MSG joins ASA in June.

I'm too tired to type out something lengthy, so come back tomorrow and I'll have the ASC and ASA schedules for June.

That is all.

Woooooooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooo!

I was hoping to see it back on Toonami, but I am just happy to see it back on Cartoon Network. Considering the new stuff coming to Toonami, Adult Swim Action probably needs MSG more than Toonami does anyway. Thanks for the info! (I knew if I held out hope long enough it would be proven to be not cancelled.)

Edit: I forgot to add: Thank you Williams St.!!!!

It's coming back!!!!!!

So now ASA will have at least something 'new' (OK, not really new but how many people saw the only incomplete run of MSG on Toonami - I saw most of it but most of ASA's audience probably didn't) every week for at least 43 weeks. Excellent news (although it'll take more than half a year to get to the unaired episodes unless they air more than one episode a week)

About damn time.

Great news to hear, best in a while. :D I wonder which show it'll be replacing? *prays for it to be Pilot Candidate*

Why poes PC feel so much like Digimon... It's nothing like it, but I think Digimon everytime the show is on!?

Now I'll actually have a chance to watch it this time.

Maybe because the main character of Digimon (Season 1) has the same voice as the main character of PC?

Actually, Pilot Candidate is a lot like Ender's Game.

And I'm glad Mobile Suit Gundam is back! Maybe it'll get the respect it deserves when viewed by adults. Is it gonna get a complete run, since it's pretty long?

MSG has Toonami edits. Too long a series to be re-editted, if you think about it.

I don't see why it would need re-editing. MSG could run on ASA unedited.

Sora Takenouchi
04-16-2002, 11:28 AM
Did Mobile Suit Gundam have anything worth editing in the first place (besides the whole death aspect)? This show did premiere in 1979. Back when seeing blood and cursing in cartoons was unheard of!(I heard anime started being the way it is today in the 1980s)

Killtacular
04-16-2002, 11:40 AM
It could run uneditted, but I doubt it's easy. It's not like Williams Street can up and go down to Suncoast, buy the DVD set, and pop it in the computer, and boom, it's on the air. That's not how it works.

ohmrbill
04-16-2002, 12:20 PM
Naw, it couldn't run completely unedited; there are a couple of nude scenes.

So, Matt, is this tentative or is it confirmed as actually happening?

And why is this thread not a sticky?

I wonder if this means that now all Gundam (with the obvious exception of G) will be Adult Swim? Or maybe just UC?

Isn't MSG like... a thousand or so episodes long? It'll take about seven years for the series to air while on ASA.

I was hoping it would come back for the Toonami Midnight Run.... ah well, at least it's back.

Killtacular

It'll take one year. 43 weeks.

Sweet! :D Now my brother won't be able to boot me off the TV when it's on!

Though I wish they'd can PC and make it two eps a week. We were able to finish Bebop quickly because of that.

Matt, is there any word on what will happen with 0083 and PC after all 13 eps are run? Or are they just going to air again? 0083 I wouldn't mind, because I love it, but PC....Well, isn't it obvious? I don't even bother to watch it any more.

Sheamon
04-16-2002, 03:33 PM
I'd figure there wouldn't be much to re-edit in the first place. I could care less about the occassional language change, but I would prefer to see Ranba Ral's actual death instead of just showing everyone's reactions, not to mention Gihren and Kacilia's as well, when they eventually reach those eps that were never aired. Oh well. Very happy to hear that Gundam is finally coming back after being so disgraced last September. Very dissappointed to hear that this is still 'Little Kid Swim'.

I agree with what someone said earlier; since it is such a long series (it'll be 2003 before we even reach the never shown on CN eps) I'd suggest removing both PC and either Gundam 0083 or Tenchi Muyo. Thats just what I want to happen, the show I think that is most likely to be replaced is 0083.

Are they keeping the origanl opening theme? It was kinda...well it is pretty corny and bad. I laugh whenever I hear it and plan to play it at my prom however is kinda throws off the seroisiness of the series.

ohmrbill
04-16-2002, 04:06 PM
Ick... I REALLY don't like the opening theme. It's bad, even for a '70's show (I like Mazinger Z's theme). Even the heavy metal remix isn't much better...

On the other side, considering all the time it took this to happen, does anyone think it was re-edited?

William C. Maune
04-16-2002, 11:21 PM
[indent]Other than a few things here and there such as the one Sheamon mentioned was there much of anything that was even edited before?

ohmrbill
04-16-2002, 11:42 PM
The only specific edits I can think of right now are:

1) Digital swimsuit on Frau when she was washing the kids

2) The scene where Haman was changing into her pilot suit seemed to have been cut short (not completely sure about this one).

3) Though that episode never aired, I'm certain Giren's death would have been edited.

