i'm anticiapting the debute of this new series. no question of that. it's just that there's a few details i don't get..when exactly does this series takle place? is this the near future, out time?? is it in it's own "universe", or is this tied with the contineum of superman the animated series and the batman animated series ? it looks to be so, but if that's the case a few things don't make sense with it.. i've got no problem accepting the superman series connection. the finale of that show left the opening for any kind concept like justice leauge..batman being involved on the other hand, really kind of confuses things. it's mainly the joker really. i mean, return of the joker had us believe that joker was killed during the time of the "bat team" era, involoving robin, batgirl etc..it seems like justice leauge stretches far beyond that time to a point where batman is now on his own.. though he should've been long dead, the joker is still alive and well. it doesn't seem to fit..the idea of batman as a "team player" never really fit as far as i'm concerned either..i was glad to see he's written as a loner, but i was pretty shattered to see that he was descibed as losing his "dark style"..i really don't think that the classsic dark knight style animated batman should be lost..it was such a careful, perfect construction of his unique persona over all those years.. now it seems like it's being killed for the series..seems a real shame to me.. it's almost one step away from batman being thrown back into the campy, adam west batman era..i know that seems kind of drastic, but it just almost seems that way..i'm not doubting the show as a whole though. i'm also not doubting bruce timm and company in the least sense. i think the man has the capabilities to even make a barney special cool. it's just those few things that seem kind of questionable..i know i'm getting pretty serious and analitical over a cartoon show lol...i realize i should just sit back and be entertained. i just can't help thinking about the little things though.. anyone here have any thoughts on the matter? thanks.

I thought the new JL series takes place after the last Batman series ended and before the flashback events in ROTJ. That's what I heard anyway.

BTW, have you checked out the Batman Beyond Board and the Justice League Board yet? This post would have fit well on the JL board.

Remember, the ROTJ flashback did NOT take place in TNBA time... in the flashback Arkham is gutted, which suggests that some time has passed. The Joker is still alive and well.

As for continuity, the creators have said that they'll work with most of what they've done before and only jettison the stuff that doesn't work, or stuff they feel like (in the case of changing Green Lantern to John Stewart).

And don't worry, Batman will still be a dark detective. They're playing the characters off each other, after all...

yeah, your right. this topic would go well on those boards too...if what your saying is right, then it would seem like it would make some sense for the joker to be involved.

All i think they mean by saying "Batman will not be as dark a character" is that they won't keep showing stories about his parents' murder, or how desolate his life is. He's still gonna be the same character, but remember, this series is not only about him. As much as a lot of us would like it, we're not going to see too much into Batman's life. Instead we're going to see everyone in the team. That's all they meant, i think. I hope.

Post 200 btw!!!

Timm said it will take place in the Batman/Superman universe, but will ignore some things here and there to make things more smoothe. They will be ignoring "IN BRIGHTEST DAY..." and possibly a few other things. As for Batman. he still will be dark, but he'll also be the outsider of the group. SInce the show isn't about just him, they won't be focusing on him as much. He'll be using his detective skills more in the show. I suggest you go here:

THis page collects all the JL news since April, when it was announced. It should help ya some.

Batman will still be dark the show just isn't focused on him anymore. And Dini made a comment about BB. Its a possible future. There is no continuity with JL to BB. JL is only loosely based on BTAS STAS AND TNBA.

Bummer. Here I thought Batman Beyond did fit in to the contiuity of it all. The likely hood of them telling stories about Batman until he gets that old would be unlikely, but I thought it was in the continuity. Oh, well.

It still is to me. And i think the writers will most likely not go completely against it, but if there is a problem (kinda like the inexplicable new GL) then i don't think the writers are gonna worry about the continuity.
