View Full Version : Destroying the earths rotation...

My brother & I got into a discussion the other day. He asked me to start a petition to get everyone on the planet earth to start running in the opposite direction of the earths rotation, and throw the earths rotation off balance, and maybe causing the earth to shake a little. Hmm....
So, what are your opinions on the subject? Think it's possible?

Also, as a side subject, eventually our discussion was thrown into something about getting a whale to run around the earth in 30 days. My brother doesn't think it's probable, but I think that if you got the whale big enough shoes, that were comfortable...he'd do it.....

:D

:D I don't think it would ever happen. People are inherently lazy. Besides I figure why bother. In about 40 years China should have a big enough population to do it for us. I mean, they'll just be doing they're regular daily stuff and *BAM* the Earth will start to wobble. It will only be a short time after that that the Earth will start to change it's rotation. :D :D :D

Well, friction would be one concern--I'm not sure if it would help or hinder the endeavor. Secondly, it would presume the people would run in a straight line, which can't be done because sooner or later an obstacle such as a tree, building, or a body of water would be encountered, and people would have to veer to avoid them, thus disrupting the inertia flow.
I'd say stick to a plan involving food, such as either increasing the amount of a given foodstuff to encourage gluttony or severely limiting it to encourage price wars. The hubris of the masses will be its downfall.... :D

What would be the point in doing that? It makes no sense.
Sorry if that came out rude. I am confused about the whole subject.

Technically you would have to run in the same direction of the earth's rotation to get it to rotate in the opposite direction.

Best of luck to ya!

i dont think thats possible, although, if it is possible, you would have to consider the side effects that would happen to this planet if it happened IMO :)

Here's my question: If any mammal may contract rabies, what would happen if a whale got infected? I'd pay to see that.

So, you're suggesting we have a giant whale, running around in Nike's, foaming at the mouth with Rabies?!

now that is just sick.........

Didn't TMNT and Darkwing Duck prove that this COULD in fact be done?

;)

;) Prove what? The rabid whale in tennis shoes or stopping the Earth's rotation? :D

I shouldn't be upset. It's all silliness! At least, I hope.

Meh, it is. Just look at the "explanations" posted by users. They might be on the right track, but it seems as if we have a long way to go until such a thing is truly discovered. ;)

wouldn't thatbe mass suicide? seeing as how we would all fly of the earth and die if it ever stopped spinning.

If we run the way Earth rotates will it make the Earth rotate faster?
