I was upset it didn't win the Oscar that year. :)

Seriously, with its amazing story, fantastic dialogue and Bat nipples, I though it was a shoe-in! :)

I have to agree with the article...the movie sucked. I expected better. Now i am putting all my hopes up for the Spidey movie :)

I agree with the comments on B&R, but Phantom Menace the worst sequel ever? Man, I bet everybody wishes they could have a worst sequel that made that much money...

I don't think TPM was the worst sequel, there was far much more worse stuff, like B & R, Superman 4, or Leprechaun In Space.

Well rather true to an extent, none of those you list had the expectations riding on it like the Phantom Menace did. I think Phantom Menace will go down in history as the weakest Star Wars movie. At least I hope. I would hate to see any other one do worse.

You know, and I am being serious, I know somebody who thought that Batman and Robin was a great film. Not joking. Of course, he's a loser big time.

That article nailed it right on. B&R is a disgrace to Batman.

My parents thought I was gay for awhile becuase of this movie (It's a long, long complicated story I hate repeating). It took alot of girlfriends to convince them other-wise. Aside from temporarily ruining my homelife with the folks, the movie still sucks. It's just horrible. Garbage. Crap. Dung. A pile of vomit. In other words: typical Schumaucher, or as I call him Crapmaucher.

Are you kidding me that movie had so much witty dialouge. I mean Poison Ivy having Gordon hit on her.
"Mr. Freeze: Take 2 f these and call me in the morning."
Oh well yeah it was bad, Bat credit card
I know some guys who just loved it for Alicia Silvertones suit up
:p ;)

now see..B&R should be #1. and TMP should't be in there at all. Why? Well:
1)Sucky movies don't make it to the #3 on the Top-Grossing Movie of ALL time.
2) It's not a sequel..it's a PREQUEL
3) It's a good movie, aside from the Binks guy, but, the lightsaber fights kicked!..and the podrace..that was just too cool.
So, if you think about it..the guy that wrote that article was on crack. The rest of the article is accurate..but.. like DG said.. Superman 4 was a horrible sequel..and that should be #2..while #1 should be B&R...it'd be the first thing B&R was #1 at..

EDIT: Yeah, I meant #3 grossing movie..I accidentally put 1..hehe..long story..lol

TMP isn't exactly the #1 grossing movie of all time. The crappy movie TITANIC is with about $600 mill domestic. But while TPM may be a let down, I still think it's better than B & R.

TMP better than B&R? MUCH better thank you very much. :) But then again, I kinda liked TMP. It wasn't the best movie, but it had its moments.

Titanic is a prime example of how a sucky movie CAN make money at the box office. And the Phantom Menace SUCKS. Man, I am so sick of EVERYBODY who tries to defend this pile of dung by saying, "But the pod race was cool." So five minutes out of the ninety were cool. Big whoop. It had moments, and that's it. Let's face it, if any other movie came out without a popular name behind it and it had five cool minutes out of ninety, and had some good moments sprinkled here and there, the majority of people who saw it would slam it. But some how you forgive TPM because it's Star Wars and Lucas. If this was some other film makers' first movie, I doubt you'd be so forgiving.

If EVERYBODY tries to defend it, then maybe it was actually good. Idon't know about you guys, but I found it entertaining. Something that I really hated about the movie was Jar Jar. Now that was a cruddy character. And annoying too. Maybe it "sucked" while compared to the first trilogy (as everyone knows the first 3 flicks were better, and it shows), but on its own it's a fun and ok movie. I would never try to convince myself that a movie is good, just becasue of its namesake. That would be STUPID.

Yeah, hopefully Ep. 2 wil be tolerable. Anyways, back to B & R - ya gotta wonder what they expected the fan response would be to this garbage. Even the execs musta known they'd get crucified.

HA! Not everybody is trying to defend the Phantom Menace! But everybody who does defend it clings to the same lame arguement the rest of the defenders do.

A well done pod race doesn't make a movie good.

It reminds me of that scene in Clerks The Animated Series where they have George Lucas on the stand and Randal wants his money back for the movie, and somebody says, "But the pod race was kinda cool." That about sums up any defense I have heard about the movie.

