The Hawkman series isn't that great. The story concepts aren't that interesting to me. Anyone else feeling this way?

I agree. I was really looking forward to this series and its really nothing nearly as great as I thought it would be. But I was hoping that the relationship of Carter and Kendra would be dealt with in JSA, where its pacing would be more drawn out and make us wait longer to see developments. That's just how I enjoy reading comics. Some people like things to happen all in one issue so they won't be wondering from month to month. I prefer thinking things over and building things up

Howdy,

After reading the previews for it and looking over the first issue, I think the biggest problem I have with the new Hawkman series is that it's trying to explain away the continuity mess that is Hawkman, instead of just admitting defeat and rebooting the character mid-stream. Maybe a letter from an editor at the start of the issue explaining what's now canon and what isn't.

I have officially decided to stop reading Hawkman, because of the bad storyline and the price hike on DC Comics, it just won't work.

What do you find bad about the title?
Just curious.
Also, it seems that the Hawks would've
been ignored for the last three months
in JSA as they (along with just about everybody else) were under the thrall
of the Ultra-Humanite.

Derek, forgive me if I sound sarcastic, or if I simply misunderstood your question...

But we just explained what we didn't like about this title.

As far as the world being under the control of the UH over in the JSA book, you have to remember that times flows differently in titles. Just because the issues came out during the same months, it does not mean the stories take place at exactly the same time. Likewise, just because a month has passed from issue to issue, it hardly means that a month has passed in comic time. I've seen 12 part stories that take place in the course of a day or two.

I know that comic time is different from
real time, but forgive me if I sound sarcastic, but you live in real time don't you?

All I was getting at is that had you not
had the Hawkman title that you would
not have had ANY pacing(with the Hawks) in JSA for the
last couple of (real-we-live-in-it-time)months.

Just to reiterate, why I asked was that
your reasons(as a whole) didn't seem that concrete.

Sugar Daddy-Isn't great. Uninteresting.

Yourself- Isn't as great as I thought.
Pacing not to your liking.

Ace-Price Hike. Tries to Explain continuity.

It seems like you don't like it either
'cause it's not JSA or not what you expected. I don't mean to put words
in anyones mouths. But what did you expect? What did you think was going to happen that would make it a better series? The pacing would be more drawn out, thus making it interesting?
The pacing and whether the story is self-contained and/or deals with continuity seems to be a matter of preferance.

Would you have liked them to break
free of the Super-Hero mold?

I personally like that. It's kinda why I read more DC books.

The reasons I don't like it are:
1-The storyline is bad. I wasn't expecting a certain storyline, I was expecting better quality.

2-Because of the price hikes, it makes it harder for me to keep buying a book I hope gets better.

So that's why I am dropping Hawkman.

Personally I enjoy the new Hawkman series. The writer has been rather imaginative with the Hawks powers. He's been able to play off the differant characters rather well. He doesn't seem to be in much of a rush to explain the continuity errors either in my opinion. Seems like he just lightly mentions something each issue. Much less the art is beautiful..

Now i am more of a Katar fan (as i have mentioned in other posts(and i mean the post hawkworld prezero hour one) but Carter is being used in a more fun way then i'm used to. The only inconsistancy i have found is that from my memory Carter used to be blonde... now he has brown hair.... oh well maybe the old coot dyed it. anywho thats just my opinion... and after all thats what this is all about..
