Here is a nice game to play...
All you have to do is post anything from the realm of entertainment that you think people wont/or slightly remember. Then the next person has to say that they remember it or they don't. Then that person has to post something new. The fun comes from trying to stump people and also from reliving the various stuff that people bring up. Plus you might learn something new from each other.
I'll start...
Do anyone remember the old Jackson 5 cartoon from the 70's. It had the Jackson 5 with their friends a snake and 2 mice. It was pretty bad...

Sorry, no recollection of that cartoon. Sounds like something "Boomerang" would run during their "year" weekends.
Anyone remember "Out of This World"? I don't remember how long it ran, just know it was on during the late '80s. Starred the girl that played Matt Camden's girlfriend on a few seasons of "&th Heaven". She had the ability to stop time, and her father was a diamond or something, voiced none other by Burt Reynolds.

Uh....The animated Carmen Sandiego?
Who am I kidding. I suck at this.

Fantastic Max. The adventures of a baby with a rocket ship shaped like a bottle.

Oh yea, I remember Fantastic Max. Classic cartoon, wish it was still aired!
How about the Soggmaster, and when Cap'n Crunch was missing? I still remember the ads from Archie comics!

I was one of the kids that won that! I got a $100 check! :D The reward was a million dollars spilt up amongst ten thousand kids, $100 each.
I got one of the My Pet Monsters with the cash. Not the big one, but one of the little ones that walked on all fours. He was like a puppet. Very cool. :D

Back to "Out of This World": Yes, I recall that show as an enjoyable way to kill 1/2 hour on Sunday afternoons during its original run. But I would like to know this: Did they ever resolve the cliffhanger where the mom was (I think) caught between dimensions or some such? Or did "OOTW" instead join the crowded ranks of those sitcoms with forever unresolved season-enders? Anyone?
And now to my contribution: Who remembers "Wait 'Til Your Father Gets Home," a Hanna-Barbera first-run syndicated 'toon of the early 1970s? This one featured HB's take on the dysfunctional family, threw in a right-wing neighbor who was forever seeing "Commies" under the bed, and was also great fun to watch for its two(?) seasons in first-run.
hello_lola
04-14-2002, 01:16 AM
Wasn't the neighbor named Ralph? And Tom Bosley was the voice of the dad, and Willie Aames was the son?
Anyone remember Gem? It was a cartoon with a pink-haired girl leading an all-girl band? They had their own dolls. Oh, and Gem was the secret identity for some heiress.
RogueMartian
04-14-2002, 01:36 AM
Its Jem not Gem, and yes, I remember her. I had a Jem doll when I was little and her stupid hair got messed up horribly because it had aluminum strands in it.
Anyone remember the Mysterious Cities of Gold? The kids flew around in a Giant golden condor over the Nasca plateau?

THANK YOU!!!!!!
I remember those cookies, but couldn't remember what they were called!! It drove me nuts for a long time, because i saw this chair once that reminded me of them, yet I couldn't remember what they we're called!!
No, i don't remember the mysterious cities of gold.
Remember a cartoon from the mid '80s where the kid turned into a car? I think it was "Turbo-Teen", or something similar to that.
SpaceCub

A girl I graduated with wore a "Jem" shirt because the name matched her initials.
Wait 'Til Your Father Get's home aired on CN about a year ago. It was on at like 1 am tho.
Yes, I remember "Turbo Teen" or whatever the hell it was called. It aired Sunday mornings on "USA network" with a bunch of other cartoons I can't remember. When I was little, I took my aunts lifting weights and rolled then around the floor with them in my hands saying "Look, I'm Turbo Teen!"
Anyone remember "BraveStar"? It had a cowboy with like a double gun (barrel above and below handle), a female judge who used a gavel for a weapon, and a horse who could transform from being 4 to 2 legged. The horse used a gun he called "Old Betsy"
My brother had a lunchbox with BraveStar on it, that's the only way I remember it. My lunchbox had "Sky Commander." I can't tell you much more about it than they "flew" around cayons and cliff's on zip-line. The toys were uber-cool.

