All right. I know that I've been out of the stream for a while, so how come nobody let me know about this (http://www.latimes.com/features/lifestyle/la-000024720apr07.story)? (Check the end of paragraph 8...)

Last I heard, Stephen had walked away from Spongebob and Nick. Now there are murmurs of a feature film? Considering that SbSp is now Nick's top-rated show, knocking off them 10-year-old diaper-wearing juvies, perhaps money CAN mend broken fences.

I'm still hunting the net for news on this. Anyone have any news of their own?

This is official, because it was also noted in Time(I think) and NY Post. The show is definately coming out of hiatus and reportedly the whole cancellation thing was kind of a hoax(according to other sites). I can't wait for this movie. Notice my name ;) .

Crikey, Pat. I noticed it quite some time ago. I believe that you were one of the few on TZ with a Spongey name.

One Q, though... Why the avatar with Drew-dude? I know that it's easy to run out of avatar ideas (I gave up on DK around Valentine's Day) but that seems a bit of a stretch... :)

I entered in the Comedian contest and I wanted to use this one. The face on him gets me everytime. :D

Fair nuff, Pat. And mea culpa for posting to the wrong board.

Haven't found much on the net on the movie per se, but the general buzz is that season four of SbSp is a go, and that Stephen remains fully involved in the series.

Natch, that is a net concensus, so take it for what it's worth. Still, ya gotta wonder if maybe Nick coughed up a few more $s to keep Stephen aboard.

Nick may be following the old capitalist adage: "Don't make hamburger out of your cash cow," but if it keeps us in Bikini Bottom...

I heard that in terms of celeb voices in the movie, they're looking to get people like Bruce Willis and Rob Lowe involved...one of the members of 'N STINK also, I believe.

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

Spongebob's cancellation wasn't a hoax. Steven Hillenburg left the show.

The "new season" this fall isn't a new season but, like Zim, an airing of the remaining episodes produced under his direction.

If a movie was made, it was probably already done while Hillenburg was there. But noone works on Spongebob anymore. So I don't see how a movie would appear any other way. Unless magical cartoon fairies come in during the night and construct it themselves.

Unless they make Patrick the main character for a Spongebob movie, I'll skip it.

As much as I find Spongbob amusing, A movie would not work, unless the plot involved Mermaid Man & Barnecle Boy. Plain, and Simple.

I love SB, notice my signature.

Just as long as it has Sandy and The Crusy Krab (spelled right? prob. not) in it I will be happy.

I think a movie would work, and would like to see one. This and Zim are Nick's best shows.

First, read this article, which came out yesterday from the LA Times, backing Matt's view of this:
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/printedition/calendar/la-000026264apr13.story

All right. That tears it. I give up. Nick wins. I'm done with them. Never again will I come to their defense or attack. They simply do not exist to me any longer. They can even keep their NickToon Channel. I'm through.

As soon as I've seen those last 20 eps... ;)

You've already been seeing them. That article is referencing something outdated. Steven leaving Nick is a done deal. It happened. Several months ago. Why people are only finding this out now is beyond me.

Nickelodeon could continue to produce new episodes without the show's creator being involved, as happened years ago with the channel's "Ren & Stimpy" series.

But he doesn't think Nickelodeon would. "I think they respect that my contribution is important," Hillenburg said. "I think they would want to maintain the original concept and quality."
I think Stephen is wrong.

I think Steven's wrong too. But as far as I know, Nickelodeon hasn't pulled anything funny yet.

As a fan of the original Ren & Stimpy, I know all too well how awful it is to have a network bleed all the fun and creativity out of a show. Hopefully Steven Hillenburg will be shown more respect than John Kricfalusi was...

speaking as a huge Nick & Spongebob fan, i really dont think Nick should go behind Stephens back and made new episodes without Stephen.. Spongebob just wouldnt be the same

Nick USA does not know how to treat Nicktoons though, Nick UK has aired new episodes of Spongebob, Catdog, Angry Beavers, an episode of Invader Zim, Rocket Power, and a few more Nicktoons before Nick USA actually aired them. so it would not surprise me if Nick USA did actually make new Spongebob episodes without Stephen

That sucks. Every time they get a good nicktoon they stop airing it befroe it gets a long run. Rugrats use to be good but now it's just ok. It seems they are puling a Fox here which really sucks. Too bad spongebob is gone it was on of the beter shows most of what they show is crappy even by kids standars.

Maybe it won't be a full blown movie but just a theatrical short (that appears before another Nicktoon movie) about Plankton having F.U.N. :D with Bikini Bottom.

They've done it before. Ren and Stimpy got crapified by evil Nick when they produced episodes without John Kricfalusi after they fired John K./stoped paying John K./found out John K. quit. (I'm not sure what happened) I like some of the shows that Nick airs, but I would never trust them with my intellectual property. I don't trust Nick. I don't trust em' one bit. They'll do it if they can make money off it. Trust me.

....I won't say anymore on the Spongebob cancellization, since it's already been beaten to death. Well, okay, it sucks, but meh...

....it's a pity, since it was the first non Klasky-Csuspo show in a long time to actually be worthwhile. Nick's only making itself worse and worse in acting like a mini-MTV and showing only K-C. It'll tire itself out and regret it.

I can't get the link to work for me, but I would only pray the movie is: 1) actually there, since I would like SBSP to go out wit a bang, and 2) to let the movie be a GOOD one.

I am not a fan, but I know Spongebob has a lot of fans. If they release a movie already produced, it should do well. There is a chance that creating new episodes that haven't been thought of yet could send the show out poorly, though. If an important person is gone, they should just finish what they already have, to reduce risks.

Spongebob is popular with High Schoolers and Adults alike. It's an OK show I guess but it's not my favorite. The final episode I think is House Party.Right? It airs for the first time may 17th and guest stars Jennifer Love Hewitt!
