So, does the Buttons and Mindy theme have a name, or was it made up by Richard Stone? I'm pretty sure I've heard a variation of the theme before, though.

Mindy's theme is original; Buttons' is from an opera called "The Flying Dutchman" - Wagner, I think. I may have this confused with the opera piece used in "Potty Emergency."

--the opening theme is a parody of Lassie's (presumably written especially for that famous collie)...unless you mean the cutesy flute music that plays in the shorts when Mindy is onscreen.

I meant the cutesy flute music that plays in the shorts when Mindy is onscreen. That song gets stuck in my head very easily.

That music is also featured while Tweety dances during one of the Clampett Tweety's...I think that it's Birdy and The Beast, but if not it's A Gruesome Twosome. So it's definitely not original to Mindy, but I dunno where it's from originally.

Tweety's dance is definitely from "Birdy and the Beast". I am sure that the two pieces (Tweety's dance music and Mindy's theme) are completely different; their melodies are just strikingly identical. Is it just me, or should some label release the fine scores of Richard Stone? (he was taken too soon :()

Well, either they are the same song, or someone ripped off someone else big time. The only difference is that Tweety's song has some instrument...trumpet?...blaring very loudly and the song then repeats. Mindy's version has those last calm, lowering 8 notes instead. It is possible that someone working on A! could have slightly adjusted it so that the song ended instead of continuing on forever, or I guess someone at WB could have had the idea to change it so it repeated and Tweety could keep dancing.

Just over 4 weeks until it airs on Bob Clampett show, then you guys can judge for yourselves. This weekend is Show 7, Birdy and the Beast is on Show 11.

just re-viewed 'Birdy' - the only tune I could identify that may be new to some is 'Bye-Bye Blackbird', played during the cat's climbing of the tree, and Tweety's subsequent use of the grenade.

If this is what we are talking about:
this was a popular tune in the 30's which then, apparently, picked up some v. heavy racist baggage - the only person I ever saw perform it on TV was Sammy Davis Jr., and he prefaced it with 'I've been wanting to do this for years'...

I like it, BTW

Do you know the scene shown during commercials for The Bob Clampett Show, when the say "He gave us Tweety Bird" and show Tweety dancing/walking and whistling at the same time? That is the scene where the flute music is being played, it seems like Tweety is whistling it. I know that they definitely show a scene from Birdy and The Beast with Tweety pulling on a cat's tongue, but is the dancing from that too? Anyways, the music plays during the dancing/walking scene.

I'm not sure which of the two, Birdy or Gruesome Twosome, the scene is from, but I am favoring Birdy. But is that scene familiar to you, heathen? Even if you recognize it, I dunno of there's a name for the tune.

We might need to move this over to Termite Terrace. I didn't care too much about this before, but now it's driving me crazy!

Yep, that scene is in the commercial, and the flute playing is supposed to be Tweety whistling. I think the Mindy theme is a toned/slowed down and softer version of that Tweety flute song. it sounds very similar.

out of hand...

when Tweety pulls out the cat's tounge to use as a blanket, the tune is 'Rockabye Baby' - I figured that one wouldn't stump anyone...

since I don't have CN, no (current) Bob Clampett shows, and, if there were 60's ones, even I'm too young to remember them

SO....

can anyone recommend an Animaniacs tape which includes an ep with the silly tune?

d

p.s. - damn you jack - see what you've started!?

I wouldn't call it out of hand...

You can find tapes at Amazon.com, but none of them list what episodes are on each tape. I suggest you go to a video store and try to find "Wackko's Wish," the Mindy theme is played whenever Mindy is shown, such as when the movie starts and Snowflakes with images of the characters are used to introduce everyone. Mindy is the little girl who is chased by the dog just incase you aren't familiar with it. It is used in every Buttons and Mindy cartoon ever made.

You're mad about the snow leopard thing still, aren't you?

I have also posted this question at Termite Terrace. Since the question is now mostly about Tweety, it fits well over there. If we get an answer over there, I'll try to post it over here for any Club board regulars who are interested but don't head over there. Here is a link to my post at T.T.

Robin Williams, from the planet Pantyhose, no doubt.

No comment 'bout the whole pantyhose thing...

About the theme music...is it the same music as the one that's always played when it shows the title of a 'Slappy' episode? That cutesy flute music?

a. there are eggs that do NOT contain pantyhose...

b. Robin Williams played Mork from the planet Ork.

(the egg bit:
when the show was running out of energy (see Simpsons), Robin brought in Jonathon Winters as a 'baby'.
The story line concocted was:
Orkians are born full-grown, and grow younger with time (as I said, running on empty). They actually had J.W. 'hatch' from a giant egg on camera - the show didn't last too much longer...

Mindy's also on "Animaniacs Stew." I hadn't realized her theme is so similar to Tweety's whistling song. They might be the same.

Slappy's theme is not the same - it's Dvorak's "Humoresque."
