Allrighty folks, I'm calling on all the PS2-ers here to tell me what games to get--and please, nothing freaky. I already get the--well, everything scared out of me when playing Resident Evil, so, now then.
I currently have Virtua Fighter 4, Racer Revenge and Jedi Starfighter--what else? I'm looking to have a fun, happy platform game (Jax and Daxter is looking good..hmm), anyone got suggestions?
thanks for the oncoming feedback guys--I'm sure to buy ONE of the games you guys list..or heck, maybe 3-4 of em'.. :D
(NOTE: I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy, BUT, I might go get FFX anyway..not sure.)

Im a Gamecuber, but Ive rented PS2 before and have played around with these games at stores, and plus Im getting one anyway. So these are on my to buy list (along with Virtua Fighter 4) that you might like. :D
Games:
Grand Theft Auto 3 (must own, freedom to do pretty much anything you want in a videogame)
FFX (Youre not a fan, but it's worth checking out)
Grand Turismo 3 (racer, its now only 20 bucks or 30)
Jak and Dexter (havent played but heard its really fun)
Twisted Metal Black (havent played this, but the old ones on my ps2, its a fun series, and like GT3 its only 20-30 dollars)
Save money for:
Tomb Raider:Angel of Darkness
Superman:Shadows of Apocalypse (its the animated series, looks awesome!)
I mightve forgotten some but Im sure people who are actually PS2ers will give you better help.

If you're looking for a good platformer you might want to check out Maximo: Ghosts to Glory. I've heard some good things. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is also a good choice. Also, Ratchet & Clank (4th Quarter 2002) and Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (September 2002) have yet to come out but look promising. I would keep an eye out for them.

Let's see:
As much as I like Virtua Fighter 4, I love Tekken Tag more. I just have more fun playing it. Sure VF4 is naturally a prettier game (since it's newer), I just have more fun with TT. And you should be able to pick it up fairly cheep too. :) Or you could just wait a bit and pick up Tekken 4.
If you already don't have it for GC get Batman Vengeance NOW! ;)
If you want a good, solid, wacky adventure get Escape from Monkey Island (unless you already have it for the PC).
You may or may not like FFX. I had seven tons of fun playing it. So who knows.
Oh, and come November you will buy Suikoden 3 or I will personally track you down and beat you silly with a wet noodle. :)

Yep, GTA3 is a definite buy if you're not offended by senseless violence. :D
And as far as a good, fun platformer you can't go wrong with Maximo.
Metal Gear Solid 2 is one you definitely shouldn't pass up - probably the best game that's come out for the system so far, IMO.
Devil May Cry is a good one too - wierd villians, a fun battle system, and just a heck of a lot of fun.

well, I got Gran Turismo 3 at Meijer last night ($20), so I'm happy with that..just not sure about GTA3--the idea of just killing people seems rather...stupid to me. ah well.
I want MGS:2 really bad--probably will be my next purchase (That or Jax and Daxter..).
If you already don't have it for GC get Batman Vengeance NOW! ;)
hehe. I've had it since day one for Cube.. :)
Escape from Monkey Island, I heard about that game. I might get that too--I know the sequels coming out soon as well...
thanks for all the suggestions guys! anymore? :D

Oh yeah! Escape From Monkey Island! Good suggestion! That's a fun one too - though I find its a bit difficult to find in stores - I was looking for that thing for months before I finally ended up stumbling across it in the used section of my local Blockbuster.
just not sure about GTA3--the idea of just killing people seems rather...stupid to me. ah well.
I want MGS:2 really bad-
But Metal Gear Solid's got plenty of killin' too.....
Well, I suppose that you can play through the game without killing, but where's the fun in that? ;)
GTA3 is more than just killin' anyway - its got a lot of fun missions, some interesting story, and of course being able to just run out and steal any car you want to run around the city in is great. If you're unsure about it, at least give it a rent sometime - you may end up liking it.
I'm trying to think up some others you might like - I prefer role-playing games and the FF series is one of my favorites for the system (its why I bought the original PS way back when). But, since you're not into that sort of thing, I'm drawing a blank here.

well, I meant in the aspect of shooting a person, stealing their car--or like I've heard you can do, just kill everyone in some stadium. While in MGS2 (I assume anyway) you just run around ala like the Bond games, do stuff and shoot people..THAT, I don't mind. it's the huge massacre things just make me wanna stay away from it..lol. It's just not my cup of tea.

All I heard, as far as their graphic adventures go, is that they're working on Full Throttle II, but I haven't heard anything about a new Monkey Island game.
By the way, I only played it on the PC, but it's a great game.

It all depends on how you play them. In both games, you can run around and gruesomely kill people for no reason, or (in both games) you can follow the storyline and missions, which usualy involve killing someone.

I've beat the game and I just run around killing people to see how high I can get my death count. He wants games like Herdy Gerdy not GTA3. There's no reason to sell him on GTA3. He is not going to buy it because you want him to.
And if you are going to save money for those games like Tomb Raider all you really need this fall is Mortal Kombat 5. :)
PS I don't think Twisted Metal Black will be your thing. It's a fun game but it is a bit on the gore side when it comes to story mode.

I'm not trying to "sell him" on it, nor am I trying to get him to buy it (note that I said in a previous post that he should give it a try by renting it). My point is that he shouldn't just dismiss it if he's basing his decision on what he's heard rather than what he's tried. There's a lot more to the game than just killing, and if he's open to MGS2, he may end up enjoying GTA3 as well.

Oh, and I just thought of another game for you to check out sometime. Bird Boy. Try renting ICO sometime - great game, with a lot of atmosphere, some interesting puzzles, and beautiful graphics. Unfortunately, its rather short, and could have benefited from some additonal story, which is why I'd say rent it rather than buying it (though it did just drop in price recently).

ok, that's REALLY weird--I know I saw somewhere on LucasArts site about Monkey Island 2.. I KNOW I did. Hrm...(pardon my mistakes in this thread--I'm new to PS2...lol)
My bro got SSX Tricky for XBOX--fun game, don't think I want it again though...
So, I got on my to get list:
MGS2:Sons of Liberty
Monkey Island
Jax and Daxter
To Rent:
GTA:3 (not sure yet--I might give it a try..)
FFX
So, that should tide me over for awhile--are there any really fun Rayman-Like games for PS2? I mean Rayman-Like as big and open worlds that's just plain fun to play...
Again, I really appreciate the feedback guys! :)

Escape is the 4th game in the Monkey Island series.

You can check it out at the official site here (http://www.lucasarts.com/press/releases/59.html).
Too bad it won't be released until sometime next year.

What?! Don't look at me like that! :D
I guess I just have to dust off my leather jacket and ride my Corley while I wait for the game. :)
Oh, and I really, really hope The Gone Jackals are brought back for the soundtrack.

I know you said no scary games, but I just have to gush about Silent Hill 2 - IT'S SOOO COOL - okay, that's all I got. Herdy Gerdy is really fun, I only played the demo, but it's strangely addictive. Fatal Frame seems like it might be pretty good too, but I think it's also supposed to be kind of creepy.