"Well I won't go bottom-less, that's just naughty" -Grandmother from "Wait 'Til Your Father Gets Home"
James

Yeah, I recall Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. Hasn't been on in the UK since the 70's (that I can recall).
As for Out Of The World - I'm not sure about a cliffhanger finish - as I recall it died a shortish and silent death. I'm sure I'd have heard about such an unresolved cliffhanger.... can't say for certain.. some research methinks...
The original Godzilla cartoon is one of my favourite nostalgia points (aside from Battle Of The Planets which always hark on about). 'Up from the depths... 30 storeys high... breathing fire... his head in ths sky...!' UK Boomerang aired it again recently. Another Hoyt Curtin (BOTP and pretty much every Hanna Barbara toon) score. Great stuff. Silly and fun.
Finally, Fonz and The Happy Days gang(!) Now was that canon, eh? Mork was, so I see no reason why this wasn't!
ClarkKent
04-14-2002, 12:05 PM
I remember "BraveStarr", as well as the original Godzilla cartoon.
I think i've seen a few episodes of "Fonz and the Happy Days Gang".
How about "James Bond, Jr."? I believe the cartoon was syndicated. It had a toyline, a comic book, and a book series, which lasted 6 books.
James
04-14-2002, 12:16 PM
Little known fact regarding James Bond Jr...
The tie in novels were ghost written by John Peel, known for his work on the Doctor Who TV tie in and original novels! A fact he has since non too happily admitted!
I did say it was a little known fact, partially because it just isn't interesting...!
Dark Spider

I remember...
-The "Cap'n Crunch is missing" contest. It was back in 1994, right?
-Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? It was in 1995.
-Fonz and the Happy Days Gang. Can you believe Nick aired this for a week
-The Godzilla and Godzookie (sp?) cartoon
I also remember...
The James Bond Jr. Cartoon. It was back in 1993, and it aired in syndication. It aired on my Fox channel and it aired Power Rangers (back in its first season). It was a pretty decent show and I think it aired on CN before.
My Contributions:
-Anyone remember the Brady Kids cartoon? It stared the Brady Bunch kids in their own adventures and they sung alot. It was back in the 70's and Nick aired it for a couple of weeks back in the "Nick Afternoon's" final season (about 1998).
-Anyone remember "Volunteers" with Tom Hanks and John Candy. It was one of Tom's earlier movies and it was pretty darn funny.

In the early days of CN they aired thsi show non freaking stop.. I grew to like it and then I moved to the city and had no CN for 2 years and when I did IT WAS GONE !!
(I also remember the jackson 5 toon.. Used to like it..but then again back then I used to love a lot of weird things.)
I DO remember The Brady kids Show... I wish I didn't.

I think I remember Giggles, but vaguely.
I also have heard of some, but not all of the animated references here and there. They showed both Godzilla and Fantastic Max on CN, and I never watched them. Brave Star sounds vaguly familiar, but I can't recall it. Jem was something my sister watched, but I think we still have a sticker album of it from that long ago era. (boy did we collect a lot of sticker albums back then: Jem, Voltron, He-Man, She-Ra, various Disney movies, Transformers.....) I also remember, and admit to liking, the "Jackson 5" animated series, because it was somewhat surreal and had humor I was into at the time. (even if it was reruns on VH1) As for the "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" animated series, I remembered that for a couple of reasons. First, I watched it because I was obessed with the PBS show. (which this was nothing like) Second, it was one morning when I wanted to watch "Carmen Sandiego" on Fox Kids that they were showing a preview for a new syndicated show with a Sailor-Suited warrior girl.....
Now for my contribution: anyone remember those foamy things that went along with JELLO for some time? It was on top or something.

Remember "Camp Candy", as well as "Bobby's World". Iremember FOX Family aired both shows when it first appeared. Teddy Ruxpin I rememeber, as well the friends he had. the most prominent one i remember is the giant, yellow catapillar.
My new contribution:
Monchichis.

