View Full Version : Quick Reminder: Batman Beyond #23

Folks,
Forgive the shameless selfpromotion, but I wanted to remind you about a little change of pace in this month's issue of Batman Beyond (#23). It's my first published work for DC and a story I think fans of the cartoon will enjoy. Particularly if you're fond of the Royal Flush Gang!
Here's how DC described the issue:
"There's a new "King" in town, and he's putting together a new Royal Flush Gang. Is Batman playing with a full deck when he asks "Ten" to help him take down this dangerous and motley crew?"
Arriving on stores July 25th, BATMAN BEYOND #23 is written by yours truly, Paul D. Storrie, with the usual fine interior art by Craig Rousseau, inks by Rob Leigh and a tremendous cover by BATMAN BEYOND cartoon series artist Darwyn Cooke.
Pick up a copy or two, won't ya? And don't hesitate to let me know what you think after you read it. I'll be around!

I think this is great news. We're actually gonna get some good stories finally before the book ends. I can't wait to read it!

I'll defintiely be checking it out. I really wanted to give the BB comic a try, but Bader just killed it for me - I couldn't take it. I'm looking forward to seeing someone else as the writer for a change!

Y'know, I was really hoping at some point to tell the tale of Clayface's return had I been able to write more BATMAN BEYOND. Sadly, never got the chance.
Make sure to let me know your impressions after reading #23, okay?

Doh! I would have loved to have seen that! I've always wondered if he made it into the future, and I would have loved to see a story about it!

Will do, but I gotta warm ya: I can be harsh!Anyone that knows me can attest to that fact. :D

That is true. :)
Damn it, I will be gone for vacation when the issue's released so I won't be able to go pick it up until September or something... still, as a big Royal Flush Gang fan, I do intend to get it.
Hey Paul, what did that other story you had written for BB deal with? It's a shame it won't make it to the final print, I can't believe how lame Bader's last script sounds...

Paul Storrie goes pretty indepth about what his next story would have been, and I think it sounds pretty good. He's goes into detail about it in an interview for Batman: The Animated Newsletter, the next issue premiering in the next week or so. And issue #24 does sound like a horrible way to end the series. "Terry's Mon Dates A SPlicer" has crap written all over it.

I am just curious...how does Hilary Bader get to keep her job? I don't know if I've read reaction for anyone of her stories that have been positive.

She had maybe 3 or 4 good issues, the rest are all crud. The fill-ins, or ones where Rich Fogel helped, were actually real good. The rest was....well...poo.

As just about everyone knows, I'm a writer, hoping to be a professional journalist someday. As for art, well, I was a steady drawer all through high school, and I did plan to have a future in it, before I got Journalism in my head.

Clayface seems a likely candidate to last, don't ya think? He wouldn't be subject to the rigors of the aging process that a normal flesh and blood human would be.

With any luck, you'll find the issue worth the wait!
My second Batman Beyond script featured a mysterious masked woman known as the Sphinx who isn't exactly what she seems. I'd rather not go into it too much more just in case DC ever finds a venue to publish the story.

I agree. Clayface should be around longer. He's almost in the exact situation as Freeze, although reversed a little bit. I may have to bring this up on the JL Board. Anyways, feel free to stick around as long as ya like and plug away, Paul! I think your unpublished BB story could work great as a special. Y'know those team-up one shots that DC occasionally publishes? It's be neat, like the SUPERMAN VS LOBO animated book a few years back. BATMAN BEYOND VS THE SPHINX. I'd love to see DC prin tit. It would partly make up for them abandoning the franchise so quickly.

I too am a writer and an artist. For years I've practised and practised, and now I work as a character designer for a computer games company - and I love my job! I feel very VERY lucky to do what I love for a living... I also write - I have years and years of unpublished prose and comic scripts on innumerable discs and writing pads. Writing really is my first love.
I'm supposed to be making a web-site so I can put some of my drawings and stuff on, but a combination of computer illiteracy and lack of time means it's still a distant dream - but if anybody is interested/curious, drop me a PM with your e-mail address, and I'll forward some scans- I'd love to get some feedback from the folks on this board. Never before have I respected the opinion of a group of people as I do with you guys...
Thanks for listening!

I'm a bit disappointed that The Sphinx story won't be appearing (at least not any time soon), but these things happen. Maybe someday!
Now that the 25th has rolled around, I'm anxious to hear what everyone has to say about number 23!

Yeah, it'd be nice to have a good comic book store to get these things from right away, but the discounts I get thru Wesfield make up for it. I figured one month I save on average of $40-$50 per month over the cover prices with the Westfield prices. And that's pretty substantial.

Thanks so much for the kind words. As a matter of fact, I have a couple of announcements for the board in regard to upcoming stuff --
1) I've completed an issue for the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE ADVENTURES comic that will follow the Cartoon Network series
2) I have a project that you folks will (I think) find VERY interesting in the final approval stages at DC. I'll be sure to pop by the board and make a formal announcement on it when I have the proper okays.