Duh. That and the various language edits. <Oddly enough, the few instances of blood were unedited, when people get shot up, they bleed!>

It would be strange showing the original cheesy opening with that guy singing 'Kido Senshi Gundamo, Gundamo!' and all of the characters running and dancing around the screen. Still, I don't think it would be a good idea to show the original opening since it would take the seriousness away from the show to people whove never seen it before. I'm so glad this show came back on! I still wish a subbed version was available on DVD as my tapes of the Japanese version don't have subs.

I agree, but Gundam's theme is funny for its cheesiness. I liked the Japanese Gatchaman Ending theme. Gundam, Gatchaman, and Lupin are the only 70's anime I can stomach.

since its gonna take a year for MSG to finish, do you guys think that CN will take it out once (or if) they get new shows for ASA?

04-17-2002, 10:10 PM
Not likely, considering Yu-Yu Hakusho is going to take at least two years to finish its 115(?) episode run.

And if it's re-edite, probably not. Outlaw Star, Pilot Crapidate, and 0083 will go first.

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..... As i believe Space Cub pointed out this series was horrible. all the Main character ever did was wine or cry. i realise it was the first but thats no excuse for crappy Anime.

Then you must have skipped the second half of the series.

And frankly, I liked the fact that Amuro was a realistic character in the first half of the series until that certain event that set him straight. It set a precendent in anime that later resulted in characters such as Shinji Ikari. Feel free to stick to Dragonball Z if you want unrealistic, perfect heroes.

SpaceCub
04-21-2002, 02:28 AM
Realistic, or just plain *****-y?

Don't worry Sheamon, I plan on watching the second half. That way I can rip on the little punk twice as much

Feel free to stick to Dragonball Z if you want unrealistic, perfect heroes.

I wouldn't call Vegeta an unrealistic, perfect hero. The guy has some serious issues that make him anything but "perfect". True, Goku is perfect, but wasn't that the whole point of making him pure-hearted? And he still gets taken advantage of for it, ex. he gets sucker punched by Vegeta (and hitting a guy when his back is turned doesn't exactly go under the "Perfect" category).

Just out of curiosity, where did you see the entire MSG series?

Just out of curiosity, where did you see the entire series? Almost all of the series aired on Toonami before it was taken off due the the 9-11 incident. It was about a few months later that CN aired the final episode of the series during a late night special. There were probably a few episodes skipped in between the series but I missed part of the final episode running. From what I've seen, this series gets better as it progresses and gets more battle intensive.

SpaceCub
04-21-2002, 02:58 AM
I thought they just like stopped in the middle of the series a while back (b4 Sept 11 I thought). Did they bring it back after the first run and then cancel it again?

I'm probably missing out on something, but what the hell does Sept 11 have in common with a bunch of robots fighting each other in space?

I don't remember them ever taking it off the air before the 11th but it was a few days after the 11th that the series was replaced with some other show. I guess you could say gundam's theme, other than the fighting robots, would have been too much for the viewers.

Yes, Amuro's an idiot. Everyone knows that. So what? Amuro's not the only thing in the show. I thought we've already been through this.

But actually, I found that his whiney behavior made the series far more enjoyable than it would have otherwise been. Why? Because it made for a more interesting plot and characters. In addition to the usually good-guy vs. bad-guy conflict, you also have the conflicting personalities of the main characters. That's part of what made Gundam so popular and why it was so groundbreaking (you have to remember that back in'79, all mecha animes were little more than animated versions of Power Rangers). Without Gundam there would have likely been no Macross. No, I don't like Amuro, either; but his antics were actually pretty fun to watch (especially when he got smacked for them :p ).

Besides; if you ask me, Char's the real hero of the show.

They stopped airing it right on 9/11 with 6 episodes left. They played one again on the 12th but then switched it with Dragon Ball the next day. They also showed the final episode (without the missing 5) for New Years Eve-il. The reason they took it off was because they felt a series about a war where 50% of the human population has been wiped out wouldn't be “appropriate” at that time.

Sheamon
04-21-2002, 10:50 AM
Actually it had more to do with ratings than anything else. 9/11 was taken advantage of so they could have 2 hours of DBZ on Toonami for a month.

As for seeing the whole show, saw every episode aired when it was on Toonami and bought the final movie a month or so after the cancellation :p

ohmrbill
04-21-2002, 04:54 PM
I don't think they would have bothered to bring it back if the real reason was ratings.

DeathLord665
04-21-2002, 06:39 PM
I don't know bout that. after all they brought back reboot a couple of times and it always had bad ratings. never assume execs make sense... (after all why else would we have so many crappy animes on adult swim (I.E. Pilot Canidate))

If it was about 9/11, it would have been back on the air in a month. 8th MS Team was played a mere 3 weeks after 9/11, not to mention the fact that they had a plane in a metropolitan area about to crash on DBZ, only 3 days after 9/11!! Its on ASA because, in case you haven't figured out already, ratings aren't exactly stellar and there's no DBZ on there to replace the good shows with. :p