Yeah Teddy Ruxpin, that frankly intimidating talking bear toy. Seriously, if Chucky was to assume a form in real life, it would be Teddy Ruxpin. God, that still gives me nightmares..
Monchichis. I can't say it let alone remember that one.
ClarkKent
04-14-2002, 04:45 PM
Monchichis was a Hanna-Barera cartoon, airing on ABC in the mid '80s. It wasn't as popular as Smurfs, but was similar. They lived in the forest land, which had its peace disturbed by the shows villains. The Monchichi's had a wizard, and he always had some sort of spell to make the bad guys turn back. I also think he spouted out lots of advice.
How about "Maple Town"? I still have some of these shows on tape.

I have never heard of Maple Town .
Anybody remember Zoobilee Zoo ? It had people dressed up as different animals and they sing . I remember there was a girl as a pink cat and that was my favorite one.

Zoobilee Zoo was going to be my next contribustion!
Scary thing is, they are still around. www.zoobileezoo.com
How about Finders Keepers ? I used to love watching this show! :D
Also, still looking for anyone who remembers Maple Town .
Dark Spider
04-14-2002, 06:28 PM
I remember...
-Camp Candy (with John Candy...it used to air on Fox Family)
-Bobby's World (One of Fox Kids first shows)
I also remember:
Finders Keepers. That game show was awesome! Kids had to go searching for things around a cluttered house. It was on Nick around the late 80's. One of the best game shows to come from Nick in awhile. I wish I had Nick GAS just to watch it...
My Contributions:
-I dare someone to remember the "Littlest Pet Shop". I used to like this cartoon alot, but it lasted only a season. It was on syndication back in 1995, and I used to watch it with Transformers Generation 2.
-Does anyone remember "Special Delivery". It was a 2 hour block that used to air on Nick, on Weekend Afternoons. It used to play various cartoons, including anime, that enforce morals and other such nice things. It was back in 1993 and it was a great way to waste 2 hours on a weekend.
James

Finders Keepers rings some bells - care to give some more details?
Along side all these rather unique series, I must point to one of the most memorable from my childhood. The 80's Incredible Hulk cartoon.
Later paired with the other classic, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, this was an excellent rendidtion of the Hulk theme. Particularly the well thought out transformation sequences - weren't they cool? And the self repairing trousers - so convenient!
Anyone remember Wheelie and the chopper bunch?
Man,I never saw such a bad show.

Now for my contribution: anyone remember those foamy things that went along with JELLO for some time? It was on top or something.
I remember those! I really don't know how to explain it, but there were three layers of this Jell-O stuff, and the color of it got darker as the layers went down! I remember wanting those so bad!!
I also remember Special Delivery, Bobby's World, Zoobilie Zoo, Camp Candy, and yes, Maple Town !
Maple Town was a town with a bunch of forest creatures living there. I had all of the figurines! That show was so cool!
This is really far-fetched, but do you guys remember that show that took place at a department store? There was this guy, and when you took his hat off, he would turn into a maniquinn? (sorry about spelling) He had a red checkered hat, and the cast was made up of puppets and people. I think one of the puppets was a mouse.

I've seen it on one of the Boomerang blocks during Sat. morning. It was pretty terrible. I'm not sure where that came from. Maybe from that Herbie the Love Bug junk. Or Speed Buggy. CN made a webtoon out of it, but I don't think that it was that bad.
Finders Keepers was a Nick show that had kids running around a fake house looking for clues about where to find the next clue, I think. I don't remember it too well.

Can't resist this one (even though I should):
That was Jello 1-2-3, with "foam, sauce,

And now, a callout for everybody in the NY/NJ/PA triad:
Who recalls The Uncle Floyd Show  (also featuring Netto, Looney Skip Rooney, and a cast of dozens)?

I remember Zoobilee Zoo, Bobby's World (Uncle Ted, lol), and that Maniquin show (what was that called anyway?).
Pete And Pete would probably be on my list of top 10 fav shows. That show made me want to get a metal plate in my head.
Didn't the My Buddy come out at the same time as cabbage patch kids?
Anyone remember Hulk Hogan's cartoon? Can't remember anything about it aside from the opening credits (with like the entire city walking in the streets)
What about that show with the Koalas? One was big and the other was like his little sister or something. They always ate Eucalyptus leaves and sometimes went back to whereever they came from (which had on of those Jesus Christ lizards).
And Pound Puppies. Was that a cartoon, or just a movie?
Almost forgot Roundhouse. It wasn't a cartoon, but like a teenage version of SNL they showed on nick b4 All That.
On the subject of old shows that weren't cartoons, how about Hey Dude?

