OK, which of the following people writes the best music for Our Heroes?

Danny Elfman (Batman, Batman Returns)
Shirley Walker (BTAS, Mask of the Phantasm)
John Williams (Superman)
Elliot Goldenthal (Batman Forever, Batman and Robin)

I'd have to say Danny Elfman. I mean, Walker rules, Williams used to (Goldenthal is the lord of all evil, IMHO), but Elfman just stands out. His themes remind us not only of the heroics, but of the human side of these characters...and the fine line that seperates the heros from the villians.

I voted for Shirly Walker. Williams' Superman theme was very close.

Edit: Neil Hefti too. (nana nana nana nana) :)

This might be one of the toughest polls I've come accoss. If you only include the titles you mentioned, well, that throws Goldenthal out, but man look at what's left. Those Superman themes are some of the best ever composed and Elfman's Batman work follows suit. Ultimately, I went with Walker because of all of the fantastic individual character themes she created, plus that Phantasm score. Brilliant work and I only went with it because of the sheer volume of awesomeness she has composed. One of the few cases where both quality and quantity apply, for me.

Goldenthal is a great, Oscar nominated composer, but his Batman work wasn't all that impressive, though I did like his main Batman theme quite a bit. His work on Interview with the Vampire is one of my all time favorite scores, however.

Well, I was trying to limit it to the Batman/Superman scores...I suppose you can vote for anyone who scored the episodes, too...

Did Walker score "A Bullet for Bullock"? That had some of the best music in the series...

...but overall, I have to say Danny takes this.

Danny Elfman's Batman theme defines the Dark Knight. When I hear walker's theme, for some reason I can't picture Batman. But Elfman's theme, I see Batman zooming out of the night sky.

Definitely Elfman..I have both the Batman and Batman Returns scores and I enjoy them emensly.

Shirley Walker game EXTREMELY close though...

I was tied between Shirley and Elfman. Both are exceptional composers, and I love their music. I went for Shirley however, just because I'm more aquainted with her works. Poor reasoning I know, but it was really hard to chose.

Shirley has done work in STAS too

IMHO that was her BEST work

listen to the scores in Apokalips- NOW and Legacy-- very moving

and Little Girl Lost had some good music too

I say Walker. Although i really like Elman's theme, i hear the beginning of MOTP when i think of Batman.

For some reason, when I watch movies, the scores or music doesn't stick to my head unless they're distict and touch me in some way. Superman's themes struck me the most, so I voted for Williams. Not only did he do Superman's themes, but he did scores for Harry Potter, too, which I later learned because the music there struck me.

A little off topic: David Foster is one of the best songwriters and composers out there. :) He wrote many songs and themes, the one i love most is the theme from St. Elmo's Fire. ^_^

While Walker is very good, it was Danny Elfman for me. I've never heard anything by him that I didn't like, and his Batman music(1989) gives me chills. There will never be anyone better in my opinion.

*GASP* Who voted for Goldenthal? I mainly put him up for laughs! The man is crap! He is EVIL, I say! EVIL!!!

By the way, if you've ever seen the back cover of the Oingo Boingo album "Nothing to Fear", Danny Elfman *LOOKS* like the Joker! It's bizarre!

i dont suppose the inspiration for your moniker is the Blackjack character from Impact/Archie Comics?

or maybe from the cartoon, The Magician?

Nope. although an on-line friend told me once that she was watching that show right after waking up, and she heard the name "Blackjack" and she commented "She looks a lot different from how I pictured".

Outside of that, the only Blackjack I know of is the one from the Tezuka manga...but again, not that either.

She's an original character of mine, sort of an every-day superheroine...goes to high school, drives a normal car...but kicks evil's butt at night (sleeps through homeroom...that sort of thing)

But we're off-topic, except for the fact that she, as I do, has a penchant for Boingo music...*g*
