Why do they edit the part where Spike gets hit by lightening? I checked my almost uncut copy of the cartoon and he is NOT in blackface. He's just, um... black.

I saw a strange version on CN UK the other day.
It had the lighting "Blackface" joke cut and also the bit after the rich man and Spike get blown up and are in Blackface,BUT when Spike goes into the burning house they held spike being black for a very long time, then as soon as he opens his mouth and eyes to be in "Blackface" they suddenly cut to the next scene.

Is that like the version they show on CN USA?

Yes, that's the way they show it here. They didn't freeze on Spike, but all they did to the scene was to remove Droopy's very offensive line: "Hey, blackie! Any more babes in there?" That's why the fade out seems so real, because it IS real! I think there's an audio clip of it at Tex Avery.com (http://www.texavery.com/).

I personally think the editing of Droopy's line to Spike is just retarded! If you watch real closely, you can see the edit after Droopy opens what's left of the cabin door and Spike gives a look of puzzlement.

One can only imagine how bad the edit would be if these cartoons were edited from the original film and not on video!