Still have my My Buddy. Actually, it is still in my room. White, brown hair. Really bad hairdo, since he laid in a box for a while. Yea, they came out around the same time as the cabbage patch dolls. Have some of them laying around as well.
Hulk Hogan's Rock 'N Wrestling!
The show with the Koalas was my last contribution, Noozles !
Pound Puppies was a cartoon, and had a movie. The legend of Big Paw, which I own on tape
Two contributions, coming out of the live-action series:
Out of Control
and
You Can't Do That on Television. Interesting tidbit: Alanis Morissette was on this show as a youngster!
Anyone remember these two?

Geez, some much nostalgia...
I remember...
-You can't do that on Televison. This was Nick's best show EVER. It started alot of Nick's trends too such as green slime.
-My Buddy. I remember this. My sister has the girl version Kid Sister. I remember the commercials for it and they were heartwarming.
-Pete and Pete. This was the coolest show ever. I can't explain why it is so appealing though. It was just weird.
-Roundhouse. This was basically All That's predessecor. It debuted with Snick back in August of 1992. It was a pretty funny show, but it only lasted about 2 seasons though. All That would eventually be superior to everything Roundhouse was though. Last time I seen Roundhouse was back in 1999 when Nick has that 20 year anniversary thing.
-Hey Dude. This show came on in 1990. I used to have mood swings with this show. One day I liked it, and then the next day I hated it. Overall, the show was average. It was about a bunch of teenagers spending the summer at some ranch, right? I'm not sure what the plot was.
-Pinwheel. I wasn't alive to see it, but I have heard alot about it.
-Funhouse. I vaguely remember that one.
My Contribution:
-Do any of you remember when MTV was just a block on Nickelodoen before it went on to be a TV network in 1981. I wasn't born yet to see it, but I have been reading up on it.
-Does anyone remember the Tommorow People? It was about a group of teens that had the ability to teleport to places they've been before. The show had 3 major story arcs and it wasn't heard from again. I kinda miss this show because it had potential. I think this show was from 1994.
-Does anyone remember Fifteen? It was Nick's high school drama. I was only a little kid when this show came on, and I used to hate it because I was to young to understand the mature plots it had. I found it extremely boring. Now I wished I could see it so I can compare it to real life...that would be interesting.

I remember Fifteen! My mom said I couldn't watch it becasue I wasn't fifteen. I used to love Salute Your Shorts. I remember the episode where Ug (the guy with the fisherman's hat) fell in love with the mail lady who delivered mail on a boat. AWFUL WAFFLES!
Do you guys remember Welcome Freshman? That was on Nickeloden too.
ClarkKent
04-15-2002, 03:51 PM
Oh man, I had forgotten about "Welcome Freshmen"! I use to love that show. Mr. Lippman told some of the worst jokes, trying to be a comedian! Merv was my favorite character.
Remember "Picture Pages", with Bill Cosby? I truely miss those.

I love this thread! I don't remember Picture Pages.
Anybody remember these educational shows: Mr. Wizard's World, Beakman’s World, Bill Nye the Science Guy , or Reading Rainbow ? Reruns of Bill Nye are on Noggin and I think Reading Rainbow is still on PBS. Mr. Wizard's World aired on Nick. Remember Kids Incorporated ? It was very similar to The Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney Channel and Jennifer Love Hewitt was in it.
On the cartoon side anyone remember The Popples or Rambo ? Game shows: Wild and Crazy Kids, Double Dare, What Would You Do?, Legend of the Hidden Temple , and GUTS
Dark Spider

