Since Cartoon Network won't some of our beloved Bugs Bunny cartoons unless they're ridiculously edited, I'm (as probably many of you have) searching for uncut versions of them on video.

This leads to my one question for today: has "Hare Ribbin'" been released on video with the dog "blowing his brains out" gag left intact? If so, what video is it on?

Thanks for your help, friends!

All the best,
Sammy

P.S. Is there any guide on the net that his a listing of Bugs Bunny cartoons that have been edited and are available on any video (whether it's out-of-print or not)? If so, where can I find it. Thanks again.

You can see the dog suicide version uncut on the Bob Clampett Show, I'm not sure of any videos with the Directors cut (with Bugs killing the dog) on them, though.

Also, for edit information, try Jon's Censored Cartoon pages, and for more details about videos, try the video guide. All are reachable from the mainpage of "The Unofficial Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies Page" http://www.toonzone.net/looney/ I don't know of any sites that wrap both into one (sorry).

For other videos, try the "Whole Toon" cataloge from Facets http://www.facets.org/soon.html

Actually the "directors cut" with Bugsy slaughtering the canine is found on the laserdisc Golden Age of Looney Tunes Vol. 5 (side 8).

The version of "Hare Ribbin' " with the dog taking the gun from Bugs and shooting himself was released on the video "Bugs Bunny By Each Director", video #7 in the Golden Age of Looney Tunes series.

Personally, I'd like to get ahold of Mississippi Hare with the slave scene intact. Even Goopy Gear's version had that part left out. (I found a wav of the scene, but that leaves much to the imagination.) As for it's being left out of June Bugs, wasn't there some complaint from members of this board that the only offensive part of it was the showing of slaves in the field? (If there was, this would be untrue because Bugs portrays a slave in one scene, though I have to admit I never saw the cartoon with the scene in it before, though I'd seen it on CN, I believe, with the edit. Of course, I could just be confusing titles.)

You must mean "Southern Fried Rabbit," that cartoon has the Bugs as a slave, then as Abe Lincoln scene cut out. Goopy's version of Mississippi Hare with the realistic cotton pickers is complete.

The uncut "Southern Fried Rabbit" is available on Yosemite Sam's Yeller Fever, and is a must if you want that. I found a new copy at an out of town Blockbuster for $12.99.
