Well, nobody's posted LNB&W yet, so I will:

"We're In The Money"
(WB-MM / 1933 / Rudolf Ising)
"Plumbing Is A 'Pipe'"
(Paramount-Popeye / 1938 / Fleischer)
"The Candid Candidate"
(Paramount-Betty Boop [TV title "Grampy" / 1937 / Fleischer) with NTA closing title
"The Winning Ticket"
(MGM-Captain & the Kids-formerly sepiatone / 1938 / no director credited*)
"The Spinach Roadster"
(Paramount-Popeye / 1936 / Fleischer)
"Porky's Road Race"
(WB-LT-fat Porky head title / 1937 / Frank Tash {lin})

*Didn't somebody establish here a while back that this one was Friz Freleng's?

I was dissapointed when I saw that "Porky's Road Race" was edited. I'd really like to get an uncut B&W copy of that one. :(

Yeah, I just quick-scanned through these after noticing it wasn't posted -- the folks wondered why I suddenly got off the 'puter!

No, Thad, there are adults today who wouldn't recognize Stepin Fetchit...

Still, "We're in the Money" might be my favorite old-time Warner tune AND toon...and
even for a sucky PD tape, "Candid Candidate" is good as later Fleischers go.

Very appropriate that this one aired on the same night as Toonheads' "Hollywood Nights", what with all the celebrity caricatures. I've noticed a caricature of a tall prunefaced old woman in this short, as well as "Paging Miss Glory" (doing a fandance) and "Cuckoo-Nut Grove"...and in modern WB shows, she played a teacher on a field trip on Tiny Toon Adventures (the same episode also used Tex Avery's flame from a George and Junior short). Who is she supposed to be, anyway?

I also like the scene in the "The Spinach Roadster" where Bluto rearranges a road sign and sends Popeye off on a rocky road...only to have it backfire when the car knocks a rock loose from the cliff that falls on his head and shatters.

The lady driving the winning car in "Porky's Road Race" is Edna Mae Oliver. She's also Mel Standish's love interest in "The Hardship Of Miles Standish".

I think she was a popular radio personality in the 20s and 30s, plus she had a sporadic acting career. The only movie I know for sure she was in was the first version of "Little Women".

Hey, Larry, what cartune is your avatar from?

It's a (fixed-up) piece from the great Dick Lundy Lantz cartoon, "Apple Andy" (fixed-up because the devil wasn't standing by that tree in the original- I moved him there to make a better avatar). I chose that pose because it came from a fantastically animated sequence done by one of my favourite animators, Emery Hawkins.

The cartoon has a catchy jingle too!!

...and once again, I have to be the one to say...

"...and still, no Bosko, no Buddy. The crisis continues."

Well, the war stuff obviously...:(

What I don't get is, how hard is it to just un-colorize the computer-colored stuff?

The real B&W of Puss 'n Booty must be flat-out lost. Sad.

I was going to call you on some of this list, John, but now even I'm not that sure....

How bizarre is it that they showed "Porky's Road Race" edited on LNB&W, but less than 24 hours earlier, they showed the colorized version UNCUT on the Looney Tunes Show!?

As for "un-colorization", I guess it could be done, [it can be done as simply as turning down the color setting on your TV], however the resulting shades of black, white & grey are not necessarily going to be the same as the ones the artists originally chose when they made the cartoons.

"A Cartoonist's Nightmare," "The Fire Alarm," and "Hollywood Capers" were never shown either. They may not have been released in 1936, but, they're Beans cartoons and one of them has a cameo from Porky.

BTW, I think they should air "The Phantom Ship" unedited - if they ever air it.

It was nice to finally see the B&W version of Porky's Road Race . Edits don't bother me.

As for the Betty Boop cartoon (The Candid Candidate), that must be the worst print of a Betty Boop cartoon that Cargoon Networm has ever aired. It looks like it was raining (literally) through the whole cartoon!

Maybe you saw the B&W version of Naughty Neighbors on The Bob Clampett Show some time ago. That was probably where the version was shown!

It was very good to finally see "Porky's Road Race" on LNB&W, but I was disapointed to see it edited, they do air the color verison uncut.

We won't see the unaired Beans cartoons, the Indian stereotype cartoons, the wartime cartoons, or any other potentially offensive ones. We can also forget about the one-shots. And they will forever annoy us with the redrawns.

These might air before 2049 (the DVD year, 48 years from now)
Porky the Wrestler
Rover's Rival
Porky and Daffy
The Daffy Doc
Naughty Neighbors
Slap Happy Pappy
The Timid Toreador
Porky's Preview
The Henpecked Duck
Porky's Pastry Pirates
Who's Who in the Zoo
The Impatient Patient

How is Beans offensive? CN already showed three of them.

I thought some of the gunfire scenes were edited or something like that.
I think I'll have to check on the censored cartoons page.
I think I'm thinking of the edited version of "Gold Diggers of '49" Nick used to show.

Well what do ya know about that!
I just check the Censored Cartoon Page and
I found out there were NO edits in "Viva Buddy!"

I remember seeing "Viva BUddy" when it aired on Nickelodeon in the late '80s/early '90s. I'm sure that today's audiences would find the Mexican stereotypes offensive(either that or CN doesn't have the won-tons to broadcast it!)

I do remember that Billy Bletcher provided the voice of the heavy, though.

Actually, the most offensive thing about "Viva Buddy" was the ending they came up with. Thank God Schelsinger hired Avery a few months later.

Don't expect Cargoon Networm (CN) to broadcast any Buddy cartoons, whether they contain stereotypes or not.

The fact that they haven't aired the remaining Beans cartoons yet is a sign that they don't like them. (I can hardly wait to get them on tape in a few weeks)

CN probably isn't airing the Bosko and Buddy cartoons because they're being restored for DVD.

WB could send CN some masters, but why should they search for old analog masters when they're spending money on restoration and remastering.

Notice that CN hasn't aired any new Dubbed versions since the Tex Avery marathon?

Puss N' Booty is not lost...CN obviously hasn't gotten the B&W or computer color versions yet from WB. After all, they can only air what WB sends them.

WB has been restoring the cartoons since 1998(perhaps longer) (Mainly 1930-1948 releases) and is starting to remaster them for high-definition airing.
