On MST3k last weekend they were showing this "Merlin" movie and in one part an earthquake occurs that looks like Bugs Bunny digging through the ground. Tom Servo quoted "Looks like Bugs Bunny took that wrong turn to Albuquerque!"

The writers of MST3K love classic animation (Not to mention that the show was semi-modeled on the characters of Beany and Cecil)

MST3K has had references of cartoons from the silent Winsor McCay cartoons all the way to modern crap.

It's kind of weird...some of the newer WB shows have references to MST3K!

The show's creator, Jeff Nelson, did a book a couple of years back that featured a number of essays (in the MST3K mode) on films, TV shows, actors, etc., including one on Cartoon Network in which most of the daily line-up -- except for WB, of course -- and Ted Turner were skewered mericlessly.

Actually, his name is Mike Nelson, and he didn't create the show (that honor goes to Joel Hodgson).

years ago, there was a porody of country music (and their writer's habit of referencing each other's songs):

"I'll mention in your song in my song,
If you'll mention my song in yours
...
After all, it's not like we're kissing ass
When it's each other's ass we're kissing"

I liked it...

also (while in this off-topic area) fav c/w song titles (yes, I saw these in truck-stop jukeboxes in the 70's (checkered past)):

1. (female singer) 'You Must Think My Bed's a Bus Stop, the Way You Come and Go'

2. 'Drop-Kick me Jesus, Though the Field Goal of Life'

Many newer shows have references to older shows. Be original, and don't mention other shows.