Whoa, Melon's on a role...
I remember...
-Salute Your Shorts was awesome!!! I especially like the first season that had Michael in it. The second season kinda sucked with Pinski in it.
-Welcome Freshmen's first season was Nick's best show. My favorite character is Merv too. But WF's second season sucked to all hell. They got rid of Merv and the show started to resemble Fifteen.
-Mr. Wizard's World . That show was so cool, I used to wake up bright and early at 6AM just to watch it. He had some cool experiments on the show.
-Beakman's World . I never watched this show, but I know of it.
-Bill Nye the Science Guy . This show was academically nuts. Now Bill Nye works for Battlebots on Comedy Central.
-Reading Rainbow with Levar Burton. This was a decent show, even though I haven't seen it too many times.
-Kids Incorporated . I kinda never liked this show, but it was for no apparent reason. I believed that this show got in the way of quality cartoon time.
-The Popples . I rings a bell...
-Wild & Crazy Kids . The best game show. It's no wonder this show lasted for about 7 years in reruns. You could watch an episode 7 times and you'll still be entertained.
-Legends of the Hidden Temple . It was a par game show. I liked season 2 because it included interesting graphical features like an on-screen map.
-Double Dare and all its variations (Super Sloppy Double Dare, Family Double Dare, Double Dare: Tournament of Champions, Double Dare 2000), are great game shows.
-What Would You do? was an interesting game show. Anything with Marc Summers hosting is automatically cool.
-Guts is cool but Global Guts isn't very cool.
My Contribution:
-Anyone remember David the Gnome? That was a VERY cool cartoon. It used to air on Nick Jr. back in the early 90's. I wish Nick Jr. would air more stuff like that.
-Anyone remember Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? I was the successor to the popular Game show, Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Personally, I liked the latter better.
Cowgirl1855

This is what happens when I don't respond after my "1-2-3 Jello" contribution: we get a ton of cool nolstalgia!
-Zoobile Zoo was definately a show I remember. I don't know that much about it, but it was kitschy fun when I was a kid.
-I also loved both Finders Keepers. In fact, I remember when they aired on Philadelphia TV before I had Nick! (the shows were made in Philly until Nick Studios was built in Orlando. I think also the first seasons of Think Fast and Make the Grade were made here, but I don't remember)
-I vaguely remember this Hulk show from the 1980's, but not much about it. All I remember is that I have a clip from it from this thing NBC aired in the early 1980's. (some sort of awards show involving ice cream)
-I remember PinWheel from the early days of Nick! I also remember hearing of "Adventures of The Little Koala" and "The Adventures of David the Gnome", but I never watched either of them.
-I have definately heard of nearly all the live-action Nick shows, but don't remember watching that much of it. Of course I watched YCDTOT (which actually was a Canadian show I found out) and Salute Your Shorts, but never did watch Fifteen, Tomorrow People, or Hey Dude. Pete and Pete I remember a couple eps., same with Roundhouse, but not much else.
-I remember both My Buddy and Teddy Ruxpin, but never owned one luckily.
-Educational stuff I also have a recollection of. I woke up for Mr. Wizard on Nick, watched some Beakman from when it was on TLC, watched some Bill Nye here and there, and did watch some of "Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego". (although "Where in the World...." was better).
-As for that show with the mannequin, I vaguely remember a show called "Today's Special" that might of had something like that, but I can't talk about it from the top of my head.
Now for my turn: I remember a show called "The Bionic Six" from my childhood, but not much about it. Anyone heard of it?

Never heard of Bionic 6. But who rembers "Guts" on Nick?

Yes, I remember Bionic 6 as well as the obese Scarab and his henchman Monkeywrench. Good show.
Okay, I got a couple.
- Starcom: Cartoon that aired in the late 80's or early 90s about astronauts that was kinda like Star Trek and they had to battle these alien bad guys in black ships. Also had a toy line with miniature figures that had magnets on their boots. You could stick em on the fridge or lamp or whatever.
- Video Power: A show that aired early in the morning on weekdays. Had two cartoon shows and pretty much reviewed video games. One show had a bunch of reject Nintendo characters like Bigfoot, some conan looking swordsman, a guy from the NARC game, and something else. Pretty weird.
- My Secret Identity: About a kid who stumbles into his next door neighbors laser ray and gains superhuman powers. Much like a teen version of Greatest American hero.

