Bugs looks pretty fit for a 61-year-old rabbit. Must be all those carrots he eats.
Happy Birthday to a wonderful wabbit! ("Gosh, I'm so unimportant!")

--except that Bugs is the Dick Clark of rodentlike mammals. Ironically, the voice of Bugs, Mel Blanc, hated carrots, but the foley guy couldn't find another food that provided just the right crunch. Blanc would bite a carrot, chew it as he delivered a line, then hock the pieces into a nearby watebasket.
Hopefully if I'm ever in the v.o. biz I won't have that problem--I like pretty much all sorts of foods. Though I do draw the line at dry dog kibble....

Oh geez, once I actually tasted dry dog kibble. I didn't mean to, but someone threw it into my mouth. (but, er, it didn't really taste all that bad. Kinda salty, but no bad.)
But then, the time I ate hamster food I wasn't quite so lucky: it was disgusting. Too much iron in it.:p

doing Yosemite Sam's voice. Although I know he did it at least once, I am not sure if he ever did it again. He claimed that it hurt his voice.
Mel Blanc did Sam's voice for all the classic shorts. It is supposedly a very hard voice to pull off, which is why it sometimes sounds awful in the newer efforts. Blanc apparently even lost his ability to do it later in life, none of his voicework for Sam in "Who framed Roger Rabbit" was used, they used Joe Alaskey for Sam while Blanc did everyone else (Bugs, Daffy, ect).

I was just thinking of that yesterday! Ah, sweet irony, how little you bequeath thyself unto me. :D I was watching some of me old toon tapes and some Bugs-Sam shorts showed up, I thought, "hmm, gee, that sounds like a rather HARD voice to do.." I can do a voice similar to it which is less painful. Then again, my voice is rather deep, so doing gruff voices doesn't hurt my throat like it did before I hit puberty. :p

Some of the last Yosemite Sam recordings Mel made were little voice snippets and whanot that Noel has put into the talking toys. Perhaps the most bizarre is Sam and Tweety doing a duet of "Purple People Eater" on the Sing-along Tweety doll.
Although, Sam does get the nifty "If the first two letters are ever the same..." bridge in "The Name Game."
In both cases, you can tell Mel was really trying to pull the voice off well. It was passable, but not great work.
But still, what an actor Mel was! Twelve years later and they're still trying to find good successors.

I've read Mel's autobiography several times. It was published in the later years of Mel's life (1985, if memory serves) and about 4 years before his tragic death. Anyway, I recall Mel's story about Sam's voice: He said he spent a long time trying to think of what kind of voice would fit a short bully with a short temper. He came up with the perfect idea while he was driving and got mad at someone. He started yelling and realized, "Hey! That's just the voice I needed!" He said it took alot for the proper delivery, and it was very similair to Foghorn's. (He said he'd mixed the two up on occasion)
Over the years remembering how to do a voice can be rather difficult. This is shown with the evolution of Tweety's voice. In almost every cartoon until around the 50s, Mel did a slightly different voice each attempt. I recall reading that Tweety was sped up in Mel's book as well as several others. But he also developed it as a regular voice which wasn't sped up because I have an older friend who said he saw Blanc perform Tweety live. (Lucky guy, I know)
Really, the major difference in Foghorn and Sam is the raspiness of the throat. Foghorn is a bellowy voice probably pulled from the diaphram and given clearly through the vocal chords. (Think Ed Bighead from Rocko or any similair voice Charlie Adler used) Sam, on the other hand, is short bursts from the diaphram with a specific degree on raspiness from the vocal chords. (Think of McVicker from Beavis and Butt-Head as an example) Mel also seems to have thrown in a growl to make it sound like he's screaming, even when he's just saying dialogue.
Mel's character acting was unbeatable. If you slow down Speedy, for example, you get a Cheech impression which is still in character for Speedy. If you slow down Daffy, you get Sylvester (Mel's natural voice) and but with the character of Daffy throughout. Mel even stated that he gave Sylvester significantly more spray than Daffy, and this can be heard if you slow down and speed up any of the voices.
But enough rambling about that. Long live the voices!

I don't like carrots, so I probably wouldn't like carrot juice.
Bugs Bunny could probably eat carrots and drink carrot juice during at least half of his birthday, because HE'S A WABBIT! Err... I mean rabbit.
