What's with all the Robin Hood stuff on Cartoon Network lately? There was a Toonheads devoted to him, this, and even Time Squad has a short about England's greatest rogue slated. I'd think it was the man's birthday if he wasn't a fictitious/legendary character.

"Robin Hoodwinked" (Tom & Jerry, MGM)
Favorite scene here is after Nibbles/Tuffy gets stuck in Tom's throat going after the key to Robin's cell, and Tom swigs some ale to wash him down. The little mouse gets totally 'faced--and ends up smashing out Tom's teeth. This is one of few in which he speaks (here, with a cockney accent).

"Robin Hood-Winked" (Popeye, Paramount)
The archery contest is probably the high point of the short...although Popeye looks out of place somehow in a forest (he's a sailor, after all). IMHO the root beer gag was lame and slightly vile-sounding....Popeye's dwarf friend looked familar....

"Robinhood Makes Good" (WB)
If you look carefully, the title of the book is misspelled at one point as "Robid Hood" right after the fox consults the text and replaces it. Love the way the little squirrel fakes out the fox."Who's gonna be Robin Hood?"

"Rabbit Hood" (WB)
Of course my favorite scene is the "king" knighting the Sherriff. Plus I never fail to laugh at the house-building scene and how obviously show-witted the guy is. Little John's voice reminded me of Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man...yeah, definitely Rain Man. Yeah. I'm told he was modeled after the young Chuck Jones.

"Robin Hood Daffy" (WB)
Was the song Porky (Friar Tuck) sang an authentic old English folk tune or just something the writers came up with? "Never mind. I'll join you. Say hello to Friar Duck." I'll be honest--I can't tell a parry from a dodge.

"The Scarlet Pumpernickel" (WB)
Fav line: "Funny...that never happened to Errol Flynn". Cameos from a lot of WB stars; they tried to do this with mixed results some years later in "Carrotblanca". The greatest scene is the confrontation with Daffy and Sylvester; it must have taken a lot of effort on Blanc's part to make the two lisps sound different. At least the ending edit was a lot cleaner than others I've seen before in SP.

OK Class -

Everyone look up the (ancient, pre-christian) legend of Barbara Allen, and report back!
