Your thoughts on the new GL costume

Hey guys, I just finished reading GL #150 and allI could say was.....whoah. Excellent way to bring back the Guardians, and it looks like the Corps is almost back. Anyway just wondering what your thoughts on the new costume are? I for one find it interesting, yet it just feels like it's missing something. I'm not sure what, but it definetly is. Oh wait, I know! The symbol! They changed the GL symbol yet again, and I'm not too fond of that. I enjoyed the Kyle Rayner GL emblen, and think it would actually look very good on the new costume. Comments?

I thought that this discussion may be a little more active if perhaps someone included images of the pre-150 Kyle Rayner and the 150 Kyle Rayner, so I took the liberty of tracking down images of both.

As a fan of Kyle Rayner from his initial appearance in Green Lantern #51, (although I feel it's worth noting that I am not NOT against Hal Jordan and the Corps; on the contrary, I was a big fan of Hal and company and the Corps back when I read their stories as a kid. Some people feel that in order to be a fan of Kyle, you need to hate Hal and tha'ts simply not the case,) I grew used to Kyle's take on the GL costume very quickly, and a year later, I found myself really liking it, almost to the point where I prefered Kyle's original costume over the classic look of the Corps uniform. By time Kyle showed up alongside the Corps in issue #100, I downright preferred Kyle's costume to the classic Silver Age uniform. It fit Kyle's artistic personality, and reinforced his uniqueness in his present as the last... the sole Green Lantern. I was never one to complain about the "crab mask" that people hated with unbridled passions. I was never one to complain about the relative lack of green in his costume. No. It was perfect to me, especially when drawn by Darryl Banks.

So I am biased when I say that I do not like the new look of Kyle Rayner. I admit to being close-minded on this matter, and with the apparent "revelations" in the Green Lantern title that #150 introduced, I think that I am going to stay away from the book for some time. I wish Judd and Dale all the luck with the title, and I hope the return of a Corps is well-done, but I personally will not be a reader. I'm sorry, but that is the way I feel and it's the best I can explain my sentiments without spoiling the issue for others or offending others.



EDIT: I thought of a more practical reason I don't care much for Kyle's new "duds" not too long ago. A reason so incredibly obvious that I can't believe I didn't originally think to point it out.

His gloves are green. It's so hard to see the ring against green gloves. That's why all GL's have always had white gloves or bare skin or black gloves in the animated series. Practicality for artists.

I think pre-150 issue costume looks way better than 150 costume.150 costume looks way too much like the originial costume.

I enjoy the new costume, although I did like the ION look (although I hated ION with a passion....)

I think it's going to take a while to get used to though. One thing I liked about Kyle's costume was the armored mask, gloves and boots. I thought that was a very unique addition, and it actually made me think of the Alan Scott in Kingdom Come...

I think I like it, but I can't say I like the symbol on the costume. It's a little too abstract for me. Well, I know most GL symbols are... but this one just doesn't do it for me. The rest of the costume is ok, although it does have a lot of black. Could use a little more green... I mean, he is the GREEN Lantern, right? :D

I for one like the new costume. It's new and has an air all it's own, but it's bit more reminiscent of the old corps uniform. Though I agree the symbol isn't that great, and he shoulda kept the old gloves.

Yeah, I like the new one but I agree with the consensus and think there should be some different colored gloves.

I do like the hair though, but I suppose that's not really part of the costume, huh?

I like it, but at the same time I think it's going backwards. Kyle made new steps, with armored pieces and a completely new mask and such. Now it's just a skintight suit, not interesting little accessories. I know I sound like Joan Rivers here, but I think the gloves, boots, and mask made it updated and cool. Now he looks like he's going back to the old style. It's nice, but there's just something I'm not used to yet. maybe with time I'll like it more.
