Yeah, but even that's not set in stone. Green Arrow and the Atom killed Darkseid in the JLA's Rock of Ages storyline and J'onn drove him into the heart of the Source in the pages of Martian Manhunter.

It can be done, but traditionally Orion is going to do it.

True, but after Green Arrow and Atom did their duty, Darkseid was still kinda alive (tho braindead) when Orion set off the Genesis Box, so Orion did deliver the final blow. If the JL was willing to kill him(they don't seem to have much of a problem with that nowadays), I think they might have the ability and capacity to do it, especially if Superman lets loose again.