Yes. I agree. But the thing these people had weak arguments as to why they thought the movie good. Also, some ppl tend to let others influence their opinion on certain things. Like when they're surroudned by people who hated they movie and were vocal about, they were overwhelmed and had nothing better to say. This is a reality man.

Since we're on the subject of Star Wars, do you guys wanna read something interesting I found on another message board? This one concerns Episode 1 being rated #1 as the worst sequal.
http://209.197.112.151/thread.html?dom=ss&TID=9&PID=5224
If you get the chance, check this one out too. It concerns the Episode 1 toys.

I think die-hard Star Wars fans seem pretty bitter (or maybe it's just me). Or maybe they're just a different breed of fans whose level we're not on???
Do you guys agree or disagree with what "Episode1Sucks" posted?

I'm curious to know why everybody thinks the Pod-race was cool? Sure, it looked and sounded superb (but so does the rest of the film, as you'd expect from a flick with so much money thrown at the SFX...), but I simply cannot feel any sort of excitment when I watch it. There just doesn't seem to be any dramatic tension AT ALL! I dunno, maybe it's because I love watching real cars race (F1, CART, IRL, NASCAR etc) that this insipid two horse race just doesn't light my fire... Besides which, the pod-race is probably one of the main reasons the film was such a dud anyway - the whole of the film is warped and twisted just to shoe-horn this damn race into it - why the Hell couldn't somebody tell Uncle George that it'd be a lot better if the that lame 45 minutes or so on Tatooine wasn't in the film AT ALL..!
And, on the subject of Batman and Robin, I thought Arnie's portrayal of Mr Freeze, easily my favourite bat-villain, was a subtle, poignant balance of rage and abject dispair. His script was witty and well observed, and he delivered the lines with panache and a deft understanding of human suffering... Oh no, sorry, my mistake, that was his performance in Commando...

I found George Clooney to be so intruiging, bringing so many dimensions to his character. He made me laugh and cry, and realize the world isn't so bad. Oh wait that...um...ahh...not Clooney. While I guess B & R was expected to suck, hence the #2 spot, TPM was meant to rock, hence the most dissapointment. It all makes sense now...

As a SW fan I was pretty let down by E1. I had expected better by was ok with the results. All's I gotta say is that E2 better kick some tail. Although I did like the final battle between Maul, Kenobi and Jinn... Any way, R& R was horrid. There were some cute scenes, but over all it was a 0 out of 10. Ivy was too... trampish to put it mildly, not the savy little fox she's supposed to be. Freeze was ok, but was too hoky at times. The screwed the commisioner in all the movies, he's supposed to be smart... And then there's B & R themselves. O'Donnell was cute but too whiny (he did much better in The Batchlor... I think that's the name) I hated the I wanna quit speech. Pity he couldn't have done it the like they did in the animated series. One good hit... Clooney was OK... Pretty good Bruce, bad Batman. A little too soft. THEN there's... She Who Will Not Be Named. She was an insult to the actual character (actually, they all were). Silverstone was horrible! And Afred's niece?!?! Where the hey does that come in??? Not only that but she had a mustache! I've never seen any worse fighting skills in my life! I expecte4d so much more from that movie... sniff. Oh well. Just don't let that Joel guy get near Batman again.

I've seen Batman and Robin and I have to say that it probably shouldn't have been made. Actually, the preceding movie shouldn't have been made either. I'd have been happy if they stopped at two, quite frankly. They tried to cram too many villains into one movie--Freeze, Ivy and Bane, who just came off looking like a big grunting ape and really felt tacked on. Now I heard Alicia Silverstone (who I liked in Clueless and The Crush) had to crash-diet herself nearly to death to fit into the Bat-Suit...but a mustache ? Now I'll be forced to actually watch this flick again and look for that detail. Thanks a lot, Batgirl. ;) It's frightening when the male characters' mammaries are bigger than the females'...
As for the Star Wars prequel--I have yet to see it, but I recall having dinner with an old college friend of my mother's and her neice...and Mom's friend said she thought Jar-Jar was "cute"! Make of that what you will. RockItShipper is happy that her favorite cast member, Boba Fett, will be in the fifth movie, and I have a feeling he'll be the high point. Me, I'm a Vader man. During the aforementioned dinner I trotted out my imitation of long, tall, and ugly for the ladies' amusement..."You will now embrace the power of the dark side." [raspy breathing]
