View Full Version : A conclusion for Batman

Superman got an awesome conclusion with "Legacy", so it really bugs me that the Batman story was never concluded. In my opinion, if they don't intend to start making new episodes, a second Batman Beyond movie should be made to wrap up the series. Preferably, a movie about where Dick Grayson has been all these years. What are your opinions? :)

I would love to see a real conclusion to B:TAS, but it shouldn't be in the form of another Batman Beyond movie. I would love to see a movie of TNBA with Bane or possibly Two Face to end Batman. Not the Joker because he was in ROTJ, and I concider ROTJ to be an ending to Batman Beyond, so no more BB stuff until we get some more TNBA.

I love writing wrap-up stories that give all involved characters one last shot at animated glory before the entire idea is shelved for good. I think that if they ever do write a final BTAS episode/movie, it has to involve either Two-Face or Catwoman as the major villain - Batman has closer ties to them than any other rogues. (I'd include Ra's Al Ghul, too, but a final story with him involved would probably be too predictable. I would include the Joker as well, but we've already seen his final story.)
The only problem with this is that I don't want Batman's legacy to end! When the writers commit to such a project, they have to realize that once they do this, they can never go back - otherwise, the "final story" wouldn't be nearly as poignant.

Being a huge Batman fan for years before BTAS, I've always thought about what a conclusion to the whole mess.
I wanted to write a story about Batman successfully ridding the city of super-criminals and found his Batman self slowly taking over his Bruce Wayne persona where he starts going a little overboard. He starts taking out criminals with a faster pace and gets, I guess bored with it.
It becomes all too easy, and then he finally goes overboard and accidentally hospitalizes a burglar breaking into Wayne Manor, who turns out to be Selina Kyle. More and more people start to take on personas of the Joker, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, and even Batman, of course this leads Bruce as Batman to Arkham. Where he eventually learns all of them are there and clueless as to what's happening outside. It turns out, the Mad Hatter and Scarecrow teamed-up to create some kind of nanite contagion that gave them the personalities of the villians they feared. Batman then sets Mad Hatter and Scarecrow free to stop the madness, and they do so, unbeknowst to Bats they set the rogues gallery of Gotham free leaving only robots devised by Hatter of themselves imprisoned.
I know, I know, but it was just an idea.

I think I just got a headache!!LOL!
Actually, I gotta agree with TimTwoFace on this one...Catwoman and Two-Face are the way to go....
The film could revolve around Catwoman starting to reconcile with Batman, as Selina shows interest in Bruce...finally seeking a little stability...as well as the answer to the mystery of Batman's true identity...Tim's suppressed rage towards Two-Face however, begins to surface...while Barbara starts to feel torn between her feelings for Dick and her attraction towards Bruce...
Ultimately, the film could give us some closure as far as Harvey Dent/Two-Face is concerned...as well as letting us see Dick go off to Bludhaven or whereever he vanishes to...as well as some great Catwoman action! Ok, that may be too much to deal with in one movie...but I wouldn't mind if it were three hours long!
:D ;) :p :) :D ;) :p :)

I agree it would be nice to have wrapped up a few more of the individual enemies, however I felt BB wrapped up enough for me - especially ROTJ - not just for the Joker, but for the Bat Family itself. I think it was all made pretty clear how things went after B:TNA and how they were resolved. So I too see ROTJ as a strong conclusion too.
We did also get a wrap up for Mr Freeze and Bane too... I don't think that's too bad a wrap up for a cartoon... Better than what Spidey got...!

...good point. And at least with BB, we get to decide for ourselves whether or not we want to believe those things actually happened. Either way, we get a vague idea of what becomes of Robin, Batman, Batgirl, Joker, Harley, Bane, Talia, Ra's Al Ghul and Mr. Freeze. Not bad at all...and this way, the story doesn't ever have to end!

But we need more about Nightwing! He is such a complex character it's a shame he never got a movie devoted strictly to him and Batman.

I just think it stinks that Batman Beyond was suddenly ripped off the air. The story was just left hanging. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO DICK GRAYSON!!! All we got were vague comments from Barbara (when she told Terry that Dick took off after she and Bruce got together, for example). RotJ was a great story about Tim and why the origional "Bat-Team" grew apart, but now I want a Grayson-movie. :) It doesn't nessicarily have to be a conclusion for Batman Beyond, just something to ease the feeling of intense loss left by it's sudden demise.
Good Ol' Batmanuel!

Obviously, we all want to see more about what happened with Dick Grayson, but I'd also like to see more about Batman's later career. We saw a little bit of him fighting in the "Beyond" suit in the opening scene of Batman Beyond, but I'd like to see more! I think that would make a really good movie and could tie in well with all the other characters. And do we know why he has a heart condition? Is it just his age, or is there more to it? (if that's something that I should already know, forgive me. ;))
P.S. How do people feel about that robotic arm that Batman was wearing in the Batman Beyond comic, the precursor to the "Beyond" suit? (I'm sure there's a proper term for the suit, but I can't think of it right now) I think it looks cool enough, but realistically, it looks dangerous! One wrong move and he could kill someone! I know it's Batman using it, but still...

52 episodes is way too short. Batman Beyond deserves so much more! What becomes of Terry and Dana's relationship? Does she ever find out? She might have enough clues by now. They could definitely do some great episodes now that we've gotten to know the characters quite well. But now there's Justice League...

PeterParker05, very good ideas there. I only have two suggestions. One, too many episodes. Two, some of the stories are repetetive sequels of older episodes from the series, and I've never dug that in any series.
I like #1 "With a Price On His Head!" The first thing is, some of these episodes I can't picture in the TNBA series style more like the BTAS style, but maybe it would bring some nostalgia to do serious storylines with no supervillians like this one. This sounds really good.
#7 "Stuck in His Shadow" This just sounds like a TNBA episode. And I think the audience would definitely want to see more of Nightwing and introducing Blockbuster to the fold wouldn't hurt. Also, this would give Penguin a chance to redeem himself for a shotty run in TNBA.
#11 "Loopholes" Again the BTAS style returns, and hopefully this would shed some good light on Clayface instead of making him a hulking mindless monster like they did in TNBA.
#12 "Polar Opposites" Mr. Freeze, can't lose with him. Besides I always wanted to see more of Batgirl and Nightwing teaming up.
#20 "After Dark" a perfect spotlight episode for her.
#23 "Battle of the Gods" I wanted to see at least just one more episode for Maxie Zeus. He was the most psychological villian of the series a complete and utter over the top madman. This would be a great episode for him.
I mention this many becasue these really are the only ones I liked and thought money should be spent on. Also, add these with 6 episodes from STAS. But this is all wishful thinking.

The beauty of a series not having a conclusion is that is springs off so many good ideas - I love it. Great stuff!
On the Dick Grayson front, we do know that he is alive - from Barbara - so that's something.
I would have liked to have seen more resoloution to the Batman story in BB however like JMS has always liked to point out life is a never ending story and that neat resoloutions are few and far between.
While BB centers on Terry, it is however in my eyes, it is the Batman's tale, regardless of the holder of the mantle. As of such, to me ROTJ brings resoloution to the troubled period of Batman which starts at the end of BTNA and concludes in the film. A new Batman is established, and Bruce has come to terms with his place in life and that of the Batman.
How many other series give us such a resolution to a tale it takes us to a point when our hero is beyond the age to be main character. In such respects, Batman Beyond itself is the conclusion to the first three Batman series - not just ROTJ! I always see BB as the icing on the cake - the series we would not normally have - the story beyond the story.
A few muddled musings there!;)
