We got that same Tom & Jerry twice today.
How could they mix classic cartoons with new garbage? That is plain nonsense.

Actually, that episode of Dexter's Lab is pretty funny. That's the only Cartoon Cartoon show I can really tolerate.
CN should have aired their colorized version of The Shanty Where Santy Claus Lives instead, though. I don't get why CN doesn't show more of the colorized Harmon-Ising MM's so they could get more airtime outside of Late Night B&W.
Of course, the B&W version would be better.

I guess that Cartoon Network must be sniffing paint thinner, thinking that their home made crap can be right up there along with the classics.

A colorized cartoon is not really a "classic". It is rather a "ruined classic". Showing a redrawn or even a computer colorized cartoon on a special would be extremely annoying. Thank goodness they didn't put the redrawn The Shanty Where Santy Claus Lives on the Yule Toons show. That is one of the Merrie Melodies that gets played frequently enough on LNB&W.

Not ranting, just telling you that I hate colorization and I think it ruins classics.

If CN were smarter they could've aired something the black and white, uncut version of "Shanty Where Santy Claus Lives."

There's also the Fleischer version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It's PD and I've heard that it used to air regularly around Christmas time before the Rankin-Bass version came along. I'd also nomiinate Somewhere In Dreamland. Not the greatest story, but beautiful animation. I can remember when I was a kid and saw that one, that Candy Land had me practically drooling!
They really need to try to get more classic Yule toons, last Christmas had too many repeats of the Scooby and Flintstone Christmas specials. I think that most people would rather see a marathon of classic Yule toons.

Candy Land? Ya know that reminds me a Van Beuren cartoon called "Candy Land" or something like that. It has candy canes in it and it's PD.

The Fliescher version of "Rudolph" is on a number of public domain tapes, and apparently was animated under Max's supervision after he had been forced out by Paramount and was working for the Jam Handy studios in Detroit. Some of the animation is quite good, but you can see the limited budget problems shine through a whole lot as well in the short in certain scenes that have awkward designs and limited movement. Still better looking than the Rankin-Bass thing, though...

This limited budget nonsense. I think a cartoon is just as good whether it has a low budget or a high budget. On a related note, I find the DePatie-Freleng WB cartoons just as good as the early 50s WB cartoons. As for Rudolph, I doubt any version has ever made it to Cargoon Networm.
