why "Scrub Me Mama with a Boogie Beat" and "Pantry Panic" are the only Lantz cartunes in the public domain? Possibly because the first one's the most racist (out of the ones I've seen) and the second's the most goriest? Just a thought, since most studios have at least 5 cartoons in the public domain.

...for Lantz stuff to return to CN, or someplace, so what's P.D. or not is less of a concern, but not completely forgotten.
Still, your point is well taken. I expected waaaay more of Lantz' work to be P.D.

There's also ONE more thing I've noticed about the Lantz cartunes. Isn't it sorta obvious that the Lantz cartunes were available on video when Walter Lantz was actually LIVING? And all of a sudden, they stopped putting them on video after his death (with the exception of the A&C tapes)? Hmmmm.......

--you'd think with a racist or gory cartoon and public domain, it would be the opposite. I haven't seen "Scrub Me"--what makes it racist and why wouldn't it be outright banned or on a "twelve naughties" list like "Coal Black"?

"Scrub Me Mama with a Boogie Beat" takes place in a southern town, called LAZY TOWN. A sexy black girl comes off a Mississippi boat, and shows how to live their life with more rythm. Many black stereotypes abound, including watermelon and cotton gags and references to Harlem.

The singer in "Scrub Me Mama" is Lena Horne. She was a popular vocalist from about the mid-thirties (Soggy, you could confirm this one?).
However, you can't really call this one not readily available because of its stereotyping because there are WAY WORSE ones from Lantz out there- try "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" for racist jokes and caricatures in bad taste...... (even if the musical score is totally "on the level").

Why are Lantz CARTOONS always spelled the wrong way? (I've seen them spelled as "cartunes" on the TTTP.) Is that some sort of title, or is it your preference?

That's what they were called, see:

It is just a funny spelling, like "Merrie" and "Looney".
