Just how old was Milt Franklyn when he died? I know he went in 1962, but was that because he was old? Or was it something else?

I often have wondered the same thing. I'm assuming that it wasn't old age that killed him (I have heard he died of a heart attack) because he was Stalling's successor after Stalling decided he was old enough to retire so he *must* have been younger than Carl but he didn't die until 10 years later in 1972.
Speaking of which, if I am right and Stalling was older than Franklyn, then that makes *two* successors Stalling outlived because Bill Lava (Franklyn's successor) died in 1971, a year before Stalling, despite the fact that he was much younger (born in 1911). Very curious, indeed....

A good question for someone in the Southern California area to answer, since I would assume Franklyn's obituary ran in the Los Angeles Times in 1962. If the paper has a microfilm topic index list along with the films themselves at one of the L.A. County library branches, it should be in there somewhere, either as a regular obituary notice, or possible as a few paragraph blurb the paper gives to the deaths of people who are semi-notable figures (which a cartoon music scorer would have been for the Times in 1962).

ASCAP lists him as "M.J. Franklyn," and a search of California death records on rootsweb lists one for a Milton J. Franklyn DOD 04/24/1962, DOB 09/16/1897. If that's him, he was 64.

I should add that the place of death was Los Angeles, zeroing it in even closer to that being him. Haven't located an online obit yet, though.