I love this thread, it constantly has me saying "GAH! I REMEMBER THAT SHOW!"
The show with the Koalas was my last contribution, Noozles !
I wasn't sure if that's what you were talking about or not, thanks tho.
Strangely, I was thinking of Salute Your Shorts at work the other day.
Speaking of Marc Summers, did you know the guy was an obsessive compulsive (a neat freak, like the dad on "Full House" yet another old show, with Famaily Matters")? He always seemed so happy on camera, but every time something splattered on him he was like "Get this off of me..." His family sent him to counseling when they woke up at 2am to find him downstairs straightening the frills on their carpet.
Beakman's World rings a bell, can you go into detail?
My contributation, Nick Arcade (that game that put you in the video game at the end and every challenge was Pong). Did Alf have a cartoon? Also, Muppet Babies.

This thread was the best creation I ever did, so many memories!!!
I remember...
-Bionic Six. Didn't this star the Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman with some children? I vaguely remember...
-Thunderbirds. Wasn't that the one with the puppets? I remember watching it in syndication on my FOX provider back in 1993.
-The sports cartoon. I remember this cartoon. It was pretty darn funny. The hippo would always do something to the cat (i'm not sure though)
-Nick Arcade was INCREDIBLE. Best game show idea EVER! Too bad it was a kinda flop.
-The Alf cartoon is in the back of my mind. I'm not sure if there was one...
-Who doesn't remember Muppet Babbies. If it can keep a 15 year old boy entertained, then there is something about this show. I love this show to death and I wish I can watch it again.
My Contributions:
-Speaking of Marc Summers, he had a game show outside of Nick back in 1995/96. It was some kind of quiz show. It aired on syndication and if someone could provide anymore info on this show, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
-Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. This show had some cool morals on it. Anyone remember it?
-Anyone remember some old educational show that aired with Mr. Wizard's World on Nick? It talked about Space and featured Rockets and NASA stuff.

It wasn't the Million Dollar man and the Bionic woman, but they were kinda like that.
Infact, they were alot like a Sentai Team.
They had wrist thingies and rings. When they punched their rings into their wrists, they're close would change.
They'd look exactally the same, but with different cloths and somehow no one could see through their secret identities.
But, so went the fun cheese of the 80's.
Who here remember the 80's action cartoons "The Spiral Zone", "Galaxy Rangers" and Nick's "You Can't Do That on Televison's" predeccesor, "Turkey Televison?"

-Lassie and Dennis the Menace. Nick used to show these around 5:30 and 6AM on Weekends. Flipper used to air with them.
-Eureeka's Castle. Loved this show. It came on Nick Jr. awhile ago as summer filler.
-Fraggle Rock. I'm indifferent about this show. No opinions here.
-Under the Umbrella Tree. This was a decent show. Reminded me of Lamb Chop a little with the 3 puppets and a mother. Actually the mother reminded me of my Kindergarden teacher a little.
-Stunt Dawgs. I watched this along with G.I. Joe a LONG time ago.
-Mr. Bogus. It had animation along with claymation inbetween segments. It had a very cool catchy theme song.
-Princess Gweniviere. It used to air along with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round.

I thought of another show I used to love, The Dinosaurs .It was live-action with people in costumes and it was about a family of dinosaurs. The Baby was amusing with it's constant 'Not The Mama!' name from the father... the grandma was quite cool too. I recall it seemed to share many similar story traits as the Simpsons - there was a tiny jab at the show on the Simpsons in one episode I recall...

OK, one more try ... isn't there anyone here who remembers The Uncle Floyd Show? He was even syndicated for a short while in the early '80s, fer gawshsakes! Sort of a "Dr. Demento Meets Howdy Doody" hybrid, and that's the best possible way I can explain it. And Uncle Floyd, on piano, made "Deep in the Swamps of Jersey" (yes, sung to the tune of that better-known Texas tune) a state anthem, of sorts.

