I didn't pay much attention to the show when it aired back in 98 but now I'm reading the scripts from it again, and it seems pretty cool. More like the second seasons of Iron Man and the Fantastic four of X-men's Phoenix saga (good stuff BTW.) Anyone agree, if only Marvel would put them on video or DVD.

In 98..It was on Fox and It was freaking great !! It only lasted one season and had about 12 episodes it featured Galctus a lot and was just cool.. it only got canceled because Marvel Animation Studios had went bankrupt (it died along with The spider Man and X-Men Series) It ended in a cliffhanger...

The show had such much freaking potential, it had me going around pretending to be "The Ruby Rider" a parody of Silver Surfer I came up with...

It showed The surfer getting his powers, returning to his home planet, helping others from his planet, turning on galactus, glactus eating planets, the Surfer ahving battles and itw as just cool.... I hate it got canceled. I really do.

I was wondering why that show ended so abruptly. I really enjoyed it.
Do you guys know why the Avengers toon was cancelled,i thought it was good.

Silver Surfer was actually 13 eps if I remember correctly - I have all but one of them on tape. One episode was not advertised and ran on a Friday night and never aired again so I had to d/l it. Personally I was a huge fan of this show and hated the fact that Fox treated it the way they did - very rarely giving it an ad time. If I remember right Canada has a toon station that replays the show quite a bit.

Avengers was supposed to be renewed and then died the same way SS did. Tis a shame - the Marvel toons, for the most part, rocked. Disney now owns the rights to SS tho because Saban was involved with the show (If I remember correctly - could be wrong though) so I wouldn't hold my breath on a DVD release. If they do I'll be picking it up in a heartbeat though.

Hey It wouldn't be a bad idea for somebody to air the show, like once a week...

I mean CN ahsa few toons that didn't get past 10 episodes that still get air time.

I only saw three episodes. The first one. One with Adam Warlock. And one other with Norinn Radd arguing with Galactus about something?

It was almost on par with BTAS. It was that good. This series should be shown on ABC Family along with IRON MAN/FANTASTIC FOUR!!! Or put it on DVD already.

I watched it, but i didn't think it was as good as some of the others. It beat a lot of other shows too, but i prefered my Batman :D . I guess the thing that left the worst impression on my memory was the bad animation. I didn't care for those overly dark and thick outlines.

The cliff hanger episode had Thanos I think and he was trying to free his wife or something... I liked the art style, it gave the show a dark feeling and I figured they were just trying to be different.

I really liked the art style, too. The producers were trying to go for a Jack Kirby look, and came very close.

I loved that show! All the old Marvel shows on FOX Kids were great.

The style was amazing. So kirby it was astonishing - however the subject matter was, well, shall we say had a select following and I'm not surprised it was unsuccessful as a commercial venture..

How was the subject matter that different - other than the fact it didn't take place on Earth (except for one episode). Personally I liked the fact it wasn't the same old thing and that there was something different to be offered by the show. The Kirby art style fit the show incredibly well and the back story of Silver Surfer trying to find Shala-Bal was a good one to make him continue searching. The only thing I think they should have done was to keep SS's first appearance on earth be against the FF - but this couldn't happen because of the syndicated cartoon. If SS is in continuity with the other series I hope there is a way to find a way to make both stories fit, not sure how though.

I loved SS. At least, the episodes I got to see, which were the initial 3-parter and a fight with Thanos. I just never had the chance to see it.

Regarding the Avengers cartoon, I ask those who fondly remember it, are you nuts? The show had horrible animation, the voice acting was very subpar, the stories weren't good at all. The only episode I would be able to sit through again was the Cap one, and that's strictly because of Cap. I was so happy when this went off the air, because it destroyed the reputation of the Avengers.

Overall the Avengers wasn't that bad - Wonder Man came back as a cool character and Ant-Man was pretty cool to. Granted the show would have been 10 times better with Cap, IM and Thor in the team but we did get to see Cap and IM in the series. The Zodiac episodes were pretty good to. I think that if the show actually would have had a second season we would have seen Wonder Man become more powerful, Ant-Man become a better leader and also had some of the other characters become more involved. Now that I think about it there was also the Namor episode that was pretty good and I would have loved to have seen Vision become more developed as a character.

sorry I have to chime in here, The Avengers was not a good show. The writing was mediocre at best, the voice acting was not that good either if I had to here Scarlet witch say her line one more time I'd beat her senseless. The animation was also pretty bad IMO, or maybe I just couldn't get into it.

About the only redeamin quality was Vision.

While I didn't base my life around Avengers I did feel that it was an enjoyable show and some of the episodes were pretty good. The ongoing story with Wonder Man was pretty kewl, IMO. I also felt that the second season would have been a lot better as the team was only just beginning to get an idea about where they wanted to go (altho I could have done without the Power Rangers-esque morphing into their new costumes. Much like Zeta and Static Shock I think a second season would have been a lot better all the way around.
