They look almost alike. Maybe Hanna-Barbera modeled Scooby after the boxer dog from "A Dime to Retire".

Scooby is a Great Dane while the dog in "Dime To Retire" is a Boxer.

I like this cartoon since I happen to have a pet Boxer (His name is Bosco!)

Hmmmm Patrick (Calvin)... Bosco the boxer!!! You'll have to get a hound-ish playmate for him named Bruno!!! (Course I managed to snag an original 1933 animation drawing of Bruno the other day from "Bosko In Dutch", so Bosko's dog comes to mind easily).

As for Scooby and the "Dime To Retire" canine, yep, they are indeed in different breeds... But nonetheless there is a physical resemblance between these two cartoon canine creations. The great dissimilarity is that Mr. Doo is somewhere between a gentle clown and a moron (sorry Scooby fans), while the boxer is all fangs, froth and ferociousness. Don't think we'll ever see "Dime To Retire" boxer house-shoes, underwear or toilet-seats ;) :) :p

Maybe if we pay Daffy $66, he'll bring in a Lion to sic on Scooby. Then put iron battleship plates on the walls so Scooby (and his shadow) can't break through, and that will solve Cartoon Network's Grate Dane problem.

OOOOOHHHH, you're a cruel one, J. Lee, but I like that idea, only, how about throwing in Scrappy Doo too?

Well brainththth...

Those are superlative notions to solve the Cartoon Network problems. Buuuuut to really solve 'em once and for all then we'd need to chuck Shaggy in and let the LION make complete and total mincemeat of Scooby, Crappy Doo :D , and good old Shaggy... Definitely no more mistaking the remains for REAL Looney Tune characters!!!
