Vegeta and The Joker rule. It's kinda funny that I like them both so much, they're practically opposite in personality. Vegeta frowns all the time and Joker smiles all the time. WeIrDnEsS

I guess I'd have to say:
Vegeta
Trieze
Lagato
Knives
The Androids on DBZ
Char
Kagato

Er... that's all I can think of at the time. :)

Char's the man, so are Shishio and all his team. Saito I like ummm...Treize was okay if you like those manipulative people. Vegita was a good bad guy. Kagato from Tenchi Muyo (the original OVA) was cool.

No! Do not mention the N word from FY around me! He is just wrong! (and I don't mean Nuriko)

As for favorite anime villains, here are some that I happened to like:

-The Black Moon Family (SM): They were class, style and a dysfunctional family down to a T!
-Wiseman (SM): Perhaps the coolest and most evil SM villan EVER! He was just so evil he scared me!
-Prof. Tomoe (SM): Interesting tragic villain who perhaps led the best organization in SM: The Death Busters! (personally, it is his humanity combined with his evil that attracts me)
-The Witches 5 (SM): Yes, I know they are a part of the Death Busters, but they deserve a special recognition. OK, mostly Eudial and Viluy deserve it, but Tellu and Cyprine get some too. (you guys can take Mimete, in fact I implore you too!)
-Amazon Trio/Amazoness Quartet (SM): Same mission, same amounts of insanity on both sides! I guess my appeal to them made me hate Nehelenia and Zirconia even more.
-Folken (Escaflowne): Another tragic villain I admire. The corrupted prince of the black wings.
-Androids 17 and 18 (DBZ): The only villany they had was their ambition to have fun. But their idea of fun was chaos to other people!
-Murasaki (DB): Perhaps the funniest villain I have ever come across. Sure he tries, but I guess he was never ment so succeed.
-Sachiel (Evangelion): Couldn't do a poll without something from Eva. And what better villain was their (at least to me) than the 3rd Angel who led to Shinji's first true test? (There is Gendo, but he is another kind of evil)
-God (Lain): Sure he was not necessarily a villain in the typical sense, but considering that he wanted everyone to be under his control and guidance in the Wired, he probably does deserve a place here.
-Kagato (Tenchi Muyo!): You can keep your Universe Kagato, I'll take the original Destroyer of Artifacts anyday! And to think he almost got away with it, too.
-The Saber Dolls (SMJ): Who says that Japoness gets the good looking Sabers? Gartlant gets the very loyal Tiger, Panther and, a personal favorite, Luchs! (who, coincidentally, is the subject of Otaru's first kiss!)
-Tuberov (GW): If there was anyone whom I wished to die a slow painful death in this series, it was him. He was the one who pretty much invented and implimented the Mobile Dolls and led to a lot of the chaos during the war. While I don't like him, I did like the scene where he finally dies, just as White Fang is born and Wufei is attacking his satellite.
-The Zabi family (MS Gundam): I am not too sure about Ghiren, since I did not see the last several episodes, but I did like what I saw with the other members of the family: especially Char's "partner" Garma and the mysterious Kycillia. (BTW: I more consider Char an anti-hero, thus I don't mention him here)
-Ramba Ral (MS Gundam): Perhaps one of the best characters on the Zabi side (well, there is Lalah and Char, but they are another story altogether), he was a great nemisis in the desert chase of White Base. And the Gouf: best MS I have ever seen.
-Amiboshi, Suboshi, Soi, A****are (FY): Sure they are evil, but I am able to sympathize with these characters more than I can with the one leading the Seiryu side: Dumb-Dumb Idiot Stupid Jerkface. Besides, Amiboshi was once the fake Chiriko, Suboshi has some feelings for Yui, A****are is a poor beast man afflicted by the troubles he could get through, and Soi is, well, Soi. (a nice way to put it considering what she can do. BTW: I don't know Miboshi that well to add him, and Tomo can join Dumb-Dumb with those I have no sympathy for)

If I listed any more villians, I would never stop. So lets leave it here.

BTW: Why I listed Tuberov on this list is primarily because he was the first villain I completely and totally hated from start to finish in any anime.

Saito Hajime (Kenshin)
Seta Soujiro (Kenshin)
Knives (Trigun)
Shishio Makoto (Kenshin)
Char (Mobile Suit Gundam)
Battousai (Kenshin)
Folken (Escaflowne)
Lagato (Trigun)
Shinomori Aoshi (Kenshin)
The other members of the Juppongatana (Kenshin)

That's about it, but I might of forgot one or two people.

I don't know if I'd really call Kenshin as the Battouasi a villan I mean.

Spoilers...

It's not like he didn't have a good reason for going to Kyoto to be an assasin or more relevantly, for attempting to kill Jinei.

I don't know if I'd really call Kenshin as the Battouasi a villan I mean.

Maybe not, but his attitude as the Battousai was pretty much like a villan. Like when he was fighting Saito, even though he had a good reason for it.

Nakago
Kagato
Dilandau
Seta Soujiro
Saito Hajime
Shishio Makoto
Most of the other Kenshin villains, the list goes on....

Those are my fav ultimate baddies. But, there are some who I don't really consider truly evil bad guy. They weren't on the "good side", but they were evil or really really bad, at least in my book.

Trieze
Zechs
Folken
Shinomori Aoshi (eh, he's kinda either. He just too cute to be totally evil though!)

How could I forget Ashram? And, of course, Pirotess.
Gendou Ikari definitely belongs in there somewhere.
And I'll chuck in Valgaav and Xellos from "Slayers" for the heck of it.

RE: Stranger Ataru

Err. . . what exactly was so unspeakable about Nakago? Aside from his rather, uh, *interesting* fixation on Tamahome? I was a little more upset with that evil floating midget-thing.

