Hmm...this AH looked like it had many themes tied into one. The first 3 cartoons had a "Bully/Mean Bulldog" themed, the 2 cartoons after had a "Popeye/Jeep" theme, then a Tom and Jerry Duckling theme (him again? Don't they show him enough on the "Tom and Jerry" show?). Then two back to back cartoons with the short-lived character Dodsworth, and finishes off with a Popeye and Pappy theme.

All the WB cartoons shown tonight were directed by Robert McKimson. Let's hope that was enough of his cartoons and we won't see them tomorrow at 9:30 PM...

Now that you mention the duck, Porkyanddaffy, well, I do recall many posts sent in by people who grew tired of the duck in Tom & Jerry. Sometimes I get tired of him too, but to each his own.

For the record...the duck in Tom & Jerry is called "Yakky Doodle". He got his own series of Hanna/Barbera cartoons for television in the 1960s.

Personally, my favorite "Yakky Doodle"/Tom & Jerry short is "The Vanishing Duck".

I thought that the theme was "Rarely-used characters." Eugene the Jeep, Pappy, Dodsworth & the Kitten, the T&J duck (According to Cartoon Orbit, his name is Little Quacker. While he has the same voice as Yakky Doodle, and looks similar, he is not the same duck...I'm sure there would have been definite lawsuits from MGM. A mild difference is Yakky has green wings.), McKimson's Cat...Although the Prof. from The Hole Idea only appeared that one time, at least so far as I can remember, maybe that's enough to count him?

Now that I think about it, I guess Little Quacker isn't really a "Rarely-used character":) Maybe "Special Guest Characters" would be a better way of putting it.

It's on as I type--and, uh, confidentally, um...[inhales deeply, then hollers into Elmer Fudd's ear]...that's gotta be the most dodgy-sounding title I ever hoid in my life, doc! ;)

Yeah, while *very* similar and one obviously inspired the other, Yakky Doodle and the Tom & Jerry duck are "technically" two different characters. I have seen the T&J duck referred to on Tom and Jerry merchandise as both "Quacker" and, more recently, simply "The Duckling".

Well,

No matter what the arguement (and it's a good one), both ducks (T&J and Yakky) have one thing in common...they were both created by Hanna-Barbera. And here's another irony of ironies...both are now owned by WB/Turner! How about them apples?

P.S. I always thought the T&J duck and Yakky were the same. Oh, well, no one's perfect...

In the T&J game, Mouse Hunt, the duck is called "Ducky".

I've seen a Little Golden Book from the 1950's titled "Tom and Jerry Meet Little Quack". And an "MGM Kartoon Karnival" poster called him "Lucky Ducky".

Wow, how can a duck have so many names?

Rating: 5.2 of 13. Most of these are commonly seen. Only the themes saved it a little.
