View Full Version : Just saw Mask Of The Phantasm
I finally saw the movie, you guys were right, it was awsome. I have one question though, was it ever shown on TV? It seemed a little mature for little kids.

Cartoon Networks's Cartoon Theater aired it before.

Yep, CN has had it own, more than once right? Could of sworn I've seen it at least twice on tv, could be wrong though. And yeah, I guess for the younger kids it is really dark, but oh well! If they can't take that then they aren't ready for that kind of Batman yet, although I think most younger kids are good with that movie. Depends how young you're thinking, because I think 7 year olds would be okay.

This movie was a theatrical relese, though. It was simultaneously on video. I guess that's the only theatrical animated Batman movie, isn't it? What a shame.

I know that SUB-ZERO was shown in some theatres - not as a wide-release, just as a test-run sorta thing. It's not the same as with the theatrical MASK OF THE PHANTASM movie release, but hey, any chance to see Batman in all his animated glory on the big screen is a good thing.

Oddly enough, I watched this movie again on Saturday night....and I must admit I always found it a little boring.
( :o ducks for cover! :o )
I don't need fight sequences to keep my attention....I just guess the whole notion of Bruce becoming Batman when a woman wouldn't marry him just didn't feel completely right. I see it as a sort of "what-if" beginning. Andrea is a character I've never fully accepted. The movie sort of exists on a level all to itself. The inclusion of the Joker, however was what saved it from being completely overlooked.

It's my favorite movie of any kind - animated or nonanimated.

i kinda thought of that too, about Bruce bein Batman cuz Andrea left him... but it wuz kinda kool to see wut would really force Bruce to break the promise he made to his parents (other than old age). It goes to show that whatever Bruce does, he can't really find peace or happiness. Sadly, andrea may have been his last chance to be happy, but just like it did to his parents, death and chance split the two apart. It really is sad.
MOTP also showed how much he wuz hurt by his promise. In fact, it wuz my fave scene from the movie. The part where Bruce stands in front of his parents' graves, begging for them to kinda forgive him, and let him be happy (something he never thought would happen after THAT night). that wuz a classic moment. Although it's not referred to in every episode (or movie), it wuz through this scene that we see how much Bruce is obsessed w/ his crusade, and how reluctant he is to let it go. He may have been willing to give it up for Andrea, but it strung him up so badly that he literally had to go to his parents' graves and beg them for permission. THAT'S drama 4 u...
finally, the last thing i'll mention.... Alfred said something in the movie. It could have been easily over-looked, but that's just my opinion. Right after Andrea leaves Wayne Manor (presently) and before Bruce discovers the Joker's involvement with the whole thing, Alfred tells Bruce, in response to his possibility of giving up, "I'm sure they would've wanted you to be happy, sir." I know I'm gonna sound like a big geek, but I think this should have been something Bruce should have thought about a long time ago. Martha & Thomas are his parents, and judging from many references, they were good parents. I think they would have wanted Bruce to be happy, and not curse himself into the black, black hole he's in now. Although it's kind of an obvious notion, I don't think Bruce ever thought of that for a second. I guess that's how much he wanted this...
o well, i'm ramblin  .. k bye...

Batman is the best, especially the movies. Too bad there are none with Nightwing
