Since we recently had a vote for our favorite cartoon cat, I thought it would be fitting to have one for our favorite cartoon dog.

Note that I am referring to DOMESTICATED dogs only! So Wile E. Coyote and the like do not count.

I'm not doing this in the form of a poll because there are TOO MANY dogs to be considered for this.

My favorite is the Barnyard Dawg from the Foghorn Leghorn series. Others that I like are: Charlie Dog, Mark Anthony, Sam the sheepdog, and Odie. :)

Hmm, favorite dog, and they don't have to be of the "caninus domesticus" species? OK:

Wile E. Coyote
Marc Anthony
Barnyard Dawg
Fauntelroy Fox (of The Fox & Crow)
That Russian Dog from HARE RIBBIN'
Wolfie (from the Famous Studios cartoons)

There's probably more, but I just can't think of any at the moment. ;)

Droopy has to be my favorite cartoon dog.

But some other favorites are Butch, Auggie Doggie & Doggie Daddy, and Muttley.

My favorite is that brown dog named Charlie from those Porky Pig cartoons. :)

Willoughby -- both the fat and thin versions.

Memorably dumb Tex Avery voice, beautifully animated reaction shots (mostly by Bob McKimson) and the tag line from "Of Fox and Hounds," his debut cartoon, "Which way did he go, George?" went on to be one of the most used lines in Warner history.

My favorites are:

Wile E. Coyote
Ralph Wolf
Sam Sheepdog
The hunting dog in FOXY BY PROXY
McWolf (in Droopy & Dripple)

Well, if you're going with the dog family in general, definitely Wile E. Coyote. But just generic dog, as in man's best friend, I really like Charlie Dog. Also K-9 (Marvin Martian's dog) and Cartoon Network's "Courage the Cowardly Dog".

Well, we know who my favorite cartoon dog is, but I won't say it here or he'll get dissed again. Some others I like are Charlie Dog, Sam Sheepdog, Snoopy, Dino (I realize he's really a dinosaur but they have called him a dog on the show), I'll let you know if I think of more.

Charlie Dog, without a doubt. I REALLY wish Chuck Jones could have made more cartoons with that character (particularly with Porky; I always enjoyed the Porky/Charlie cartoons better than the Charlie solo cartoons). "Often an Orphan" is one of my favorite all-time WB shorts ("LOOK! IT'S THE TOWERS! THEY'RE FALLING!!!!"). And we all know that "Dog Gone South" has received a bit of fame lately, mostly because of its obscureness thanks to CN....

I also like Champ (from Lantz's Doc and Champ series), the genial but easily angered bulldog partner of Doc. My favorite is "Punchy Pooch" in which Champ is entered into a boxing match versus a fighting kangaroo who does NOT fight fair...

And I can say I also like Muttley, Dick Dastardly's "s******ing" canine partner from Wacky Races voiced by the late, great Don Messick using his "Precious Pupp" voice. I was actually asked about Muttley in school once by a fellow student who knew about my knowledge of cartoons.. he asked if I knew the name of the dog character who laughs like, "hsh-hsh-hsh-hsh-hsh", namely because the person was so good at imitating the character.

Oops! I hope nobody thinks I'm a racist trying to sneak a racial message into this board.

I noticed one of the words I used in my post was "bleeped" out by the board because its' spelling contains a word-within-a-word that is not socially acceptable in any way. That wasn't my intent. I simply meant to use a word which basically means, "a snickering kind of laughter", which Dick actually used once when he was upset at the mongrel, "Stop that s.....ing!". I'm really embarrassed about this! Could you forgive my faux pas?

I'll pick any cat over any dog, but if I had to pick a favorite dog, I'd pick Odie, closely followed by K-9 and Swanky (Sheep's poodle girlfriend on Sheep in the Big City).

Oh, yeah. I forgot about Odie! It's funny how dumb he is!

Charlie gets the edge, but you gotta love that Shakespearean hound from the Goofy Gophers flicks.

And then there's Pluto.
