View Full Version : Can we stop worrying about Spoilers for ROTJ

I mean it's been a year now. If anyone on this board hasn't seen it, they're probably not going to.

My reason is that I was thinking about starting a new thread about it, but couldn't think of way to name the subject without giving a spoiler. And now I've forgotten what the subject was myself.

I just think there's got to be a limitation on it. It's kind of impractical to keep doing it forever.

What do you guys think?

It's hard to say. There are alot of foreign fans who have yet to see it, likely. Plus, maybe some of the newbies haven't got a chance. The only thing we could possibly do to find out is to post a thread, asking who has seen the movie, edited and unedited.

Stop worrying about it, for crying out loud! After six months following the release of a movie or program on video or DVD, it's open game to talk about the movie or program openly and freely. If people still havent' seen it, they need to be responsible enough to not read things about it. Heck, I purposely avoid news about shows I have yet to see (such as the Sopranos). I don't expect people to put spoiler warnings on the Sopranos because I don't have HBO. If I read about the show, I risk seeing a spoiler, so I stay away. Geez, people need to take responsiblity for their own actions anyway!

It matters not to me, but when people who haven't seen it see a post without *Spoilers* in the main subject and read it, you can bet there will be some complaining. I don't mind if you do or don't, but I agree with Cal. Use yer judgment. If you haven't seen ROTJ, then avoid the post.

One day recently, they had a trivia question on the radio that revealed a MAJOR spoiler about the most recent season of the Sopranos, and I didn't want to hear the answer, so I immediately plugged my ears and hummed! Sometimes, you just gotta know when to avoid these things.

The thing that kinda ticks me off is when studios put spoilers about their movies on the cover box art for their movie, like Planet of the Apes and V.

I feel that most people here have seen (I should know *wink*) but lets try to continue to do it as a courtesy to those who have not.

Putting *spoilers* in the subject or message is just a safe way to avoid getting a small argument started. I've seen how big foghts grew out of someone complaining they had a scene ruined for them. It's just a precaution, incase there are people who haven't seen it.

I still say a year after it's been out is fair game to talk about it freely, and to not have to worry about it. I don't know if I should comment about people who would actually argue over seeing a spoiler when reading about something they had never seen before, in case I sound offensive. Let's just say, it reminds me of the old addage, let the buyer beware. I didn't want to know anything about the Phantom Menace before I saw it so I purposely avoided reading about it before I saw the movie. If I was to read something, and came across something that spoiled it for me (of course, that's different, because that was before the movie opened and we are talking about movies that have been out a year plus) then that was my own fault. I wouldn't blame the writer.

So how long do you say that we should warn of spoilers in such posts? I say after six months it's fair game, others on this site are saying, hey a year is ok, but some others seem to say keep doing it. So when is the cut off time? Thirty years from now, am I going to have to worry about a spoiler alert because a kid born after the movie came out may not know anything about it?

It has been seven months since the movie was released, so it should be fair game I suppose. While putting *SPoilers* is just a nice precautionary measure, I guess we don't really need to have iot anymore. If people are still trying to see ROTJ, they could just be waiting to see the unedited. I suppose putting *spoilers* in ROTJ posts is optional now.

I think if you're refering to "spoiler warnings" as Croc is, then yeah we can ease off. It'll be less stressfull to the poster, that's for sure!

But otherwise I don't see what's wrong with a small bit of courtesy such as the sentence before the information saying "Spoiler below". It doesn't have to be as covered and hidden as a government conspiracy. That's not neccessary, especially with ROTJ per example because it's been out for so long.

Yeah, easing off it would be a good thing. I say about 99% of us have seen it, maybe all of us, but there may be the odd newbie who hasn't. A little courtesy can't hurt sometimes, incase.

Huh, seems like longer than that for some reason.

Cool, I'm glad you guys feel like we can ease off on the warnings. Now if I could only remember what I wanted to start a thread about...

Yeah, its cool that we were able to get to this conclusion pretty mature -- Another cool thing about these boards. :) As for your topic....hmmm...was it Tim Drake/Joker related?

I agree with Calhoun 100%! If the movie has been out for over 6 months, then spoil it away....oh..and BTW-Darth Maul gets cut in half in Episode 1, and Qui Gon Jinn gets a whole sliced through him!

And like Croc said..if they haven't seen it yet..then they probably don't want to or care to. REAL batman fans would've seen it anyway! Or died trying!
