I've seen many a Talia/Bruce fic and find myself rather disgusted. (Sorry supporters) Whenever there was a Bruce/Selina epic, they kept it as clean as possible, if not right down business, whereas in elseworld's Talia and Bruce have had a few sons. This annoys me. Talia is self-centered, immature, and love struckenly blind. In my opinion Selina is the worthy adversary and romantic interest that Bruce/Batman needs in his life. Not someone who lives to please their daddy, but that's another topic. More later.

I don't side one way or the other on the Selina vs. Talia question regarding Bruce's romances. (Personally, a Batgirl/Catwoman romance would be much more to my liking.) But as far as being self-centered and immature, Selina is possibly more in possesion of these traits than Talia. Talia is a very serious woman who has had but two interests- Serving her father and loving Bruce. Catwoman is a professional thief, an extremely immature and self-centered career choice. She's a thrill-seeker, another immature and self-centered showcasing of her personality. I think Selina enjoys playing cat and mouse more with Bruce than she would ever enjoy a serious relationship. Talia's main problem is her blind and near obsessive obedience to R'as al Ghul. And though her constant back and forth betrayals to both father and lover can truly vex a reader, I still hold some sympathy for her character. She was raised from birth by a egomaniacal madman who intends to save the planet by killing 90% of the population. Talia has been brainwashed! It is a similar situation to a child of four becoming a drug addict for life because his parents forced it upon him. How screwed up would anybody be if raised, without a mother, and having R'as al Ghul as your father? Yuck!!!! But I will say I prefer Talia stories mainly for one reason- R'as al Ghul will likely be in them. And to me, he is Batman's greatest and most capable enemy, and very interesting and entertaining to read about. (I just wouldn't want to call the scum- daddy. Again, yuck!)

In defending Catwoman, I'll have to say it was pretty immature for Talia to take Bruce's mask off while he was unconscious. If he had really wanted her to know, he would have done it himself. Catwoman on the other hand has had /plenty/ of opportunities to do such and didn't.