The girls of Neoranga (*Drool*) are the best looking villians, but the coolest would definately be that wacko from Geki Gangar in the Nadesico sub-plot. That dude was awesome!

And a cool voice! Never saw the dub, but for those of you who have... you can still hear him (subbed) on Iron Chef. He's also got a song on the Revelation Lugia cd where he's going on and on about how he's damned.

Vicious from Pokemon 4's a turning point in the Rocket organization. He's one sicko with odd clothes and the first person I've seen using organic Mecha... And the new Rocket members following him are even more dangerous.

On the silly side.... The usual TR trio.... The Rocket twins are cute (um, hello? same hair...) And the Rocket predecessors: Mmmmmai, Shuu and Pilaf from Dragonball.

I'll echo most of these choices and add Queen Nihelena...because she was psychologically complex in that she desired power, but when she couldn't have it was content to cling on to nothingness, an emply and meaningless existence inside her mirror-world, if only to preserve her beauty. And really, aren't we all at times like that, willing to hold onto a dead past for fear of having nothing at all if we surrender it?
Nephlyte, also, is an interesting foe--one who reformed at the very last, and gave his life for the sake of love. Something about self-sacrifice, in either a hero or a villain, gets to me.
Ken from Digimon as well. He was a monster, and then completely reformed..but there was always a hint that he could return to his old debaucheries simple as that....
And who could forget Mad Pierrot of Cowboy Bebop. "He enters smiling...and he leaves smiling." A creature bred to kill, with a perpetually-regressing brain. And g.d. if that laugh of his didn't creep me out....

Bad guy!? I have to choose between them all!?

Oooooookay.......... here's my fav bad guys

Knives (my absolute favorite!)
Vicious (soooo evil)
Kagato (both versions)
just about any SM bad guy who stayed evil throughout the whole thing and Legato :p

Semi bad guys have to be.....

Vegeta (only because he's not totally evil anymore)
Trieze (he's really not good or bad.... but he's still great)
Lots of the SM bad guys (the ones who turn good)

That's about it! :D

OK, I forgot to list Vicious last time, but only because I saw everyone else doing it. But yes, he was a great one: not only that, but he killed with class. Besides, I don't really consider him a "villain", just another tragic character in the CB universe who chose one path while Spike chose another. That was why I somewhat reluctantly refused to list him before.

Another one that has come to me were the McDoogals in Outlaw Star. While I did not like Harry as much as I liked Ron, they were pretty much as "anti-hero" as you could get in that series. But what do you expect: they are bounty hunters. (note how I seem to like "anti-heros" more than real villains)

i agree. not all bad guys have to go on killing sprees, or be pure evil. I have mixed feelings toward Gendo. For one thing, he seems to have no respect for anyone else, especially his son. On the other hand:Gendo didnt exactly have an easy life. He was always an outsider, getting into fights all the time, etc. Then he went through a major apacolyptic event (2nd Impact), where he witnessed the death of majority of his fellow man. Then, the one person who kept him from going psycho (his wife) dies. what person wouldnt have lost it? Its hard to have any compassion for others when you dont have anything left to live for. He may not be the embodyment of evil, but he is more realistic of a bad guy than most ive seen. That is what I like about him.

I think for sheer *EVIL*, Sailor Galaxia tops my list for BADDEST (I know, I know, not a word) anime villainess ever. Sure, the reason she's so bad is lame, but her actions are truly BAD to the bone. :D

Charismatic anime villain ever goes to Char Aznable. Hey, he was the first anime villain EVER to gather a cult following, so why argue with a pioneer?

Xelloss (Slayers Next/ Try)
Rosiel (Angel Sanctuary)
Lucifer (Angel Sanctuary, just to spite Char-oneesan, since she despises him so much)
Homura (Gensomaden Saiyuki)
Kougaji (Gensomaden Saiyuki)
Schwartz (Weiss Kreuz, and I mean all four of them)
Count D (Petshop of Horrors, he's kind of a villain and kinda not, since he does warn his customers not to break their contracts or else...^^;;; )

Wow... am I the only one who DIDN'T like Vicious? He always seemed like a lame Sephiroth ripoff to me. Oh, look at me, I've got white hair, I wear a black trenchcoat, I use a Katana, and I frown a lot... I MUST be badass! I guess I'm the only one who feels this way. And even having a character use a Katana as a main weapon in 2071 seems kinda stupid to me... stylish, yeah, but extremely unrealistic and impractical, in a glaring way.

Anyway, I definitely like Char Aznable. Definitely a groundbreaking, charismatic villian. However, my absolute favorite would be Tetsuo, from the Akira movie and manga . He's sinister, imposing, chilling, psychotic, and utterly unstoppable. His eyes have such madness in them, for nearly the whole movie, that I find him seriously creepy.

I don't like Vicious. He's as generic as they come--at least Sephiroth was insane. Vicious is just your generic bad guy who does bad things because he's...BAD! But the thing is, he doesn't do enough heinous things to make him despicably bad, so you can't really hate him or admire his villainy, either.

All looks, no substance. That's Vicious.

Some of them aren't 'bad' in the traditional sense of the word, but I think you'll see why I'd pick these characters:

Vegeta (Dragonball Z)
Frieza (Dragonball Z)
Majin Buu (Dragonball Z)
Kagato (Tenchi Muyo)
Kain (Tenchi Muyo! In Love)
Team Rocket (Pokemon)
Kuno (Ranma 1/2)
Ken (Digimon)
Tetsuo (Akira)

Knew I was forgetting someone from Ranma. Kodachi is up on that list for sure. And, to me, Kuno's like Team Rocket: Not a serious threat most of the time, but fun to watch them try in vain again and again. He's actually my second favorite character on the show, after Ryoga, of course. :D
