Do you think the MLBPA will have the guts to strike when the deadline to their labor dispute comes? Do you think the owners will have the guts to allow that in the first place or would they cave in? Would this turn you off from baseball?

All I have to say is that the MLB better not strike. The 1994 strike pissed me off to no ends. I lost interest for a while, but came back. But this time? I don't know how i'd react.

Another strike? They need more money huh? I think the WWE's new slogan says it all.

Again?? Why?? The first strike nearly ruined baseball, if it wasn't for Ripken, Sosa, and McGwire it probably would still be in the gutter. And now they want to do it again? I fear this may be a sign that the great american past time may soon be something only of the past.

I say let them. They're just a bunch of big, greedy babies. Besides, I rather see minor leauge ball at Erie, Altoona, or Washington County anyways.

I think that the wants and desires of both the players and owners have gone way to far. In baseball it seems that all the players are concerned about is who is going to get the largest contract - even if they don't live up to the money they're getting paid.

I really think that MLB needs to look at a salary cap like the NFL and NBA in order to keep competition up and also help curb some of this senseless fighting. As a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates I know how badly it sucks to see all the teams in your division throw money out the window while we have to be very conservative with our spending - lending itself to the reason the Pirates can't sign another high profile player. I can understand why fans lose interest - I mean if your team is always in the gutter are you really want to go and cheer them on? Everyone loves a winner and in todays society loyalty seems to be easily shifted to whatever team is leading the pack.

Once again I truly hope the strike doesn't occur and that a salary cap can be agreed upon before I lose interest in what was once and still is my favorite sport.

Go Bucs!!!

A salary cap will not happen.

The owners of the big teams (NY Mets, NY Yankees, Atlanta, LA, etc)won't let it happen.

It would be a shame to lose a great sport this way.

For All of the Pirates fans here, let's hope we don't lose our team like MLB says we might.

I don't want to see a strike. or lose the pirates, (even after they built PNC Park, which i haven't seen.)

What is the WWE's slogan nowadays? "We're not even pretending it's real?"

Anyway, baseball strike, what else is new. The players and the owners are both too darn greedy.

As of right now I don't think the Pirates are at risk of contraction - the new stadium is acting as life support for at least the next five to ten years or so. Right now the teams on the block are the Expos, the Twins, the Royals, the Devil Rays and the Marlins. These seem to be the top teams to be moved or completely contracted. While contraction might be the way to go I think it's a shame that the greed of the owners and players would allow this to happen - you would think they would realize that this would amount to a lose of jobs and not really benefit anyone in particular.

Which is exactly what the overpaid big babies of baseball need to do. I hope they do strike just so the sport can die. Come back in a few years after the dust has settled and just start over with a salry cap and whatever else they think they need. I personally find baseball boring and will maybe tune into something like the 9th inning of a game or watch the World Series occasionally, but that's it.

I'm just about through w/ organized sports as a whole:

1. I don't follow hockey
2. I'm a casual football fan, I like the Seahawks
3. Basketball is getting boring
4. If baseball strikes, I strike

i was mad in '94 because 2 of my favorite clubs: Yankees & Expos were on a collision course to the WS. That strike killed baseball in Montreal. Who knows how things would've changed had the Expos won in '94. Maybe they hold onto their talent. Or maybe they do what the marlins did in '97: who knows?

more an more people are turning to college sports.
and more and more people are staying away from sports altogether: movies, going out, dining, hanging out, travelling, internet. People have more options today and spectator sports are falling way behind.

There will be no strike.

BUT.

If the owners and players cannot reach an agreement that involves a team and individual player salary cap, the owners will enact a lockout. And baseball will suffer.

There are teams that won't be there if and when baseball returns from either a strike or a lockout. The Minnesota Twins, the Kansas City Royals, The Montreal Expos, the Florida Marlins, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Arizona Diamondbacks (Already in huge debt), the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and the Philadelphia Phillies are all at risk of being gone if that happens.

I'm a huge fan, and have followed this thing since 1996. The owners and players have done NOTHING. There will be a lockout, or a strike. Expect it. Baseball will never be the same. It's sad, but it's true. Until the Player's Association dumps Donald Fehr, baseball in some cities is gone.

They are overpaid to the maximum. Hope the strikers rot in hell.
