View Full Version : What DC character has been the most poorly used as of late?

This is one of those though call questions. DC has done some really great things lately. look at the rebirth of Green Arrow. The rise of the JSA. Even the semi interesting redemption of Hawkman. But they have also really made a mess of a few of their heros. The angst ridden PowerGirl has got to go. It get's old fast. JLA seems to be declining in quality. But the biggest tragedy of the last decade has to be Green Lantern. No I am not going to launch on a Kyle bashing exercise here. I think he has become a fairly good Lantern. Not as good or as interesting as Hal was, but then again it took 30 years for Hal to get there:) But thats the crux of it, it's how DC handled Hal. They know they screwed it up, we know they screwed it up, now if they would just admit it. Hal is still showing up half the time in Spectre dressed as GL and the same way in the GA book. Hal needs redemption. I'll be damned if for the next 30 years he rots off in purgatory as the Spectre. He's better than that. With the possible return of the Corp, can't we find a place for Hal??????
So who do you think has been given the short shrift by DC???

Hal definitely, but I think there are a lot of characters that seem to get the short end of the stick. I like all of DC's macabre heroes like The Creeper, Phantom Stranger, original Spectre, and Deadman. Deadman is the only character that has an ongoing series as of late, but I picked up a few issues and found the stories to be really dull. Creeper needs more exposure! He's such an outrageous character. the old Steve Ditko/Charlton characters need their own monthly, like a showcase book or something.

Hawkman. Don't ask why, it's just Hawkman.

I agree with Hal Jordan being DC's biggest mistake as of now. Making him the Spector was a great idea, but they have done horrible marketing for his series. I have collected comics for ten years or so now, and in that time I've seen plenty of series coem and go. However, it's not often when a favorite character of mine gets a sereis and I don't hear about it until rumors are it's being cancelled. Thatw as the case with Hal Jordan, Spector. Make him a GL again, have him join the JSA, DC just has to do soemthing to save him from mediocrity.

The Shadow
I for one like the macabe superheros of DC.
But I wondering where's the Shadow??
I read his DC book as a kid, what ever happened to him, and why don't they do a revamp of him or maybe a New Shadow. Afterall they have a new Crimson Avenger in JSA so why not the Shadow only done Veritgo style. I bet the Shadow could scare the pants of the criminals of Gotham, he's old school.

I think the character of Hal Jordan is one of the greatest tradgedy stories out of any from the DCU. Is the storyline/character screwed up because he isn't GL any more? I mean he was the Greatest of all Green Lantern's like, forever...and finally in the '90's they felt it was time for a change. All that power could drive even the strongest of wills to break...He lost everyone when coast city was destroyed and he lost it...Parallax, Zero Hour, The Final Night were all in my opinion fantastic ideas and stories...then picking up in the GL series with his funeral, Emerald Knights was a great storyline with Hal...Then of course Day of Judgement and his being chosen to be the Spectre to redeem himself. A great way to bring him back to the DCU in a fresh new way. His costume at times resembles his GL garb because in the Spectre series Hal is having a tough time seperating the physical world with the spiritual world and what he truly is capable of...he is still trying to find his way as the Spectre. Besides GL will always be a part of Hal and it always cool to see him like that. I love what they are doing with him and I think Hal is one of the Greatest characters and stories in the DCU.

Firestorm.
As for The Shadow, I think DARK HORSE owns the rights to that right now.
