Since several of us are using song quotes for signatures...
I have been trying to confirm something I heard approx. 30 yrs ago, and since we have a good mix North/South...
There was a Civil War song entitled 'The Cruel War' - anyone remember hearing this?
If so:
the (usually) last verse is:
Oh, Johnny, Oh Johnny,
I fear you are unkind.
I love you far better
Than all of mankind.
I love you far better
Than words can e'r express,
Oh, cant' I go with you,
Yes, my love yes.
Part 2:
(this is an open-book quiz - if you can find a printed version of this, please cite it).
There is another verse - I was told it was sung only in the South - does anyone know this verse?
