This is a special poll on who do you think is the most underated cartoon character(Theatrical only) in the eighty five year history of the animated cartoon.
And Why????

ANDY PANDA is my pick as the most underated cartoon star ever in cartoons back then.
Considering Andy (next to Woody) was Walter Lantz's second biggest star, he didn't quite get the attention he so truly deserves.Andy Panda hardly exists at the Universal Sudios theme parks, but there is Chilly Willy, Woody Woodpecker, and Splinter...But where is Andy
Some of Lantz's greatest cartoons from the forties, was the Andy Panda series from 1939 to 1949.Some of Andy's best cartoons such as:
FISH FRY
THE POET AND THE PLEASANT
APPLE ANDY
NUTTY PINE CABIN
THE WACKY WEED
These are among the greatest ANDY PANDA cartoons ever made. With great animation from SHAMUS CULHANE and GRIM NATWICK who worked on the Andy cartoons, and made them some of the funniest cartoons from that studio.
BTW:
If anybody has Andy Panda cartoons in their cartoon library, drop me an e-mail so we can work out a trade.

I voted for Barney bear.
He made 32 shorts(I think) and apart from maybe "The bear that could sleep" no one seems to mention him ever.
I really like the very realistic way that Barney is animated and he is really funny as well.
I would say that my favourite Barney shorts are
The bear that couldn't sleep
The fishing bear
Heir bear
The impossible possum.

Ripoffs deserve lots of attention! Don't try to change my mind! You know who I think he is a ripoff of, so there is no need for further discussion on my reply.

I chose Barney Bear. Granted, I haven't seen many of his cartoons (try as I may) but the few I have seen made me laugh out loud (i.e. "The Bear and the Bean", "Barney's Hungry Cousin"). I would give anything to be able to see some of Dick Lundy's Barney cartoons from the 1950's, especially "Wee Willie Wildcat" which, from what I have heard, seems more like a cartoon Tex Avery would direct.
Other Barneys I would like to see....
"The Little Wise Quacker"
"Cobs and Robbers"
"Bird Brain Bird Dog"

I vote for Andy Panda. HIs character was likable and could be used in a variety of situations. The best Andy Panda cartoons are those with a good story line (like "The Wacky Weed" and "Playful Pelican") and lots of gags (see "Fish Fry" and "Banquet Busters" w/Woody Woodpecker).

Gandy Goose.
Why? I have never heard of the character.

I know who you think he is a ripoff of, but it turns out that the character you say he's ripping off IS the ripoff! Yes, Mickey Mouse was a ripoff of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who was around BEFORE Mickey, during the silent era!

It was a tough choice... but I also voted for Andy. Especially after recently visiting the Universal theme park and seeing the snubbing of the Panda for myself. There was Woody and Chilly stuff everywhere, but no Andy stuff at all. It also should be noted that Andy wasn't brought back in that all-new Woody Woodpecker Show that was on FOX Kids a few years back (yet they revived a lame character like Miss Meany). I think it would have been rather interesting to see the redesigned Andy (those character designs of the new Woody show were about the only thing I liked about it --- most of the episodes I saw ranged from mediocre to poor).

Pietro, Thad, and Nelson posted the history of the Lucky Rabbit in another Lantz thread (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?threadid=3025) a few days ago.

I think this image I'm posting a link of is the most recent image of Andy Panda. It also has Miranda Panda, his girlfriend. The directory has only one file in it, so you should be able to find it easily.

Well, I'll try posting the image here, and you can right click where a picture should be, select properties, copy the URL, and paste it into your browser. I think that should work.

Sorry Thad, I got it to work right after I posted that. I don't know why. I tried to delete that message about me having problems with the pic and replace it before anyone could find it. Thanks a lot though. If it doesn't work for anyone else, I suggest trying the link again later. It worked for me after 3 tries

I think this is probably the reason Andy Panda is SO underrated:
Universal thinks Andy is a Mickey Mouse ripoff
There I said it. I've seen one image where Andy looked like Mickey ALOT, but come on! Not every character who wears shorts is like Mickey. In fact, Mickey even got a little violent once in a while (take "Symphony Hour" for example).

I have never heard of Sourpuss, nor have I heard of the Fox and the Crow. What studios were they from?

Fox and Crow were from Columbia, where Tashlin developed them after leaving WB. They were a big inspiration on Chuck Jones for the Road Runner and Coyote.
Sourpuss was a Terrytoon, often teamed up with Gandy Goose. I don't know much about them.
