Just wondering...
I noticed in some of the later Scooby Doo series, they only had Shaggy, Scooby, Daphne, and the infamous Scrappy. Why'd they get rid of Freddy and Velma? Anybody know? That kinda messed things up.

Well at first they got rid of Daphne too. They thought that Scrappy, Scooby, and Shaggy were the only ones people liked. Later they decided that their female viewers dropped, so they brought Daphne back. According to the storyline, Velma had gone to work for NASA, Freddy has a new career too bu I can't remember what it is, and Daphne is a reporter for a teen magazine.

I don't know but I HATE Scrappy. I kind of like the ogirinal "Where Are You", "Scooby Doo Show" and "Scooby Movies", but the Scrappy series is inferior. The only episodes featuring the character that are remotely interesting are the relatively few that have the whole crew together, but when all characters other than Scappy, Shaggy and Scooby were dropped, there was no point to it. Rather, there was a great possibility for success that didn't come to fruition-the stories and bad guys were dumbed down and so were the characters. In fact, the best of the whole string of "Scrappy" shows was "The 13 Ghosts Of Scooby Doo", featuring a grown-up Daphne and Shaggy, Scooby Doo, Scrappy Doo, Vincent Van Ghoule (played by Vincent price) and a little kid named Flim-flam, because that's what his particular skill was, flimflamming people. The concept was the Scooby found a weird box, and, when warned not to open it, did so anyway, releasing the world's 13 most terrifying demons, plus 2 goofy ghosts, one a fat one and the other a skinny one with a glove-shaped head. This, too, is awful comparred to the potential it had to be fun. The last episode does not really resolve the problems, and as I recall the first doesn't do much explaining as to how these characters all met each other. My advice is...if it has Scrappy in it, AVOID IT.

The last season the whole gang was together (the first season with Scrappy), Velma's voice changed completely about halfway through the season. My theory is that her voice actress quit or was fired, thus they dropped all the humans except Shaggy. One thing that supports this is that after they brought back Daphne, Fred also reappeared off and on, but not Velma. (On the other hand, they've done 3 movies without Don Messick...)

Actually, after Fred was done away with, he only returned once: in the "Happy Birthday Scooby" episode and Velma was with him.

I didn't see that many of the later shows because I joined a Saturday morning bowling league, but Fred appeared in at least one other episode, as the director of a Christmas play.
