I saw in someone's sig "Kevin Smith 19XX - 2002 You will be missed"

I wasn't sure, by then SGC2C repeated the ep with him as a guest, was this a tribute?

So is Silent Bob dead? Anyone have any concrete info?

Yes, the man who played Ares on Hercules was also named Kevin Smith. He is the man who recently passed away.

That was mine, sorry i didn't mean to alarm anyone.

His full name was Kevin Tod Smith, he was a New Zealand actor and rock star who played Ares on Xena and Hercules.

He does gets mistaken for "Silent Bob"

The actor died while filming a movie in China. He fell and suffered severe head wounds. He survived the fall, but pass on ten days later.

He was only 38 years old, and was set to play a major role in Bruce Willis's new movie called "The Man of War"

He is survived by his wife and his three sons. And his fans in The USA and New Zealand.

It's a great pity that everyone's intital gut reaction (including myself!) is relief when they realise that Kevin 'View Askew' Smith isn't dead - no one means to by implication deem, Kevin 'Xena' Smith's demise as being more trival, it's just that gut shock reaction.

It's unfortunate to live in the shadow of another name. Especially as I had a strong admiration for Kevin 'Gary Cole' Smith's work (he looked like Gary IMO!).

He played his role in Xena with a perfect balance of comedy and malice. Great shame.

Talking about this reminded me of something very sad that happened on some of the DejaGoogle newsgroups in rec.arts.comics. Someone just posted a thread titled "Kevin Smith dies", and instantly fans of the filmmaker & comics writer started accusing the guy of being a troll. Then they expressed relief that is was only the Kevin Smith from Xena who'd died. Pretty cold blooded.

Mr. Smith was a young man, and he was talented. He could've done very well in life. His death was a shame. To openly express gladness that he's dead and someone more popular isn't is just icy.

Just wanted to share that experience.

Reminds me of when Doug Lewellen died, people thought John deLancie had died, because the headlines all said "Q dead"

Except that the Star Trek Q is alive and (we presume) well.

Indeed, He was only 38 and was dubbed The next Russel Crowe.

He was a great actor, (and I heard this from the people from xena,) that he was a great father figure, and a gentleman.

You all know the saying "God broke the mold when they made him or her" That's how they describe him. (and for party guys out there, he could drink anyone under the table, but he would always made sure that everyone made it home safely home.)

(It's stills saddens me that he is gone, I hoped one day I was to meet him at a xena convention, and I'll never get the chance.)

Those are the kind of people who I have no respect for. If you can't show respect for someone at a time like that, then don't expect me to show you any respect...period.

People need to realize that "Kevin" and "Smith" are very common names...and shouldn't rush to judgement and think that "Kevin Smith" is automatically going to be the Kevin Smith of Clerks/Mallrats/etc. fame.

If you go to imdb.com and type in "Kevin Smith" you get:

38 'name' matches were found among these occupations:
Actors (13 names)
Directors (2 names)
Writers (2 names)
Editors (2 names)
Producers (2 names)
Other Crew (12 names)
Second Unit Directors or Assistant Directors (2 names)
Production Managers (1 name)
Art Department (1 name)
Visual Effects (1 name)

The number of actors with the name of "Kevin Smith" should be enough to tell anyone that they need to broaden their horizons and not always "assume" anything.

Sorry...I'm kinda catty this morning...I really don't mean to offend anyone. It's just a pet peeve of mine...

Yeah, all of his work was in New Zealand. I just got to see him as a self centered god of war.