OK, you guys have me stumped. I don't remember 95% of the TV shows and movies that has come up in this thread! That might have something to do with the fact that 90% of these TV shows and movies mentioned came from Nickelodeon, a channel I very rarely watched.
I think my brain must reformat its hard drive every now and then to edit out anything I wasn't devoted to. (Wait! It still does!) :D
I've never watched much TV. When I was a kid, I went straight for "The Transformers" and "G.I. Joe", with only a few exceptions. Otherwise I was playing my NES, or outside. :D
I do remember "Hey Dude" though -- one of the only two shows on Nickelodeon I ever watched! I remember thinking, "Chirstine Taylor is gorgeous..." She still is! (Can you believe she married Ben Stiller? Oh well, it's a free country.) The only other Nickelodeon show I watched was "Clarissa Exlpains It All" -- and for a similar reason: Melissa Joan Hart was cute (and still is!).
I only have vague memories of Galaxy Rangers, Bionic Six, and Turbo Teen. I can remember watching those shows from time to time. I am aware of The Muppet Show, Muppet Babies, and Fraggle Rock, but I don't remember them ever being on TV in my area (maybe I was outide then? LOL).
I remember MTV's Liquid Television when I was high school. I can remember finding the randomness of the show interesting, but many of the "shows within the show" I just found strange, if not disturbing. But, did you know? "Beavis & Butt-Head", "The Maxx", and "Aeon Flux" made their first appearances on Liquid Television.
Now, for my contribution...
Does anyone remember "Centurions" and "Visionaries"? I used to LOVE those shows, and had most of the toys. I can remember as a kid thinking that only "Centurions", "Visionaries", "Galaxy Rangers", and "Bionic Six" were "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" quality shows. :D
How about "Count Duckula"? I don't remember what channel it was on, but I remember it being a British cartoon.

Fraggle Rock aired on The Disney Channel originally. And Count Duckula was on Nick.
Plus, all three of the movies I mentioned (Garbage Pail Kids , The Monster Squad , and The Peanut Butter Experiment ) were not Nickelodeon movies. I know for a fact the first two got theatrical releases in the '80s. I've heard The Peanut Butter Experiment comes from Canada.
I remember Centurions and Visionaries , as well as M.A.S.K.

I agree, kid's TV was great in the 80's and early 90's. We had all the classic Nick shows, Disney afternoon cartoons (Darwing Duck, Tale Spin , etc), and great 80's cartoons for boys and girls. Kid's today have Barney, Teletubbies, Pokemon and all the clones, and bad shows on Nick and Disney. There are still some great cartoons, but most of them just don't compare to the old days. Kid's should watch Toon Disney and Noggin for some classic Nick shows and Disney cartoons.

Sorry if some of these have already been brought up, but this thread is huge and I kinda started on this page.
I'm glad I'm not the only golden oldie here. :D Anyway, I saw someone mention Mysterious Cities of Gold. This is the best cartoon I have ever seen. The golden condor, Solaris the ship, the Olmecs and the city of Gold. I think this show deserves a thread all to it self.
Anyway, do any of you remember Staunt Dawgs? This was one of my favorite shows and I found that most people either loved it or hated it. It was about two stunt teams, the Staunt Dawgs (good guys) and the Stunt Scabs (bad guys) Richard P Fungus was my favorite character, he was the evil Directator and leader of the Scabs. The show was just crazy and they had awsome vehicles and weapons like barf bombs loogie launchers. :lol I hope I'm not the only one that watched this. :)

I heard Marc Summers talk about his OCD on Howard Stern. He said every time he got pied or slimed, he was screaming inside. I immediately flashed back to the end of every show, when Robin would force him to do something messy and he would jokingly resist, but always end up covered in something. It was funny at the time, but now ... it's just sick.
No one has mentioned the Saturday morning beauty known as The Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys. This show starred Eliza Schneider, a trio of amazing live sea-monkeys, and of course, Howie Mandel as the Professor. Back in the day, there wasn't CN, you couldn't just turn on the TV and be gauranteed to see cartoons 24/7. There was always something so satisfying to wake up bright and early on a Saturday morning, eat some cereal, relax from the break in school, and watch cartoons. Ah, that is so true.
Okay, here's a question for you, and it's had my mind totally racked for the past...7 years or so...
Does anyone remember this show that appeared on Nickelodeon along side David the Gnome and Koalawala Land (I was gonna ask about that show too, but thankfully that mystery has been solved)?
It was like a fairy tale show and I'm pretty sure that it was an anime.
The thing I remember most about it was the ending had this little girl in a dress flying through the forest. I can barely remember one of the stories in one of the episodes (I'm not even sure if it was this show) but the story was something like a king inviting all these women, yet he invited everyone except for this one witch, which was a mistake because that witch got revenge on the king and his castle? And I think they solved it by setting a plate for her at the dinner table or something and they accepted her at the feast/party.
That may not be the plot of that episode exactly, but I know it had those elements. Again, that was only one of the episodes...
Anywho, I really loved this show. Granted, it may be kidsy and out of my age range now, but the show was such a nostalgic trip, I loved it.
And one more question:
This show also appeared on Nick and it also had to do with gnomes. It wasn't David the Gnome, but it was sort of Smurfish in its storyline: All these gnomes living in a small woodsy village. I can't remember as much as the other show that I'm trying to remember. Actually, I think I liked that show better than the Smurfs...and I think it was anime also. Though don't hold me to that.
Wow, so many memories. x.x

