Vendetta fame). It's a hardcover with a slew of topflight creators, including: Alex Ross, Paul Dini, David Lloyd, Darko Macan, Bruce Timm, Bruce Jones, Paul Pope, Mike Deodato, Jr., Evan Dorkin, Brian Stelfreeze, Peter Kuper, Mark Waid, Frank Quietly and more! Plus: classic reprints by Jack Kirby, Jim Steranko and Frank Miller!
As you may have guessed, I'm "and more!"

I was hoping Previews would have a sample of interior art to tide me over 'til August.
Oh well.

You can post it at my Yahoo-Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BatmanDarkTomorrow/?yguid=86043615) .
It is a comic-videogame site,but I make a exception(because I want to see this picture :D ).
If you want so,you can open a new album there :)

Thanks, but I think I've got it licked. Here's the page:

Please note: We're aware that the Batgirl costume shown is from BTAS and not TNBA / GG. Long (and unimportant) story on how it happened. Don't worry, it's been corrected for the book itself.

Wow..just..wow. I tried sharpening the pic a bit (to make the text a bit clearer)--but, it didn't wanna cooperate..I can read it anyway.
But, back on topic--holy crap. I know after this series is over, we'll all be saying "Thank you, may I have another?" :bosko:

Thanks for posting that page, Paul! (talk about an aliteration!)
(Warning...art-critiquing ahead!)
I'm still unsure about the art....while the shot of Batgirl in the air is nice, the other panels...seem to bend the figures a tad to much for my tastes. This much referred to "Timm-style" was a blend of curves and angles in the right places. While Miss Graves has the curves down pat (nice hair, by the way), the angles aren't there, leaving the characters looking slightly cartoony. The "button nose" could be sharper, for one thing, but I'm not complaining. This could have been pencilled by Staton or Rousseau! (gasp!)
I really hope you don't mind my comments. Always remember that my critiques do not outweigh my appreciation of this series! Gotham Girls is a treat I will always thank you guys for, Paul - don't forget that!
P.S. Actually, Batgirl's outfit in the above pic is a mix of the two: The gloves and boots are TNBA (yellow) while the suit and cape are B:TAS (grey and blue) ;) Do I know my stuff or what?
P.P.S. Just a suggestion/question: Since the sky in TNBA is often a sort of hellish-red shade, will it be that way in the series...?

Keep in mind, although I may sing the praises of the art, I am but your humble scribe.

Hey, now! I'm really lovin' Jenn's work on this but I'll go on record as saying I would work with Craig Rousseau again, animated project or not, in a New York minute! I think Craig's stuff is top notch. Never had the pleasure of working with Joe, but you don't manage to create an enduring career like his without having something going for ya.
As to whether the angles you seek will appear -- guess you'll just have to check out the rest of the book!
I really hope you don't mind my comments. Always remember that my critiques do not outweigh my appreciation of this series! Gotham Girls is a treat I will always thank you guys for, Paul - don't forget that!
Nah, I don't mind commentary. In fact, I appreciate it. Means that you care about this stuff. Besides, I always get a chance to rebut.
Also, when all is said an done, what we say here doesn't matter as much as what appears on the page and how it is received by the general audience. We'll begin to know, in August, what the final verdict will be!
P.S. Actually, Batgirl's outfit in the above pic is a mix of the two: The gloves and boots are TNBA (yellow) while the suit and cape are B:TAS (grey and blue) ;) Do I know my stuff or what?
You do! (We're aware of that too, but I just didn't want to get into a whole long thing in my previous message. )
P.P.S. Just a suggestion/question: Since the sky in TNBA is often a sort of hellish-red shade, will it be that way in the series...?
Can't really say. Those sorts of decisions are made by the ever-talented Color Goddess Trish and She Who Must Be Obeyed Joan!

I don't really mind color differences in her costumes. My idea is that she has much more then one costume anyway.

WOW WOW WOW!
My 2 favorite girls on the first preview page, and my favorite on the cover! What more could you ask for?
Hmm, The style is nice and is a VERY VERY NICE change from Levin's Catwoman and Batgirl. Like Like Like. Also would prefer more angles, but not a big deal. would also prefer the red sky, but not a big deal.
I actually like that Batgirl costume better that old or new school costumes! o well, it'll look great no mater what they do to it!
one question: why does the baggest gal in Gotham look scared of Babs? I get that she stole something and has to get away, but c'mon baby, give Batty that beat-down!!!!!!!
Hopefully they'll each hold their own in whatever knock-down drag-out fight they have with eachother or others!

Y'know, I haven't seen any colored pages with Ivy in 'em. I'm guessing she'll look as she does in the webtoon in terms of color scheme. After all, it's her altered body chemistry that makes her look that way!

Y'know, I managed to contradict myself there, didn't I?
In the show, her white complexion is due to her altered body chemistry. In the webtoons (and cover), she's got regular skin tones.
I'll fall back on the first thing I said, which is that she'll probably look the way she does in the webisodes.
