Just got the DVD, and watched the first episode last night. Good, decent show, and I can see why people compared it to Batman, but I was wondering a couple things. Is the voice of the main character the same guy who does the voice for Spike on Cowboy Bebop? And is that big guy with the scar Jet?

Yes, I think that is Spike, and it wouldn't surprise me if the cop is Jet.
Did you know that the VA for Dorothy is the Big Shots cowgirl?

Sounds like they are keeping alot of the talent from Bebop on this one. What is the cops name on Big O? It would be cool if Big O served as a prequel of sorts to Cowboy Bebop, especially if towards the end of the series Spike came into Jet's life.

His name...Daston? Or something.
By the way, when you get to the character named "Angel," try to guess who does her voice. "Angel" is sexy...am I giving too much away? ;)

Hmmmm...I still think that character is the same from Cowboy Bebop. Perhaps his nick name Jet comes later. Or he could have changed his name. I don't know if the creators of Big O intended for the cop character to look that much like Jet, but it is so similar, I can't imagine it was a mistake.

Well, they are both Sunrise shows...so that may be a reason.

so do you think they are recycling character designs or using Jet as the same character in both stories, using Big O as a prequel of sorts?

Cowboy Bebop and Big O have nothing in common except they were both created by Sunrise, both Dubbed by Animaze(sp?), and are both excellent series in their own right.

Still grasping at straws, eh?
Trust me, that cop isn't Jet. There has only been one Cowboy Bebop TV production, and that's it. Sorry.

Grasping at straws? Nah, just confused. Somebody at work told me the cop in there was Jet from Cowboy Bebop, which was a main motivation in me ordering Big O on DVD. So I guess I am a tad disappointed I got fed wrong information, but oh well. The show is good on it's own merits. I guess, tho, that's why I was looking for the Big O/Cowboy Bebop connection right from the start.

Oh, that's ok. I was interested in Big O before hand, which is why the discussion came up at work. That tid bit of "info" was the motivation for me to buy it when I did, but I am sure I would have gotten it either way even if I hadn't been told that, maybe just not when I did buy it, but later on.

I would say that the best way to look for the roots of Cowboy Bebop is to get as much Lupin III as you can get. The main cast in Lupin III are almost prototypes of CB's.
It's too bad that they don't get the Lupin TV series over here, though. At least you have Castle of Cagliostro.

Nadia and Robotech are also due for their second volumes in August, too. It's good that they aren't making us wait long between releases!

I'm waiting for "Niea_7," myself. And "Now and Then, Here and There" should be released one day soon. Now THAT anime is the bleakest of the bleak.

I haven't heard of either...tell me more!

Niea_7 is a non-action anime that centers around some girl and her weird roommate. It's kinda wacky, but it has sprinkles of post-war Italian films in it, considering it centers on people in poverty. Despite that description, it's generally funny, and the friendship between the two characters is quite well done. It will be released in August--should be next week.
Here's a rather enthusiastic website of "Now and Then, Here and There." It makes rather large claims, and I don't think if it beats Cowboy Bebop in style, but it definitely packs a harsh emotional punch, at least from what I've seen.