The answer to Nick at Night's question is Grimm's Fairy Tales. I loved this show, but didn't know it was anime though.
Anyone remember Papa Beaver's Story Time? It was another fairy tale show that aired on Nick Jr around 1996/97. It featured Papa Beaver reading a fairy tale to 3 small beavers (2 boys and 1 girl). The show was pretty neat.
I remember Mummies Alive!, the stupid TV show based on the toy line. The best part about that show was the theme song, it was very catchy.

Garfield and Friends was one of the first toons I remembered to love. It was very funny, and actually kept to the Garfield world, the only major difference being Penelope instead of Arlene. The TV-only chars like Cactus Jake and Swindler were excellent, and the meta-humor even more so.
TMNT. Action. Show that actually had some plot. And was really the thing that got me into the TMNT in the first place. Oh yeah. :D
Histeria! THIS show, my friends, stands out a lot. It was what led me into message boarding, saved my history grade *yes, it did*, and was just as magical as te other Silver Age toons. I shall never forget it.
-----
It's a pity, as many mentioned that cartoons in terms of Saturday morning and that the old innocence seems to be gone. I myself can't imagine most toons today being talked about the way we talk of the ones in this topic....most can't stand the test of time.
But an interesting note: most shows mentioned are also ones with merchandising albility, like my own Garfield and TMNT. Maybe it's becase they were already giants that we remember them? I know in part that's my reason.
Point 2: Many of these shows were also before animation gained something of a respectability again....many, admitedly, are a bit preachy and moral-filled, and occasionally just last a season. Look at today's toons, animation seems to be an art form again...and compare them with some of the ones said in the topic. Difference, no?
But that's my opinion. ^^;;

I looked more into the show The Littles to see if it was indeed this gnome show I was looking for.
It's not the one though, the one I'm looking for had (I guess) the same kind of premise, and that all the villagers wore hats. I'm thinking that the main characters had blue hats. It's boogling my mind worse than anything at this point. x.x
-----------------
And getting back to the other one that told the fairy tales in anime format: It looks as if that's the show, but I guess I can't be too sure. My ONLY real rememberance of that show was the ending credits where the little girl in a dress was flying through the forest while (well, duh) the end credits were rolling and very anime-ish type music was playing.

So no one remembers The Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys? It was good stuff. I would buy a DVD of it.

Sea Monkeys rings a bell, any details?
Was picture pages the one with like the talking pen?
Anyone remember the Back to the Future cartoon? I pretty much starred Doc Brown's kids, Jules and Verne, but Biff still occasionally had a commentary at the end. Chris Lloyd hosted. I still remember the short where Doc invented something that could compact the Delorean into the size of a suitcase, but it still need a crane bigger than the car to be moved around because it was still just a heavy. Not that great of an invention from the father of the flux capacitor.

I remember the Back to the Future cartoon. But that may be due to the fact i'm a BTTF freak! :D
Picture pages was hosted by Bill Cosby, and he had a pen shaped like a bee. I don't remember the pen talking. He did simple activities, with a split screen. An example is he would have 6 numbers on the top, and on the bottom would be different picture, like 4 cars and 2 bananas, and you had to draw lines from the number to the correct pic.

Back to the Future cartoon, I remember that. I remember the theme song to it.
The theme songs to 80's cartoons were so catchy back then. How can you forget any of them?
