Does anyone know why this always fetches such high prices on ebay? I saw one copy sell for almost a hundred dollars a couple of weeks ago. It almost always sells for close to $50.

The video does contain many of the most popular WB cartoons ("Rabbit of Seville", "What's Opera, Doc?", "One Froggy Evening") all on a single tape. Casual cartoon watchers (the ones who ask "What's the name of the cartoon where Bugs and Elmer sing Opera?") probably find it easier to buy them all on a single volume, instead of searching around for individual out-of-print tapes. That's just my guess.

Yeah, but why would a casual cartoon watcher (or even a serious one) pay upwards of $100 for a video that's not even out of print?

My guess for this would be because the videeo contains "How Do I Know It's Sunday." To the die-hard Looney Tunes fan, this is the only place to find a rare 1934 B&W Merrie Melodies toon that CN will not play. It's has not aired on TV since the early 90's on Nick and it lacked the opening/closing theme music. I don't know why CN never aired it on LNB&W, I saw nothing offensive in it. Just a guess though...

BTW, I bought this tape off ebay last week in a Buy It Now for $9.99. Plays great! :D

I can imagine someone paying $50 for this tape because they didn't want to subscribe to all of the LT videos Columbia House sells. But $100! That's ridiculous. It makes me wonder if the sellers are just preying upon ignorant folk who think the video is really worth that much. That's the only explanation I can think of (but then we're talking about some REALLY ignorant people here).

Hmmm, there were a few scenes with black caricatures (particularly Aunt "Mima") in that one, as well as the main character being an Eskimo boy (was he off the box of "Eskimo Pies"?). :p

One could also get the tape for $19.95, if they joined Columbia House....

I think that is ridiculous. It's just a video tape, for crying out loud...they're way overpriced to begin with. I recently won (in fact I sent the check today) one of those Columbia House tapes entitled "Porky and Daffy", for a little under 20 dollars. The MAXIMUM I'd pay for one of these is 30 dollars. I bought this particular volume because it featured "Naughty Neighbors" in black and white, and I've never seen it that way. I think there were a few other previously unavailable black and whites. I tried to get one called "A Battle Of Wits" a while ago, and that thing went for nearly 100 dollars.

I know this might sound crazy, but I think it's best to check old video-rental stores to at least view these cartoons. After all, they very rarely throw any of the old children's videos away, and I'm sure there are quite a lot of rare ones.

This reminds me of something, at that---when I was rather young, I used to rent a video that collaborated a bunch of popular cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny, Alvin and the Chipmunks, even ALF, I believe. Any idea as to what this could be, or is this some unwanted dream?

Just curious. :p

Sounds like "Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue" an anti-drug public service TV special. It used a bunch of then popular cartoons characters (Slimer, Muppet Babies, Alf) as well as classic characters.

The way I see it, if someone wants to pay 50, or 75, or 100 bucks for something that can be obtained (from the manufactuer, yet) for 25, then that's their prerogative.

I am proud to say that I haven't yet bought one of the Columbia House tapes off eBay for more than their normal selling price (the video in the topic subject included), and I only have five tapes to go to complete the set in the few months I've been collecting them. So I just have to laugh at the people who just keep bidding again and again (usually for "Musical Masterpieces," but I notice also for "The Vocal Genius" or any of the "back five"), thinking they are these ultra-rare collector's items that won't ever appear on DVD in our lifetimes.

You'd think the bidders would catch on when they see it's the same four sellers offering the same videos at least twice every week.
