[indent]I cannont stand pointless stuff like this. I just went to do my daily check of AnimeNewsNetwork.com (One of the best sites out there for anime news, edit lists and reviews, plus it is updated daily) and the news page has been replaced with the names of a bunch of hackers claiming responsibility. I realize this does not affect me all that much, I can wait another day while they clean things up to read the news, but I feel bad for those who run the site. I know I would be angry if it happened to one of my sites. It would be such as hassle to deal with on top of all the usual maintenance. It is just pointless. What did anyone ever due to the hackers to make them feel the need to mess with someone else's stuff?

Not that I'm for or against anything:
They're just evil.

I seen a thing on The Screensavers (TechTV) where they interveiwed the author of a book that was based on teenage hackers and why they do it. They kept trying to say it was for intellectual stimulation and all that, but I think it's bull.
They're just... uhg... I wish I could curse on these boards.
It makes no sense to wanna hack into a website like that. Possibly if you wanted to make a statement about something, but the organization wouldn't listen. Like, an abortion site or something. It would be kind of understandable, but still, there's better ways to get your message out there.

The "intellectual stimulation" argument holds no water. It would be intellectually stimulating to think up ways to poison people too, or to build pipe bombs.

It's simple.
If there's no blatant reason then people do it because they can. It's a show of power, nothing more, nothing less.

Somebody attacking ANN says three things to me:
1. They're not pros. Pros hack NORAD or CitiBank.
2. They're ANN readers. Few hackers even pay attention to smaller sites like that (sorry, ANN-ites...) And that means that
3. They're not adults. Adult (note: not mature) hackers would not dirty their own den by hacking a site they frequent. They know from IP addresses...
Soooo, all that means that these fools aren't even real hackers. They're a bunch of "script kiddies" who use (gasp!) WAREZ (whoa! total coolness... ) to put together their penny-ante hacks and virii.
Somebody please tell those peanuts to do something more productive, like going Goth...
